Jwool my wife is very mentally ill. For six years her mental illness deteriorated until may this year when she collapsed one morning in the bathroom. I didn't panic. Before this she was very happily talking to someone. She asked to go to the hospital. Then after normal hospital she was sectioned and put in a psychiatric hospital. She was diagnosed with psychotic dillusions. She spent only 9 weeks in hospital. On 3rd of July she came home and is on a medication called Resperidone which does the same as yours. It is an antipsychotic, changes mood and increases hunger. So you will never be alone. Hopefully you're medication will bring results and will put you in a better place. Hang in there ❤

You are strong and you are brave. Aside from helping yourself you are helping others. I suffered in the seventies when I was your current age. When I finally decided to seek help i was in my thirties. I called my only sibling thinking I was sharing good news. I can clearly remember his response..."you don't need to say anything about the family!" This raised so many curiosities for me. I realized the response was the best reason to seek help. Without saying there were problems the sib said there were problems. You keep searching. Do you have a therapy animal? Do you think one may be helpful moving away for the first time? Blessings to you.

I’ve been there before as well. The new med you were describing sounds like Alprazolam, it’s an anti anxiety med. I’ve been on them for years and they do work well but they will make you drowsy especially depending on the dosage. This is a med most doctors wouldn’t prescribe till the patient is at least 30 years old. If this is what you’re prescribed just don’t take more than what you’re supposed to! This medication if taken a lot for a long period of time and you stop you can have withdrawal symptoms and they’re not good but if you only take what your doctor says I’m sure you’ll be ok you’re most likely on a low dosage. And don’t worry about the antipsychotic meds after your experience it’s the best thing you can be on! Hang in there kid you’ll get past all this! Keep making these videos they are very therapeutic not only for you but anyone watching as well! 😊🙏🏻🎸😎

I'm age 21 and grew up in gymnastics for 14 years. My doctors were for my gymnastics accidents. I don't know what you are going through but you are on a journey of self-discovery. That you have a psychiatrist means your issues are physical--brain chemistry. I don't know if you are drinking a lot of water and getting physical exercise (building muscle should be great for mental well being too). I like that you are sharing as I think very many people struggle too. I appreciate you as a person working hard for being healthy. That encouraged me today. Thanks.

Ray Bradbury was once asked what advice he'd give to young aspiring writers. Bradbury said don't go to college. He said instead of college put your effort into writing just one short story a week. At the end of a year you'll have completed 52 short stories. He said that most of those stories would be pretty bad but a few of them would be quite good. I think that's good advice for you. Why not take a "gap year" just to write and to take care of yourself.

It's so wonderful that you're being open and honest about these issues, I have to commend you for that. I have some background with similar issues and treatment. I'd encourage you to not give up on treatment, it's a matter of finding the right meds and an appropriate dose that lessens the side effects. Occasional frustration is understandable. Talking and support are important as well, learning how to navigate difficult times and putting that into perspective on better days. In all the excitement of the upcoming days, remember to take care of yourself, center your mental health while pushing out of your comfort zone now and then (gently), and ask for help if you need it, don't hesitate. I hope college is amazing for you!

  • @gdhone2371
    @gdhone2371 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

James, I have to assess what I can and can't say legally here. I'll just say I have experience with a person who needed to take an anti-psychotic. There was voices, scenarios of people shooting at the person, none of it real. It can be a little scary being the person on the reality side. The meds help but they're not 100%. I learned to calmly sit and talk to the person, verify who is actually present and who is not, walk around the place with the person observing no break in, no bullet holes, etc. Slowly calmly taking the time to let rational thinking return. It works, not replacing the meds but enhancing their ability to help focus on reality. Of course I can't help you in this, I'm thousands of miles away. But I'm praying as you arrive at college you seek out and find at least one if not more people willing to fill that role, kind, caring but most of all calm, patient and rational. You need to be encouraged to work to define at every turn what is real and what is not. What is possible and what is not. You are way better off than the person I spoke of, which is encouraging because the challenge is not as great for you. You're going to be ok man, but it's going to take some work. Thanks for the video, take care to encourage yourself that you have, and are building greater, the character to overcome this.

Hello, Jwool. Thanks for the update, here is hoping the medications improve things. I empathize so much with you struggles. I waa care giver to my grandmother : she was a paranoid and had a nervous breakdown .... l new her over many years and eventually we became very close through my not taking her super seriously. I would make spontaneous jokes and she adored that because her own viewpoint was so so serious. Case in point. She kept complaing her tv picture was disappearing. Hundreds of dollars in repair bills. Then l discovered the problem : when she cleaned the set, she would turn the brightness knob to black. Had her use the feather duster after that. Be strong. You are doing good. It sounds like Aripiprazole, aka Abilify which is an antipsychotic and more in line with what a doctor would prescribe a 17 year old and newer patient experiencing these kinds of symptoms. Most clincians do not prescribe benzodiazepines (the class of drug xanax is in) unless they have exhausted all other options. Benzos are highly addictive and can form physical dependence very quickly if taken for an extended period of time.

Keep at it, it's worth the outcome. I'm living proof of the effectiveness of therapy and psychiatry and that life can not only vastly improve, but be hugely successful and joyous.

I'll also add there are people in the comments attempting to give advice about medication. Please ignore this. You are in the hands of trained professionals and the personal experience someone may have had with a medication in no way informs what yours will be. Everyone reacts and responds differently to psychopharmacological modalities. You might thrive on a drug, you might not, but it's up to just you and your doctor to make that determination.
To those commenters: A lot of misinformation, innuendo, and bias in these comments. It's very dangerous to give anyone medical guidance or advice, even as a medical professional, without working with them directly and regularly. Please stop.

