    The coil and the magnets around the lens is to adjust the focal length.

    The black thin round things are the spacers to keep the lenses just the right distance apart.

    hey, the laser pointer you are using also have the lens that can be used for macro photography with the smartphone .That lens is also threaded so you don't have to destroy the laser,you can reuse it.Usually i use that lens for " bad soldering joint" checking purpose.

    The coils might be the image stabilization system (OIS)

    The lens kit at aprox. 12 minutes, that switch you show, Open / Close. That is an actual "Ca,era Shutter!" The name "Copal" is a very old company that was making shutters for the old, "View Cameras" Where, 2 glass elements toward the image Then the shutter and then 2 more glass lens elements toward the film (Sensor in this case) Google the words, Copal shutter sizes. I would have NEVER guessed that these cameras use a shutter, let alone one of the leading manufacturers on the planet! Sorry, I think that is awesome!
    Cheers

    • @randomtronic
      @randomtronic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nagamani Hegde you would have to google the part number to find datasheet. I don't have this anymore, so no, sorry. But if you need the pinout, you must have the part. Just look for any markings and try your luck.

    - I think the lens assembly should not be teardown, but use as entire unit
    - I also think lens might be in pairs, one to correct the distortion of the other one, if they have a spherical shapes
    the DVD lens does not need to correct spherical aberration as it does not have to reproduce an image, just to read pixels. so this they are used alone.
    - because lens are so small (so focal points,... are very small), they are difficult to position one in relation to another in home use setting, so is difficult to work with them. note that focal length is multiplied by image sensor crop size, so to get same focal length for small sensor, the lens gets closer to the sensor and positioning is more critical as we talk at lower length...
    for home settings and adjustment better is to use lens from photo cameras from flea market...

  • @nathangreens7631
    @nathangreens7631 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The four lenses thing could be the correction to the inversion cuz looking thru a single convex or concave lens would flip the image

      Nathan Greens that is handled by the camera's sensor. Its just placed upside down.

      They are more about focusing and correcting lens aberrations, getting the image/colors to line up accurately horizontally/vertically at the focal point. Without them the image would be blurry and the shape of a 1950s television screen with different wavelengths of light offset from one another. There's a shitte-load of physics going on in lenses and multi-lens assemblies. Our eyes are masters of these physics, at least when we are young, our minds then take a good deal of artistic liberty interpreting this information before passing it on to our conscious.

    Is there any way these cameras can be repurposed to use in other projects as almost everyone has access to old phones with cameras?

    • @randomtronic
      @randomtronic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In theory, yes, but it's not simple, likely not worth the effort when you can get a ready camera module for RasPi for cheap, and it has all the drivers and libraries needed available and ready to use. If repurposing random cam module you would have to write that yourself :) (that's if you find the datasheet for the module you have)

    • @gartmorn

      Thought as much but worth asking. We're such a throw away society which annoys me and I like to reuse/hack if possible!

    • @randomtronic

    • @romanhanajik3185
      @romanhanajik3185 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gartmorn You must find CSI protokol for You camera Real price of originál old mobile phone camera is 2 times cheaper than RasPi camera (20 or 45€/$) with better quality. I like to also take a second breath for old cameras. Produce new one is not ecological. For one person make solution from old camera is expensibe, Yes, but cooperation will help us.

      Yes, that's what repair shops do. But you can't change camera to a different model, because each model has different setup and driving software to go with it.
