  • The Mission Bells outlining El Camino Real were erected as part of a plan to identify California in the early 1900s. Now, some native tribes want them gone.

    No. The removal would exactly that wash the history away. Leave them. The native nations have survived. They need to be told. Not washed away.

    I understand, but the massive casinos are much more offensive than bells. They do much more harm, and we should focus on removing the millions of non native palm trees planted here as well. They really don't belong in California, with the exception of the Palm Springs/ 1000 palms region. The rest should be gone and replaced with California Oak and sycamores.

    Only middle passage descendants are allowed to complain (or destroy) about historical monuments. I see those bells as I do the civil war monuments : a sad chapter, but one that should never be forgotten. Take away those monuments and other visuals, and there is no longer a talking point. History cannot be served up all nice and sanitized. It didn't come down to us all squeaky clean...we need to know all the warts and scars that made this country what it is today.

      The Franciscans came in with NO ARMY, NO FORCE. They were welcomed, for the most part, by the native tribes. Thankfully, if the Franciscans had NOT come, the indigenous people would have ended up as either like the brutal Aztecs or slaves to the Aztecs. This is a HAPPY chapter in history. As you say, history cannot be served up all evil and brutish.
      God bless.

    As a Mexican/American I see it as a shame to remove the bells. I mean in México we have architecture that dates back since the 1500’s. Over there there’s also a huge movement of removing a lot of shit that to me seems really a waste of time rather than something good. In this case I also see it as the same it’s a waste of time and it’s also erasing part of our culture, which shows that the mestizos & Españoles we’re here. The tribe member also try to compare this to the Confederate flag or to the situation that I assume he’s referencing to slavery in the south which truly isn’t the case here, you can’t compare the history in southwest United States compared to the rest of the country it’s stupid.

    Personally I don't think going through the trouble of removing all of these bells is practical or warranted. Whether we like it or not, these markers are a reflection of our history and you can't just pretend like it never happened because it hurts your feelings. Maybe the bells can be accompanied by unique art pieces created by the tribes of each region the bells are found in, kind of like how public spaces have both nativity scenes and menorahs during the holidays? Instead of taking away we ought to add further context and deeper meaning.

    • @joevarga5982
      @joevarga5982 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You've been taught a whitewashed version of history by our liberal education system. You need to WAKE UP. The native Americans didn't OWN all the land in North America any more than a bird owns a forest, or a fish owns an ocean. They didn't PAY for it. There were no property deeds. They didn’t give up anything of value to obtain it. The natives were nothing more than SQUATTERS. The bounty of the Earth was to be SHARED by all living creatures. Whitey just wanted to eat, but wherever whitey went, natives showed up and claimed that they owned everything - ALL the land, ALL the buffalo, ALL the deer, the ENTIRE lake with ALL the fish, etc. The selfish natives didn't want to share with whitey.
      The natives were savages. Nature’s way is survival of the fittest. People had to FIGHT for land back then, just like wild animals do today. Natives fought EACH OTHER for territory all the time, but it was only called “stealing” when whitey won. The savages constantly attacked white settlements and wouldn’t leave whitey alone. They tried their best to exterminate whitey. That’s right - GENOCIDE. They raided settlements and killed men, women AND children. Kidnapping and scalping white people alive and slowly strangling them or flaying them (look it up) were favorite activities of these subhuman A-holes. Whitey was superior to the natives in terms of technology and intelligence, so whitey won, just as nature intended.
      The native savages didn’t want to coexist with whitey, so whitey was forced to either kill them or to round them up and physically separate them, just like we separate criminal savages from civilized society today - by putting them in PRISON. It would have been much easier just to slit their throats than to go through the HUGE effort of escorting them to their new digs, but whitey was far TOO NICE and decent to kill them. This PROVES that all whitey wanted was to be left alone and to live in peace. Whitey didn’t want to kill anybody. The natives got what they DESERVED for refusing to share the bounty of the Earth and to live and let live. You won't learn the truth from a history book in school. It's all anti-White BS today.
