When I marched mellophone I used an adapter for a French horn mouthpiece. I feel like it gives a better tone and lessens the change between horn and mello.

Are you familiar with our Verus M1T mouthpiece? It is a horn mouthpiece with a trumpet shank, so there's no adapter required: houghtonhorns.com/shop/verus-marching-mouthpieces/

@Homero Aguilar-Vega the M1T mouthpiece would be highly recommended so that you retain the same rim and cup feel as on your horn mouthpiece. We are now offering free shipping and free returns on all mouthpieces: houghtonhorns.com/shop/verus-marching-mouthpieces/

When I marched Mello for the first time my junior year of high school it was not that different from the horn or trumpet. I've played trumpet all the years before that and the transition was very easy for me. Also why not just march with the french horn? Marching sideways is very much possible. It's been done in my high school for decades and it yields great results.

it's a bit more practical to play a Mello vs a French horn

Their is not much of a difference it's just that mello is more comfortable and recommended during marching and prep

Probably because the Mello faces forwards unlike the French horn

Even if you marched sideways, your bell would be facing towards the ground and you wouldn’t be able to see your drum majors, but I see military & government affiliated marching bands use French Horns so idk

@@Rachel-zf4cr well marching tempos are well known. 160, 168, 80, 86, 180, 132, etc. And plus you can listen to the band while marching. Also, there's a proper way of holding the French Horn.

It's a lot less stressful if the school purchases Bb Marching Horns instead of Mellophones.
