    Hi! I have a macbook pro mid 2012, i use it only for safari. for weeks it works fine until it freezes and won't unblock even waiting for days. same when i have to turn it on, for weeks i turn it on and off, until a day i turn it on and it gets forever stuck on the loading bar. i do the SOS on the hard disk, and mostly of the times it has no errors. all i can do is restore factory it and reinstall the OS. can you please tell me where is the problem? is it just the RAM problem? so i buy a new RAM and everything should be fine?

  • @RichSad45
    @RichSad45 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Stumbled on this channel. And it was like describing every recent MacBook Pro disaster I've had over the last 5 years! I felt your pain and bravery. The two disk partitions separate code from data. Sometimes repairing just the os works. Other situations you have to nuke it to its birthday suit and rebuild it completely. Most of the time the complete refurbishing will yield a working system (until it happens again on some other edge). I typically keep a cloud, local time machine, and a carbon copy clone before I tear down. With that redundancy you can find an easy path to restore to last good state (or you hope it was a good state). A lot of time if I debug deeply I find something plugged into the Thunderbolt ports is failing and bringing everyone down. Good video

  • @evancrazyerror
    @evancrazyerror 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    If this issue re-appears, it’s most likely a symptom of when you installed Big Sur back in July. Big Sur (for some completely random reason) rewrites stuff the BIOS when upgrading to it for the first time. This has caused many black screen issues on Retina MBPs and even sleep issues on newer MBPs. I’m assuming this issue started after you upgraded to Big Sur. I would advice caution before upgrading to it, you might want to wait a little longer than you usually would.

    I was having this issue in a 16 inch MacBook pro with 1TB SSD and 16GB of ram. I had multiple genius bar appointments where they wiped the computer and said they couldn't recreate the issue. It kept happening at home and finally, on the third appointment it happened in front of the tech/genius bar rep at the apple store and that's when they said we can do 1 of 2 things. Since I had AppleCare on the MBP at the time and they made me go through 3 separate appointments for this one issue the Genius Bar manager/supervisor/lead gave me 2 options. Option 1 was to do an exception return and return it for my full money back, $2800 plus the tax(they didn't let me return the AppleCare), and option 2 was to swap it for a brand new 16-inch MBP. I took my money back and I'm so glad I did. I just used $1750 of it to purchase a MBA with the M1 chip with 8 core GPU, 16GB of ram, and a 1 TB SSD and Apple care.

    It's the hard drive... probably you changed it for a NVME with the special interface. Just disable deep sleep (I think it called), and you will be fine, however when the computer is suspended will drain battery faster. Another approach is to replace the hard drive with one of the expensive that apple use (OWC sells those). The problem resides in the lack of support for NVME drives in the EFI, more modern macs don't have this problem, just the old ones. My MBAir 2014 13" have the same issue. I just turn off the deepsleep.

      I do fear it is the SSD.... I've had several people say the same thing. I have some more tests in mind! Even though the Mac worked in the episode (after the reformat and reinstall) 2 days later… the issue came back. So a follow-up episode is in order!

    The first thing that came to my mind, since it said EFI problem and you tested Big Sur, was that it was upgraded to a buggy EFI by the Big Sur beta

    Might be an overheat issue, since you were saying it was getting hot and the fan was a blowin....

    I have a MacBook that would overheat when it was sleeping, and also had a microphone that did not work. I upgraded to Big Sur, and every single one of those issues is now gone completely. Maybe the resign actually did something more useful than making your mac look like a glorified iPad?

    My old MacBook Pro - same age as yours - has been doing this for well over a year. Big Sur seems to have made it worse

    I have an 15 inch MacBook pro retina from mid 2012 and when the charger is not plugged in and it’s asking for power it turns off and this happened when the battery is at 70/60% maybe is the battery but sometimes it does happens no matter what and it’s not overheating...

    I had this same issue with my early 2020 MacBook Pro 16" before I took it back. it would randomly/occasionally reboot and come back with that error. I now have the MacBook Pro 13" M1 and it has no such issues.... so I'm not sure tbh

    Meanwhile my Mac just can’t even deep sleep anymore, crashes almost instantly when deep sleeping on low power- and Catalina being Catalina; it’s been persistent since the betas

    Can’t see anyone saying about the EFI issue. When you installed another OS it must have corrupted the EFI partition of the drive. Wiping the drive and Reinstalling is the best thing unless you have a backup for the EFI. You can use clover 🍀 to mount the EFI partition (I did this to install open core on my Mac Pro 2010) you could have fixed it easily from there. But again you wouldn’t have had a backup of the EFI drive
    This is the issue

    'Failed to umnount currently in use' Ah yes, i had someone call me with this problem because they wanted to format their USB, they were actually trying to format the UEFI/recovery partition. When you get this message, and you're already in recovery, it probably means that is where recovery lives, not sure, rarely work on Macs, maybe there is a seperate eMMC on the motherboard where the OS/UEFI tools reside
