I know why you live there. Just finished nearly a week near Rosario. It was mesmerizing and we were content staring out into Cascade Bay and East Sound for hours on end. My body returned to Ohio today but I believe part of my soul connected with and stayed on Orcas Island. I am envious of your home and congratulate you on making your dream come true with smart decisions and honest work. Anyone and everyone can have it with the right mindset. God Bless 🇺🇸
@@jimmckinnon7148 Hey Jim, nice to hear from you !, And a Very Happy New year to you and yours. When you see any of the Doty family please send them my regards hope they are all well and thriving....Mahalo and Aloha to you,,,,Thomas
Me and my wife went there for our honeymoon in December 2017. We loved it so much!!! Can't wait to go back! We loved the delicious cod at madrona in eastsound
Wow! Grew up in Vermont. Now live in Vero Bch. Florida. I thought I'd lived in some beautiful country. Boy was I wrong! Your Island is wonderful! Thanks for sharing!
I really enjoyed your video. You have a wonderful life there. Question though, if one is not retired, what working people do for a living on the island. Cheers
We stayed for a week on Orcas Island a few years ago - and to this day - with all of our other travels - we cannot forget the amazing memory of that trip and our visit with the islanders. Please always be as kind and welcoming to those of us who are not as fortunate (yet) to live there ~ But who appreciate the beauty, serenity, and the magical adventure that is Orcas Island. Dreaming of our return in retirement . . . soon . . . Thank you for sharing this video with us!
Thank you for uploading such a great video. I have always wanted to visit Orcas Island and now I most definitey will. Glad to see that you are enjoying life...Thats what its all about! All the best!
My god this has been my dream since I was 7.. I use to spend summer weeks on Orcas island as a child. I had to leave the state 7 years ago to make a name for myself as a painter and artist in a cheaper area, now that I make over 60 grand a year as an artist the cost of living has raised so much I can't move back. My entire family still lives out there including parents. Some day I hope i get my art income up above hundred grand a year and maybe then i can afford to get a cabin on Orcas.
@@javonniebuck783 Not unless you make over 100k a year. The land alone out there is about a quarter million for a lot, I could afford the payments on the land but a house on land out there is between 500k and a million. Thats not affordable for an average middle class income.

Was looking at San Juan for a while, but just started looking into Orcas. Seems less crowded, and a tad less expensive for homes. Thanks for the video!
Hello, thanks for sharing your beloved memories and life on Orcas Island. We just arrived today for a night 9/27/2020 to get a flavor of the island and OMG what Beauty. Thanks for sharing your experience, it definitely is a piece of paradise! 😍
I surely hope all your friends are multi-millionairs so that they can afford a house half as nice as your! It it such a sad sad place to live today....
I am definitely not a millionaire. I drive 15-20 year old cars and 20 year old jeans and lots of T shirts. I save and spend what money I have earned over the years on what is important to me. Grew up in south central LA. You can do it too!!! Not easy but never give up until you get there.
Very nice video. My own dream is to live one day on Fidalgo Island, however, even that may be too populated for my liking. How is affordability for the common man? I'm a retired USAF Senior NCO and will soon retire fully in about 2-4 years. Are there any homes that would be within reach for someone with an annual family income of $75K? I desire to get away from the riff raff in Portland and get to a place like this of extreme beauty. I think my wife and I are thrilled doing the outdoorsy things and she's an artist and I'm a bit of a musician and this sounds like it could be an incredible place to land. But the affordability is the biggest question I have. Thank you for any answers you might be able to provide.
Sorry so long to respond. No idea people other than family would be interested. Old dude not aware of social media impact. There are several real estate agencies here and if you are not right on the water you can find some good deals. Especially if you have some skills. Mine was a “ fixer” upper. Also USAF 4 years. Almost a lifer !!
Big trick. Work hard, don’t do stupid things and spend your money on what’s important to you. Drive old cars and wear a lot of t shirts. You can do it .... I did from south central LA. I KNOW POOR!!! Make good choices and work for it!! Good luck.
Basically no. Born south central LA. Worked two three jobs mist of my life. Drive old cars, ware old clothes and rarely took vacations. So now I’m enjoying all those years of working hard and saving. You can do it too. Not easy and you do sacrifice a lot …… but you have a choice how and where you spend your money just like you have a choice on everything else but it is simply …… up to you. Orcas Island is so peaceful and beautiful. I think it would be a good Idea to make some kind of resort for veterans who suffer from PTSD.

The only good use for the mainland is to get between islands!
Nice video. When he said the first thing to do on the island was watching float planes come in and leave, I thought, this guy is a pilot. :)
Amazing :)

I've always wanted to live up there- been visiting the San Juans for 15+ years- but it's out of of my tax bracket anymore.

So very beautiful, it looks like Sweden, I ask myself about the temperature during the year and if it's possible to swim safely
survival time in the water is less than 20 minutes....
