It's an interesting conundrum, it's his right to set restrictions at his event... however his event would not exist if not for his affiliation with the Leafs.

The anthem singer was a Grammy nominated country singer. She did admit later today she was intoxicated.

About the anthems, MLSE has the money to pay the singers. A lot of pro sports cities get singers to volunteer to aing the anthem, sometimes well and sometimes not so much.

Jay speaks reason from experience, Nick speaks like fan. Coaching and systems are maybe more important than super star talent. Add great Coaching to super star talent...could be very good.
The variable in all this is the new coach. He strikes me as one who will not put up with the lack of grit. My take is that MM will be BEGGING to be traded by Dec 1st.

Colorado has a WORSE cap situation than the Leafs.... its why they are a 1 and done Cup team. now they are desperate to shed salaries. If the Leafs win ONE , then none of it matters. Rangers and lots of teams are in cap hell

I love your podcast the most of any, but seriously guys. You say Marner shouldn't get a raise as he avoids trouble, hasn't produced a championship and your are right - but you handed the "No Show Coward Matthews" a raise and he's done what in the playoffs - ZILTCH. And if you think he is going to be the greatest Leaf ever just because he pumps 70 goals a season but evaporates when the going gets tough - then you know nothing Leaf history that I have followed since 1964. Trade "No Show" and Marner and start to get serious about this team instead of fawning over someone because it's "kool".
Here’s a reality check. Look up how many times McDavid has been swept in the playoffs. Spoiler alert: the Florida series was almost the fourth time. What did the best player in hockey do in games that matter against strong defensive teams? He got completely shut down. Read between the lines: Any player can be shut down in the playoffs. The difference is that the Leafs play in a division with three of the best defensive teams in the entire NHL. This is reflective in the number of President’s trophies, Cup wins, etc between these teams. It’s reality.
This talk of downplaying Matthews and Marner is ludicrous. You don’t score 69 and suddenly become bad in the post season. It has more to do with the opposition teams the Leafs face every year. McDavid can score at will against bad teams in the playoffs. But he has also been completely invisible and ineffective against good teams in the playoffs including the SC final. It was a laughingstock he won the MVP for that performance.
IMO this is the worst leafs team yet. Why? No hope. We KNOW this doesn’t work. Some D added when scoring at a critical time has been their issue every single year mean they still don’t understand the systemic issues or are simply willing to take fans money and don’t care
No amount of scoring will make a difference when you play the elite of the elite defensive teams in the NHL with elite goaltending in the playoffs. If you doubt this look up how many times McDavid was swept in the playoffs against good teams. He couldn’t do anything in games that mattered against the Panthers “almost sweep” either.
Leafs fans need to figure out that when you play the best of the best in the playoffs-defense first teams like Boston, Tampa, Florida, teams that won Stanley cups, presidents trophies, etc. it’s going to be hard to score. It only looks easier for other teams because have you seen the goaltending in some of the series that McDavid racked up the points in? This isn’t hard to understand, people. Facing LA every post season and their garbage goaltending will be an easier matchup for teams…
McDavid was swept 3 times in the playoffs. That should tell you all you need to know. The best offensive players can be made ineffective with teams that play good defense. You put him on the Leafs it would NOT make a difference. I watched him in the Florida series he was completely ineffective. Shut down hard.
This blame the core is shortsighted. Yes, changes need to be made. Go watch the highlights of how the Leafs lose every game in the playoffs. So many soft goals every series, often every game. Their goaltending stinks and they lose with soft goals every year. They are close to beating these teams. They needed better defense and goaltending. I think they addressed those areas significantly.
Happy Birthday Jay!!! If you think Craig Berube has the same talent on the leafs he had in St.Louis you gotta be dreaming. St.Louis was in last place in January, truth is, they had no business being in last place. The defense alone was chockers with what is needed to go deep in the post season and Bennington was playing lights out. To think Berube can make miracles with this team is going a bit far...we can hope, but to turn these perennial underachievers will be a hard thing to do, they seem to care more about their toys than their trophy case...

Yeah, he's not the happy guy - but he calls it as he sees it and IMO he's bang on. No team has won with a cap/structure similar to the TML. The Leafs ARE repeating the same old shit (with the same old expectations) - and it IS stupid. If last week's content is accurate, Shanahan views this team as Detroit 2.0. If THAT'S right, we're all in for more disappointment.

dont care. they are going to run it back and then get bent over by marner because they are too scared to tell him whats what. ah well. i stopped watching long ago when it became clear this team has zero heart or leadership and management is fine with it. still follow them a bit but they dont deserve my viewing time.
