An arcade version of Samurai Shodown V Perfect will be released on exA-Arcadia this month with fully restored overkills and violence. It also has side artworks of all characters drawn by Shiroh Ohno (Samurai Shodown III, Samurai Shodown RPG).
Excellent summary! Brandon's a great guy. He also worked on the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection. A few similar instances happened when they were getting materials together for it, with old employees having assets and code sitting around on old hard drives. Amazing how much is out there to be restored if someone just asked.

Samsho2 is one of my fecorite fighting games ever,being able to play it online with rollback will be amazing, also never had the chance to get into Samsho5 so now it may be the chance with Perfect.

@@The_WIll_OF_D99 Ehh honestly Yumeji and Sankuro were pretty mediocre characters, i was glad SS5 Special replaced them with the bosses from previous SamSho games. I wouldn't mind having them back tho, just for an even bigger roster.

Perhaps after KOF 15. After all, SNK is coming back in a big way, and now that SS5 Perfect has finally seen the light of day, perhaps SNK can revisit another development hell project in MOTW 2?
Fairly different situations
It was mentioned a couple times in SNK's community manager's streams that the sequel of MotW was still unfinished, the way they described it there was still a bit of work to be done. I guess it would depend if they want to start from scratch or build on what they already have (assuming they still have whatever code and assets used to make it) and if they get the green light for it. But hey, we got this Samurai Shodown V perfect situation, so who knows. It isn't impossible.
I really hope so, Garou is one of my favorite fighting games of all time. Been wanting a sequel for 20 years now.
@@cel327z The case of SS5p is more similar to SF2ce to SF2hf. The case of Garou 2 is more similar to SFa2 to SFa3, or SF32i to SF33s.
I bought the original Xbox Ver. of Samsho V and I really enjoyed it! It will be nice to play it again.

As someone who played these games on the arcade I'm so happy that a 2D Samurai Shodown is being released after 20 years. This could possibly get a decent online community if the game is good enough thanks to the rollback netcode.
This is ported/emulated by the same people behind SF 30th Anniversary Collection, and their rollback was.... iffy. Let’s hope SamSho NG Collection fares better than 30th Anniversary online
The community on Fightcade has been going very strong for years for 2 and 5SP. In regards to 5 Special, many Fightcade players moved to the Codemystics version on Steam & GOG.
Perfect needs to have a cart release!
I do hope that this collection will include an extensive museum much like the one in the SF 30th Anniversary Collection (never before seen concept art, documents/drafts with annotations, interactive timeline, character bios, etc.).

I wonder if Yumeji and Sankuro will be playable on this one, considering they were present in original SSV but gone in Special.
More important, will it fix the pushblock bugs and the jumping back corner bugs?
After playing SSV percent all i can say is:
Its a censored version of V special with cutscenes as an excuse for story.
I haven't gone deep through all characters and their mechanics yet so i can't say anything about the game balance and bug fixes.
All of the blood, cut-off body parts and even the overkills have been censored. The reason seems to be the memory limitations of the game rom due to included cutscenes.
But the cutscenes aren't even that special. They are all same for all characters. The "story" starts with kuroko talking about looking for warriors for a tournament. As the arcade mode progresses he appears in some cutscenes saying that he sees potential in you and sometimes wishing you luck. By the end, it doesn't matter who is your final boss like amakusa or gaoh, kuroko gives you an invitation to a tournament which most likely ties the game with samsho 6.
Also the arcade mode is quite easy this time around. In v special the ai can give you tough time even on level 3 difficulty but in perfect, its very noob friendly. The ai rarely punishes you and you can easily blaze through the whole arcade mode.
So we should just stick with V Special, then?
Tbh both Samurai Shodown V Pefect and Samurai Shodown VI shouldn't even exist, both are censored and had no real story that ties in with the actual main series. SNK should had just give us Samurai Shodown RPG instead, at least with that one it ties in all the story events from the first game and end it well with events from the second game completely bypassing the filler stories from SS3, SS4, and SS5.

I am not 100% sure but many games in Japan were getting censored alot in 2000s after some shocking and horrifying events that took place in japan during that time. So i don't blame the game devs for this because they couldn't do anything without thinking twice about public and media pressure.
For example there was an incident where a schoolgirl killed her classmate with a paper cutter. These type of incidents lead to censorship in different forms of media. Those who didn't were given higher age rating than usual.
Also,
Snk DID make a samurai shodown RPG for neogeo cd, PS1 and saturn. I forgot its name but the story covered the first 2 samurai shodown games. They didn't try this formula ever again because the game didn't do well in sales.

If you liked no censorship and a challenging difficulty thengo for v special.
Otherwise i suggest waiting for some expert samurai shodown player reviews and opinions.

Was it ever stated that SSV Special Complete Edition's story is the same as SSV or are they completely new stories?
And Brandon Sheffield's tweets mentioned that there was re-balancing done for SSV Special Complete Edition but press release states that the gameplay is left untouched from SSV Special. So confusing hahaha
Some problems were fixed (eg. Enja's buggy speed demon move was removed), but there is no real rebalancing.
You forgot to mention that ss5 perfect is censored. Kinda important for potential buyers to know, don't you think?
My disappointment for SamSho 5 Perfect is that the violence has been toned down from the Zetsumei Ōgis. Basically, nobody gets cut in two from the fatal slashes.

