I saw Frank and Dean on the same stage just before Dean became very depressed after his sons death and retired and passed away. it was at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City. Iconic!!!
I think that the things that made Frank Sinatra so stylish were the era in which he grew up as well as the surrounding cultures. This paisan was also a fashion icon in his own right! He had good taste and style. Also, a lot of class and a taste for simplicity. I think that the Black American jazz music scene on 52nd Street in NYC also played a huge influence on his fashion styling. Cats like Nat Cole, Duke Ellington, Sammy Davis Jr., and Miles Davis were cool, and slick trendsetters. He was also influenced by the east coast Ivy League look that John Kennedy and Peter Lawford popularized. This styling was clean, simple, classy, yet casual, and ALL-AMERICAN. And lastly, his goombahs in the mafia influenced his bad-boy look. He was friendly with thugs like Ben" Bugsy" Siegel, Sam "Momo" Giancana, and Charles "Lucky "Luciano. These men were all highly fashionable individuals. Yet, they had a dangerous street element to them. I'm a huge Sinatra fan and I've read at least seven biographies about his life. I think that these elements are what made him the fashion icon that he was.
Fantastic video, loved every second of it! I had the incredible fortune to see Mr. Sinatra perform live on his final tour to Australia in 1991; even at 75 y.o. he remained an absolute boss and looked impeccable in his tuxedo. The concert also gave me the rare opportunity at that time and age in my life to go full suit and tie without attracting snarky comments from others about being excessively overdressed lol
My grandfather and Sinatra were both Italian immigrants who grew up in Hoboken, New Jersey around the same time. My grandfather was a poor man, but he and my grandmother always looked sharp. They impressed upon me the importance of dressing in a dignified manner that shows self respect and respect of others. Not stuffy, but stylish and respectful.
The opera pumps with a lounge suit look is one I'm a big fan of! I regularly wear mine with my suits. I wear hats daily, and I agree that tilting the hat is a must.
Thank you for the breakdown of Senatra's style. For a second I thought, Preston would give us another of his lovely preformances as a surprise. That would have been the cherry on top
I bought Zehme's book about Frank's style called "The Way You Wear Your Hat" back when it was first published. I recommend picking up a copy if you're interested in more information about Ol' Blue Eyes!
SUCH a great video! Thank you. I shared this with my amazing mom (she's in her 80s) and she loved it! We even had our own Sinatra Style discussion afterward. She's a huge fan of Sinatra, and said she'd never seen anything about his personal style before. Anyway, thanks for giving us a fun activity. Who knew menswear could be so inspirational! BTW, we watched the Preston Sings video afterward, and he was a hit with our family! Best wishes.
Yep, really enjoyed this video! And Preston, anytime you want to upload a new video of you singing standards to the tune of an orchestra or swing combo, please do. Great stuff, to paraphrase Cary Grant.
I love Frank Sinatra. In fact, he is in my ' top three ': Frank Sinatra, Fred Astaire and Milan Chladil ( a Czechoslovak singer ). I love his songs! And his style is inspiring too!
Thanks for this! This video was extremely informative and inspiring. As I develop my own personal style, I'd love to see more of these classic style analyses!
Fantastic video and dapper ensemble. I was wondering if you could do a video on different kinds of alcohol, like beers, wines, liquors. I would be interested to learn about their history, how they are made, what distinguishes different types of alcohol, and the customs and traditions associated with each of the common ones. For examples, in past videos, you have mentioned that some places buy a barrel of port on the day a child is born, to be opened on their 18th birthday. Also I have heard that red and white wine are commonly paired with differend foods. What situations would it be common for a gentleman to have a glass of scotch or brandy? A comprehensive video on this topic would be great. Also I have noticed from past videos that Raphael and Preston's opera pumps look quite unique, certainly different from many pictures that come up when searching online. There seems to be quite a large variety of different shapes and details when it comes to opera pumps, maybe just as much diversity as oxfords or derbies. If my observations are correct, it would also be nice to have a video dedicated to that. Cheers!
People in that era were more stylish in general. While picking up food from a diner today, a middle aged woman came in wearing horrible looking jeans with large holes in the knees and strings hanging down. This is how people present themselves in public. Then she looks at me funny with my polo shirt, casual pants and newsboy cap. I once had someone tell me I look like I stepped out of the 1940's. Well, the standard of dress was much higher then so that is a compliment.
Apologies if I missed it here but based on Wikipedia he really enjoyed pin striped suits and cleanliness which isn't a bad habit obviously. Fascinating video as always. In the Wee Small Hours is probably my favorite record of his.
Loved this, I remember the old days, personally was a little more a Dean Martin follower but loved Frank's confidence and style, Deano was a little more rough and rugged...well done guys 👍🇦🇺🇭🇷
As a person who love Frank sinatras songs im am dying from al of the refrences that peeston have Made especialy to My favorit Frank sinatra song strangers in the night
Good video, Preston! "Luck was your lady tonight"...good job!......Do you know where FS bought his fedoras? Who was his haberdasher? It was a load of pun listening to you use them..."none but the brave" would do so many...I'll listen to them "from here to eternity" & not get tired...😊FS's headgear in & out of movies looked like they were all custom - made for him...
Hi gents! I was wondering if you could make a video rating people's tie collections, I'm slowly building mine and would love to hear what the experts have to say about it.
Hi your. really talented writer speaker Really nice you get a APlus in all your reviews on every topic how did you get to be so detailed and interesting I’m serious I’d love to be able to write like you 💕
The movies had stylists/ fashion specialists. And his agent likely connected him with style coaches for stage performances. So that and hobnobbing with a wealthy jet set he was surrounded by good taste. And he certainly was the poster boy for 😎 cool.
I feel like my style is a bit of a blend of Cary Grant and Sinatra s style, I like having a more subdued look for my suits with traditional darker colors but I do like ties with patterns that contrast
Yes! My man Frankie. Now hit on Dean Martin. Yes, I know. I’ve asked for that for the past few years. Get in this ASAP please. Thanks. Be well. Btw, he’s a Sicilian-American. You might think its picky but not me.
Francis Albert Sinatra was a man with a capital M. He did it all and he made no apologies. More men would benefit from living by his example. Here’s to you, Frank. 🥃
Hi Frank always dressed classy always that what real woman love. We hate slobs. Beards hats worn backwards !? Awful tattoos etc. guys today have NoClass at all. Thank God there are still some men who know how to dress be super clean that’s what gets to me wow clean guy ….all the way record hugs 💕🙏🕺🎉🥰💵
I think theres one rule you can take away from this, ans its very similar on the lines of spezzatura. Its the idea of breaking rules that you can get away wirh while still retaining very much the traditions. Think of oxfords with jeans and a dress shirt or wearing patinad shoes black shoes with a tuxedo. I think its on a case by case basis. It helps to learn the traditional rules before straying off into your own sense of style.
Hi love your utube and love Frank dressing style in everything he did Singing Film etc he dressed so classy because he was sexy iwhere he wore his hat posing photos Facial expression all went together with true style

