Very, very instructional video. Thank you very much. I have several Nikon F3 HPs and use them regularly with the older Nikon lenses for my B and W films.

Just purchased one (decent condition - I enjoy slightly warn look). It’s amazing how it feels like a solid slab of aluminum in your hand. I will replace the light seals and clean it real good before I shoot my first roll through it.

I'd be curious to hear your opinion on the F3 compared to the FM3a. I would assume they're two different means to the same end?

You know, I haven't used an FM3a yet, so I can't really speak to it. Someday.

Pulled the pin and got one of these a few months ago. I love it.

Such a great camera. I've had mine for 33 years, and despite all the other options from which I can choose now, it is still the one I like best and use most.

Nice! Yeah, I absolutely love this camera, too.

Absolutely a perfect review on my favorite film camera, thanks...
Question: Are the Nikon Ais lenses any good on digital cameras? How do they compare to Pentax lenses as far as sharpness is concerned? Thanks

Thank you! For the AI lenses, they'll perform well. Check out my Round Glass Review series. I've reviewed a number of vintage Nikon lenses and those videos show how those lenses perform on high-res digital.

The Nikon F3 is my 2nd fave 35mm SLR next to the F2 and I really love your tutorial videos so I'm going to forgive you for mispronouncing Nikon.

Thank you! This F3 got a good deal of use this weekend, too. It absolutely holds up.

I have had mine for a week now and I really regret not getting one sooner….
Next to my F5, this is my favourite camera.

      Nice! Both are awesome cameras.

Just an FYI David, your audio in this video is coming through a bit "nails on chalkboard" tweaky on the high frequency when played on a Google Pixel 7. It's not really a problem on my desktop computer. You can use a parametric equalizer to trim the high end in Resolve or Premiere Pro really easily.

Thank you. Weirdly, that wasn't an issue on my computer at all (Davinci Resolve, Sennheiser headphones.) I'll keep an ear out for that on the A-1 video that I'm editing tonight. It could be related to the A7SII having had some dirt in the IISO shoe for a while. (I had to re-record a bunch of videos all over this summer because the mic was popping static every couple of seconds or cutting out.) I'll take a listen on my Pixel today and see how it sounds vs. online. Thank you again.

@@DavidHancock I definitely didn't see a problem on my desktop system, it was just on the Pixel 7. It's not severe, just not ideal.

@@DavidHancock Great coverage of the F3 by the way. Of course the Canon New F1 with speed finder is superior in every way, but the F3 is pretty good.

I have found with black and white 35mm film that the camera body is not as important as the lenses. Body is a film frame transport, shutter and meter. I own Nikon F3, F4 , F5 and bag full of manual focus nikon lenses.

Completely concur, and I'd extend that to C-41 as well (though slide film does still need an accurate light meter and shutter time for optimal exposure.)