I read in TV Tropes that Garou 2 was about 70% complete in 2005. I'm thinking that if they managed to get SamSho V Perfect for this collection, then maybe we can get Garou 2, albeit in the form it was meant to be. Not next gen as KOF XIV, or the upcomming XV.
At this point, it’ll be impossible to develop Garou 2 the way it was originally going to be. Technology is evolving, and 3D models are cheaper than the complicated, time-consuming 2D hand-drawn models. SNK is just starting to rise up again, and they don’t wanna take too many risks that’ll lead them to bankruptcy once again. But if SamSho 2019 has proven to us, is that SNK is starting to get the hang of making 3D models compared to KOF 14, and by KOF 15, it’ll be upgraded even further.
Believe me, I wouldn’t mind seeing Garou 2 with next-gen KOF 13-like 2D graphics, that would be beautiful-looking, amazing even! But we’re gonna have to get used to seeing a 2.5D Garou sequel, but hopefully after KOF 15, the graphics will be glorious.
And storywise, we’ll definitely get a continuation of Rock’s ending, but as for other characters, perhaps the original arcs will go as planned, but in the real-life time stretch, some elements will be changed because probably the directors have new plans. It’s like Samurai Jack’s ending probably changing in the past 13 years it was temporarily cancelled.
All I’m saying is, Garou 2 will definitely happen after KOF 15 is released this decade, but don’t be surprised if things are different than they were originally.
Different cases. SS5p is more like SF2ce going to SF2hf - very small differences, plus a story. But Garou 2 is a bigger project, it's more like SFa2 to SFa3, or SF32i to SF33s. More solid differences, new chars, etc...

Yeah, that's true. even though the sprite sheet they released had sprites of the original game. Then again, Capcom re-used sprites for the SF Alpha games, yet each game was indeed a sequel, specially Alpha 3.

There's no way SNK lets that ROM go themselves, there's money to be made as it is. I'm sure someone will extract and distribute it though, wouldn't be at all surprised.

I have got a question; Why did they not include Samurai Shodown VI in this collection? It looks like the anthology version which was released a few years ago.
Answer is because SSVI wasn't part of NeoGeo Era SNK|PlayMore never release it on the MVS so that's why as far as Anthology it was a stand alone port not a NeoGeo collection that's why it's not even on the NeoGeo Mini

What an amazing story! Extremely lucky that SNK kept the hard drive data or this unreleased version of SS5 would never have seen the light of day! Game companies out there should take lessons on how to do collections right! I’m looking at you, Silent Hill HD Collection, and you too, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection (poorly done rollback online like SF5, and 3rd Strike Online originally on the PS3/X360 still runs well, and it was ported by Iron Galaxy!)
Really hoping for this collection to do well online, and Nabil, I’ll be here waiting for an official review and getting your thoughts about it. I’m expecting SNK to make a next-gen comeback in a big way; way over modern Capcom’s fighters. Rollback (and crossplay) is the way of the future, and SNK needs to embrace it wholeheartedly.
And who knows, if KOF 15 is successful, perhaps the resurrection of their old titles? Garou 2? Last Blade 3? A new World Heroes? Metal Slug?

Samurai Showdown 5 special was preorder only. They did not make extra copies. It was only being developed to say goodbye to the Neo Geo. When it came out, the fatalities were removed but fans were not happy with that. So SNK requested everyone send their games back for a replacement.
This game was never meant to be updated again in SNK's eyes because this was the final game and they just recalled the last games to fix them. Any info leaking that this game would have more content would be very bad with their already upset fans who bought this rare game.

My main hope for Samurai Shodown 5 Perfect is that they nerf Enja and Suija. PLEASE!!!!
Suija is maybe B tier, and Enja is arguably the weakest character in the game. He needs to be buffed, not nerfed.
@@McD_James Weakest character in the game? Enja always kills me in like, 2 hits! Plus, both him and Suija always block everything I do, which doesn't help.
@@marplatense31 Enja's special move you think of is abused by the AI, but is super hard to do by a player. So you have some kind of balance here. Your problem is not Enja, but the AI. And your own skills, of course.
@@richterbelmont3963 i agree, it's your skills that make you kinda lose to AI's but even for me being a good sogetsu player, i rarely ever defeat enja and suija, cause AI loves to abuse the blocking move even on a lower difficulty, sujia, enja, nakoruru, etc.
Enja is actually terrible, but yea of course the CPU can make ANY character seem cheap.
As per comments and reviews, the rollback in the collection is terrible (might as well not be rollback) and Perfect is just Special with a very lightweight story and with gore removed...

Seriously they could had included the two Samurai Shodown NeoGeo 64 arcade games and the Samurai Shodown RPG from the NeoGeo CD. Yes those were never released on the actual NeoGeo AES or MVS but they still count as NeoGeo Samurai Shodown games as they still carried the NeoGeo brand. To not include those in this Samurai Shodown NeoGeo collection was a miss opportunity on SNK's part.

Samurai Throwing, cpu usually thrown you. Some characters has low kick longer than you wield weapon, poor game.

It didn't have that Neo Geo feel. It felt too modern and too toned down.
I really don't know what to expect from this game. SSVS was a dream match because the characters involved weren't make any sense in the prequel V was.... So adding a story (a.k.a a bunch of text on the screen) doesn't look very promising...
