You can dry fire the Heritage Roughrider against the safety. Not sure how long the hammer will hold up. Ruger says the 10/22 can be dry fired, would do that alot though. There is a tool to repair the chamber if it gets damaged, it probably would not work so well on a revolver cylinder
The answer to this question is read your owners manual. If you don’t have one, or your gun is 25+ yrs old……don’t do it. Also if your revolver has the firing pin built into the hammer don’t dry fire in any caliber.

Why not use a an anchor screw instant of a snap cap? It cheaper
Yep, I know some use the drywall anchor screws and they work.
