I'm shopping for a camp oven and so glad I came across your video, I wasn't even aware you had to season them so thanks very much for the great, easy to follow video lesson.
Thank you so much for the feedback. I am glad I was able to help someone. When you season it out is best to use rice bran oil or peanut oil an it has a higher flash point. I didn't mention that in my video.
I bought a "Gabriel Gatè" camp oven for $10 at the op-shop. No idea if it's a quality one or not but it's fairly well used. I knew it had to be seasoned but wasn't exactly sure how. I already knew the most important part and that was to have the froffies ready to go. Thanks for the video.
Very good tutorial. When I season a new oven the first meal I cook is one for the dogs, boiled up meat off cuts etc just in case there's still some of that new manufacturing taste left.
Great video mate!!! Ive always had trouble keeping my spun steel camp oven seasoned. I might have to try doing it over the fire instead of in the oven! 👍
Give it a crack mate, if you do it in the oven, do it for at least an hour at 200 degrees. I have recently been informed that peanut oil or rice bran oil are better for seasoning due to the higher flash point which makes sense.
