Hey Orlaigh! Appreciate the thorough review here and some of the cons you pointed out are definitely things we will consider moving forward; I did want to point out really quickly that the external kangaroo pocket does have drainage if water enters it, but it's not easy to see, as it is a perforated section hidden underneath the flap of the stow pocket on the bottom of the bag!
I rarely comment, but this one was actually a review that helped me decide versus the other promo, fanboy, or just descriptive videos out there :O Thanks!
20:41 Hey Orlaigh! I just wanted to introduce myself as a photographer who loves to travel overseas for photo trips. I'm really curious about the size of this Peak Design Camera Cube and whether it's the older or the latest version. Also, I'm wondering if the Peak Design Outdoor Backpack 45L has a side opening that matches the side opening of the Camera Cube, allowing for quick camera access without having to open the whole bag. Thanks!
@@gearbyorlaigh It seems like this bag is more suited for a casual traveller who enjoys taking pictures rather than for a photographer who loves to travel. Just imagine having to place the bag on the ground or dirt to open it and access the camera while out in the field. It would be even worse if the bag was white, as it would easily get dirty. I don't think this bag is the best choice for photographers.
Thanks for the thorough rundown of the backpack! How does this compare to the PD Travel Backpack 45L? Anything one should be aware of when choosing the outdoor backpack than the travel backpack and vice versa?
@@Raisbowl Hey thanks for the support :) Mmm yeah a lot of difference for different needs- I’ve not tested the 45L only the smaller one but similar idea The outdoor backpack is easier to clean, it’s not a hair and dust magnet where as the travel backpack is- the travel backpack offers quick side access to the camera gear if you decide to use the camera cubes etc, whereas the outdoor does not I feel the travel backpack is more “thoughtful” with anti theft features The outdoor backpack you can feed a hydration pack through, don’t believe you can with the travel backpack I prefer the accessibility and pockets on the 45L travel backpack, as the kangaroo pouch on the outdoor backpack doesn’t feel as safe and secure Sternum strap is better on the 45L travel backpack but there is more thoughtfulness put into the outdoor backpack in regards to fit and adapting that for your own needs, with the load lifters and the flatness of the bottom part of the strap Outdoor backpack feels a lot more able to be thrown about with and be “outdoors” it doesn’t feel as camera driven as the 45L travel backpack especially due to the travel backpack having those quick access points to camera gear The 45L travel backpack, can endure the outdoors but less of a hiking backpack ( for me personally) but more of a travel, edc for camera gear and A great on bag travel - it also has more thoughtful features for delegates with soft lined pockets End day, depends on what you need and want from a backpack, they both offer great durability, support and fun features! Hope this is helpful :)
@@gearbyorlaigh Wow - thank you so much for the thorough and helpful answer - it is greatly appreciated! Initially, I was hoping that I could just choose one to do both travelling/hiking but I guess I will have to decide which pros from each is of higher value to me. Cheers!
@@standardize heya, I don’t have the small camera cube, only the Smedium which doesn’t fit well with the large camera cube, only one pairs well with that I have is the xs camera cube
Cool video! Do you think the laptop case would be protective enough to carry a laptop on a regular basis? Also do you think it could work as a commuter backpack to take into the office? I know it's on the bigger side but I'm looking for one bag I can use for multiple things.
@@FizzFizzFizzFizzFizz yes! The laptop is well protected! I hear you in terms of getting a backpack that can do multiple things, it’s great with this one that you can stow away the hip belt or remove- makes it feel less “action mode” and can create an edc (large yes) but still doable for that - I’d say look at their 45L travel backpack also as that’s a great shout!

Hey! This is their latest version and no they haven’t made a quick access comparment on the side of this backpack for that which is a shame!

I’m just glad this has padding compared to their magnetic system. Once you go rolltop you don’t roll back so I’m glad to see that as well
Love the reviews!

I feel the travel backpack is more “thoughtful” with anti theft features
The outdoor backpack you can feed a hydration pack through, don’t believe you can with the travel backpack
I prefer the accessibility and pockets on the 45L travel backpack, as the kangaroo pouch on the outdoor backpack doesn’t feel as safe and secure
Sternum strap is better on the 45L travel backpack but there is more thoughtfulness put into the outdoor backpack in regards to fit and adapting that for your own needs, with the load lifters and the flatness of the bottom part of the strap
Outdoor backpack feels a lot more able to be thrown about with and be “outdoors” it doesn’t feel as camera driven as the 45L travel backpack especially due to the travel backpack having those quick access points to camera gear
The 45L travel backpack, can endure the outdoors but less of a hiking backpack ( for me personally) but more of a travel, edc for camera gear and A great on bag travel - it also has more thoughtful features for delegates with soft lined pockets