He was a scumbag!
The opera pumps with a lounge suit look is one I'm a big fan of! I regularly wear mine with my suits. I wear hats daily, and I agree that tilting the hat is a must.
There's always room for a Sinatra song! Thanks for the great videos!
The intro already got a chuckle out of me so let's do this!

Yes, it is really good book. Highly recommend. Preston nails another great video. He’s the Sinatra of (stylish) video presentation. Well done, sir.
Keep up the good work, & nice look Preston

Thank you, was one of my long-time requests.
Excellent video as usual. I would like to see similar videos on Jackie Gleason and Bing Crosby. Two of my favorites! Keep up the great work Gents!

I LOVE your videos, but this one was elevated to the max 👌🏼😮💨🤌🏼
Great and informative video about Sinatra. Thank you for the tips (as always)
I wake up to "That's Life" to remind me life is the way it is each day and to take it in stride. Love this breakdown!
I wake up to 1812 overture - if you don't stop it till the cannons come, you get the kaboom
Thank you so much

These Sinatra punchlines will fly views to the moon and let you play among the stars
Bravo Preston !!
To be honest, Preston, in my opinion, that outfit is the best so far.
So far, but I think the best is yet to come.
@@ZachariahMBaird We see what you did there 😉
Preston bringing it! Fun!
Ah one thing, I noticed Sinatra usually used a Windsor knot for his ties, even since the 1940s!
Apologies if I missed it here but based on Wikipedia he really enjoyed pin striped suits and cleanliness which isn't a bad habit obviously. Fascinating video as always. In the Wee Small Hours is probably my favorite record of his.
I love the puns! Keep it up!
Sinatra is definitely the look of the “idealized post-war dad” to me
Love it
Great script for this video! Well done
This is the video I needed.
Great video gents
Excellent video gentlemen !!!!! Sinatra is my favourite classic
Loved this, I remember the old days, personally was a little more a Dean Martin follower but loved Frank's confidence and style, Deano was a little more rough and rugged...well done guys 👍🇦🇺🇭🇷