I have had these voices before I actually wrote a poem about it
    The clock is ticking
    Every single second hurting
Allowing my mind to call the shots
    Ten thousand thoughts
    I keep saying no
But the voices in my head
    Keep saying yes
    Every move every action
    Controls my fate
    My head lets me know
    Loud and clear
    I can’t escape
    This madness
    In my mind
    Turns into minutes
    Of my life
    A prison in my mind
I am serving all this time
    To these bickering lies
    I am stuck
    Stuck with no luck
    No luck to getting out
    I am enslaved
    Until I die

I also had a medicine change after being on lexapro for years I switched to buspirone. The side effects for me were absolutely horrifying. Non stop panic attacks that lasted days, severe cases of derealization and delusions. I’ve been detoxing for a week and today’s the first day I feel normal again. This made me realize you can’t trust psychiatrists completely because they won’t ever fully understand what’s going on in your brain so be careful when it comes to medication even though it’s meant to help you it still is a drug

It takes some courage to share this and I commend you. It can be difficult to find the right medication and the right dosage for the best effects; and they often take effect slowly. These drugs are very powerful and the right ones will help you a lot but they often do carry some significant side effects. Alprazolam I think is your new drug and it's very good, but like every drug it works better for some than others and you do have to deal with side effects. FWIW I'm an old man and I've been taking antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds for about five years. They help a lot; you do get used to them (the antidepressant did give me some very minor and not-scary hallucinations for the first six months...that has gone entirely). Keep seeing your psychiatrist and I assume they have you seeing a therapist too. Drugs are new to my life relatively but many times in the past I've gone to see a therapist because they can help you unravel what is happening and help you get clarity about what is going on and what decisions to make. Good luck. Don't feel obliged to share but if it helps you, don't feel like you can't.

It sometimes takes some experimenting until you find a medication that you can live with comfortably. If the tiredness continues, you might look into adding Maca to your daily stack (if there's no contraindication). I'm on an SSRI that has tiredness as a side effect, and the Maca helps.

It is probably too late for this, but it may be a good idea to not look at the side effects for the drugs you are taking. Let your parents see them and report to them any problems you are having, but sometimes knowing what the side effects could be allows the brain to conjure up those side effects that may not have happened if we didn't know about them. Also, try to avoid any things that you know will trigger a negative response from your body/mind. If you knew that you had negative reactions to having any part of your body constricted, you should have never tried the face mask in the first place. Knowing what to avoid can help to limit the negative reactions you are having. I hope these new meds will help you without causing any harm from negative side effects. I am glad that you are reporting to us on all the days leading up to your college experience.

Your word behavior reminds of the lycrics by David Bryne, "There's a party in my mind. And I think it never stops. There's a party in here all the time. It is my party till it drops..." and I think in my study with information theory of one thing in this. The experiment is that you get a little kid's toy low cost Ukelehle maybe at Walmart and adjust it so that it has only one string. Mine is the second lowest frequency string as the one left. It is played in the style of a "Sitar, " a Hindu tradition stringed instrument for meditative musical practice. This is not because the goal is to be a concert Beethoven chamber music star of the stage, but it is just one thing. It is music therapy on a personal level easily readily available and simple. Mostly it is an approach that uses the stringed instrument in a rhythm of the strike of the tones, with a patting of the echo box also, for nuance to the beats. It is easily and readily very personal as an instrument not requiring much tuning or instruction to begin to practice with it. It is just one single behavior therapy practice idea you might try out. Use it for about 20 minutes every day at the beginning of the day and then at the end of the day and see what it may provide. Reference to neuro-behavior background signal that seems auditory suggests this is the major channel of tension release, so this may be a behavior therapy mode that can help you. There are basically four channels to social science modes for mental health, and psychiatry is one, then cognitive therapy psychology, and behavioral therapy is one and then peer or group counseling is the 4th main modality. Remember as the "consumer" you have the right to ask for a new doctor at any time when that hypothesis might be a functional option also. Our journey in all humankind in the practice of our consciousness is a complex and varied experience of many factors, our minds are not a simple reality. And yet, it is our minds that truly bring us closer to the true nature of quantum gravity physics, which in deed is reality. Isn't that fascinating? Kind regards.

Getting the medicines right and in the correct dosages for depression often means working with your psychiatrist for a while to pick the one that is effective with the least side effects. The good news is that you will find something that works, and the side effects may ease up over time. So don't be discouraged if you have to try a few different kinds and know that it's all helping you to get closer to feeling better.

James I am so utterly sorry you had to go through that. You are so so strong man! I couldn’t quite tell when you were describing it but were you having auditory hallucinations? It’s quite hard to differentiate the two but was it an internal voice inside your head or did it feel like there was an actual woman present near you in the room crying? I had bad sleep paralysis a few times recently and it was my first time having auditory hallucinations -of someone cackling. It was petrifying so my heart goes out to you. Hang in there and don’t lose hope with the medications it sounds like a pain in the arse but I know it will all work out for you in the end 🫶💪

Be careful not to abuse it even if you "like" it. I really hope this combo helps. If not they might try a different antipsychotic.

Not sure if your psychiatrist explained to you getting you on yhe right meds and dosage is a journey, and that's completely normal it can take sometimes 6 months or longer to get everything adjusted so you can be your best self. I slipped into a condition like you. When I started it again I felt better the same day. I also take an antidepressant which I thought was making the difference...but it was the "Mood Stabilizer."
