I know that's right. When I met my boyfriend 1 1/2 ago, his locs were past his shoulders and had a scent to them. You know that scent. Asked who's been doing his hair before, and it was just himself and his sister sometimes. He had never had a deep cleanse. After the first month, I was like I don't know who you were dating before me, but I don't roll like that and I take care of mine. I did a deep deep cleanse. Besides the baking soda and vinegar and shampoo, I had to use Dawn dish detergent to get thru. There was so much film floating in the water. Anyway, his hair stays clean and fresh to this day.
I'm the same way, I done had to take ex's to get mani & pedi's because ugly feet is tolerated over here, but rough and dirty feet and hands is not especially it's time to get in bed and I like to rub my feet on my partner to fall asleep. I couldn't imagine living around this man here, possibly sharing pillows. My skin would break out.
I hope he keeps up with it hisself now. I tried to be nice but then i had to retwist too and it didn’t even come out right. Told him he needs to continue his journey alone 😂

Back in his day it just wasnt a thing they did. Because when they were looked down on Upon coming to the USA, they just cut their hair. Because they couldn't get jobs. We found a way to rep our culture but always make it look more neat and clean.
I definitely pay for the service! I don’t have the energy, time and, product to attend to my locs properly. it’s a much needed budget line item for me.

You're putting in a 40hr work week on your cousin! I unfortunately have gone to "beauticians" that didn't wash all the shampoo/conditioner/relaxer/residue, etc out of my hair and I didn't know until I would get buildup or itchy extra dry scalp days later. I have very thick hair and some just don't want to deal with it and take shortcuts but still want to charge a high price when they know their work value isn't even worth it. Smh. That 26 minute mark, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SAYING THAT!!! Why are these dudes rocking locks if they're not going to make it a point to maintain it properly. Hair dirty cause they haven't washed it in how long and in dire need of a re-twist (unless you're doing free form which is understandable). I don't understand how some of these men are going months/over a year without washing their own hair, properly (unless you're experiencing depression, etc.). That is crazy to me. If I cannot do maintenance myself nor pay someone else to do it regularly for me, I'm not doing it. This is why I rocked my short fade as woman until I grew my hair out to get sisterlocks. I made sure I was in a place where I could invest my time, effort and money fully. My hubby would look at me crazy and give me some hard talking to if I didn't maintain the upkeep of my natural hair.
This made my day. I started locs around 6 months ago and your channel is the only one I listen to fully. These others have some interesting advice for sure. I did my loose natural hair for 6 years but for these locs I go sit in my loctician’s hair as often as I can afford to go
If a person is going to take the time to grow their locs, at the least, take time to maintain & clean them. Get a detox a few times a year, wash & condition then, get steam treatments. Have you ever stood behind someone in line whose hair isn't clean? It smells awful! Wash your damn hair! OR... pay what the stylist is asking for to do it for you! This is hard work! Kudos to this stylist, great job! Sir... you should've used some Prell or some blue Dawn dish detergent!

I think of you as lamenting, not complaining. Complaining to me implies helplessness and saying things for their own sake. Lamenting, to me at least, is when someone is thinking through problems to try to find a solution. I can't recall any situation where you criticised this community without a constructive angle.

Literally spoke to one the other day who said she recommended a relaxer to a client who is struggling with her natural hair. No improvement on technique or products. I’ve been seeing people on TH-cam using apple cider vinegar along with the shampooing. 👀it up it may help for the next client. It got the dirt out and the people hair was really clean.
@@calvingaston7934 i don't recommend that. Acv is very acidic and harsh for the hair. You could potentially eat thru the hair and damage the hair's cuticles if it's not properly diluted. Even using baking soda and white vinegar is harsh but neutralizes the pH

I get what you are saying with sometimes needing a stronger shampoo. I love the Paul Mitchell Clarifying shampoo 2 that will have your hair squeaky clean.
So interesting what AHG said about not allowing moisture to sit on the scalp, as it can cause inflammation. Something like that happens to me. My scalp itchs alot when I sweat or if I leave my scalp wet after washing it.

So true about free form locs. Over time you see the hair clump together in a lump and the breakage starts.

I always think starting a new and fresh set is more ideal than reattaching old locks.

I’ve been seeing people on TH-cam using apple cider vinegar along with the shampooing. 👀it up it may help for the next client. It got the dirt out and the people hair was really clean.
@@calvingaston7934 i don't recommend that. Acv is very acidic and harsh for the hair. You could potentially eat thru the hair and damage the hair's cuticles if it's not properly diluted. Even using baking soda and white vinegar is harsh but neutralizes the pH

So interesting what AHG said about not allowing moisture to sit on the scalp, as it can cause inflammation. Something like that happens to me. My scalp itchs alot when I sweat or if I leave my scalp wet after washing it.