Nice video. Two other gentlemen of style that should be kept in mind are David Niven and Idris Elba. Also Fred Astaire and Patrick Macnee.
Great suggestions, thanks!
Preston's perfectly promoted pattern of pun presentation is previously preserved.
I’ve always been a fan of Frank Sinatra but as to style, I do it My Way!

Please do Dean Martin
I have to ask, was the reference to 'SHINE' intentional?
Sinatra and Dean Martin wore the black tie ensemble. They were entertainers. You know
Great video!!! Now it's Dean Martin's turn
Shoo bee doo bee doo, Baby!
Frank Sinatra with his olive oil voice and ginny charm.
He's one of my favorite singers. Any review for Andy Williams?
I always thought Alan delon had great style. I like the suits from le samurai.
Cool hat too
Very cool episode. Please do one for Nat King Cole!!!
Bing Crosby had a unique style too
Hi gents! I was wondering if you could make a video rating people's tie collections, I'm slowly building mine and would love to hear what the experts have to say about it.
Bro the intro was smooth
Hi your. really talented writer speaker Really nice you get a APlus in all your reviews on every topic how did you get to be so detailed and interesting I’m serious I’d love to be able to write like you 💕
You should do a video on Mario Lanza's styling. He always dressed immaculately.
Lanza always had a KILLER haircut, too.
Hey Preston, if you guys do a Gentleman's Gazette event in Minneapolis in the fall, would you be interested in singing "Well Did You Evah" with me??
Being in Ocean's Eleven just makes you more stylish. Sorry, I don't make the rules.
And don't over layer when standing in that Summer Wind...
What? No mention of Sy Devore?

Sinatra was tops….except maybe for Bogey! Maybe a Humphrey Bogart guide next!
Air attire was much more formal in the 60's as flying was still quite elitist.
Yes! My man Frankie. Now hit on Dean Martin. Yes, I know. I’ve asked for that for the past few years. Get in this ASAP please. Thanks. Be well.
Btw, he’s a Sicilian-American. You might think its picky but not me.
🔥🔥🔥
When he dresses up in front of a mirror, he'd be singing 'Mahhhhy Wayeeee'......... lol
Helpful video.
Hey, make a is it worth it video on brooks brothers and bridlen shoes
POV: your going to New York: Start spreading that news…
Francis Albert Sinatra was a man with a capital M. He did it all and he made no apologies. More men would benefit from living by his example. Here’s to you, Frank. 🥃
I lost count after about 8 references, but I know you did a few more

For those who is looking for a real Tribute/Cover songs of Sinatra, search: "Tremonti sings Sinatra", that gives you goosebumps!!

His Mia Farrow years were an anomaly. He was often seen in bell bottoms, neck scarves, and tie died shirts.

A hat's not a hat til it's tilted.
"Don't dig that kind of crooning chum."
- High Society.
Sprezzatura Americano
To avoid unwanted creases in his pants, Sinatra would go pantless in his dressing room and put them on just before his live performance.
❤
Hi love your utube and love Frank dressing style in everything he did Singing Film etc he dressed so classy because he was sexy iwhere he wore his hat posing photos Facial expression all went together with true style
I think the most interesting fact about Frank is that he's so vain that he takes a bath many times day and smells like lavender!
I did not think he was particularly handsome, but the way he dressed made him look good!!! Daper.
People looked better back then because ,They took time to wear nice clothes and they were not overweight as a rule
That color doesn’t work for you at all. Ditch the grey and orange.
The disclaimer is ridiculous. You mean a human being wasn't perfect?? DESTROY HIM!!!!!
I'm not lazy. I'm just laissez-faire.
Tough sell.
I put him in the John Wayne category - they both had good wars and didnt even serve and there is controversy over it. I cant preclude that
I'm surprised there's no mention of his extreme OCD. dude took a shower and changed clothes 10+ times per day.
