My little 2 year old girl and I love to watch your videos together. Yesterday evening I had to change a coil on my wife's car. As I'm working I look over and see that the little one had grabbed a ratchet and a few wrenches to play with. She is going to town on her plastic pedal car with them. I asked her what she was doing and she replied, "I'm making it fast Daddy. Like Mrs. Emily!" Keep up the good work. We really appreciate the great content you provide. It's so nice to have something I can watch with my kid that puts women involved with cars in a positive light.
I can't give enough thumbs up for this video update on the #DatZen. The first start up, the first drive, a wrap job, AND HotRod Power Tour 2017? I'm really proud of y'all. You really knocked it out of the park with this one. 365 whp in a chassis that light and tossable should make for an awesomely fun time. Way to go! One of the best episodes yet!
You guys make awesome videos. It makes good sense to have your beautiful spouse doing most of the video stuff, especially when you obviously know a lot and can wrench on stuff. I don't comment on a lot of videos but I felt like praise was warranted.
Always nice to see another lady in the garage spinning wrenches. I do envy how CLEAN it is! Keeping my shop clean is always a chore. I could never wear my "nice" clothes in my little shop or wear makeup (makeup and welding do not mix at all), I have to keep my junky welding/fabricating clothes separate from everything else. Keep on wrenching and learning. From one female mechanic/fabricator/welder to another. :) thanks for the great video.
Just discovered you guys! Really good stuff, Emily is fantastic! Love that she discovered the blocked fuel rails! You can just see her confidence building; brilliant youtubing!
You crack me up Emily, lol... And it good to see that your husband and you work out the problem on video. keeping it as real as possible giving the time.. Flying Sparks is one of my favorite sub 's.
35:34 I know it's 3 1/2 years after this posted... Those 70's Z's were such BEAUTIFUL cars! Such sexy lines! I said this over and over watching MCM do their 240 build and now (years after the fact) I'm saying it again watching this build. That thing looks like it's doing 100 mph sitting still.
Your face when it first cranked! Thats exactly how I would look. As Nissan person, I absolutely love what you did with the engine and the hood. It looks beautiful.
I hate to say finally, knowing grief you went thru and how time consuming editing raw footage can be, but, FINALLY! We get to see those glorious injector tubes go down the road. I think they are the car. The old As had style and an LS with tubes and pipes is just perfectly balanced. We need you guys to put that setup on a C3 Stingray and sell the kit as A DIY upgrade. Awesome result. Need to get some detail on the setup nua need and lessons learned. Great result. My 64 Vette 327 was also 365 HP!
All them problems but like hubby said it's part of hot rodding That 6 liter sounds wicked👍 Nice build for sure !! Not sure about the color Thanks for bringing us along for the build 👍 love your vids
I fixed a broken throttle cable on the side of the road with a shoelace in the pitch dark, by feel. I only had 30 mph but made it home. 74 Datson B210 back in 87.
Honestly though, when y'all got that 5.3 fired up for the first time firing on all 8 it sounded SOOOO good. I don't dabble much in the V8 world anymore, but I could only wish I had something that sounded so good. There will never be any import that could compare to the burble of a domestic V8. I have never been brand specific, I've owned many many cars over the years and I own a self-built 508 whp Honda Civic because I always rooted for the underdog, and it doesn't get much more underdog than a Honda 1.8L, but just hearing that 5.3 makes me want some crazy Nova, or a Olds Cutlass, or something from the early to mid 80s with a LS swap with some big old heads and a fat nasty cam to cruise around in.
Awesome job guys. Got to admit when I first saw the colour scheme on instagram I really wasn't keen. Then when I watched this episode I was I still wasn't sure, but I must admit towards the end of the episode it was definitely growing on me. Still think it would have looked the absolute business in a really deep black. The rest of the build is awesome, I've really enjoyed the zen mini series 👍🏻
Watching your channel in Hawaii from the small island of Kauai. Love all the awesome builds you guys are doing, my wife and I love your show. You have two new fans🤙🏾🤙🏾
Back in the early 1980’s my friend Tom Farrell stuffed a 350 in a 240Z! Turbo 350 and a Datsun 2+2 rear end! Car flew ! Broke motor mounts Twice ! Emily strap it down! Lol! He owns Farrell’s Restorations now in Mooresville NC!
A trick you could use, is wrap your hands or fingers leaving the top knuckle clear, with adhesive bandage tape. Not only will it protect you, it will help you heal to.
Emily, I knew you guys had issues with the engine, but wow. That 6.0 running on four sounded like an old VW. Props to you and Aaron on a beautiful job.
Aaron,Emily. You two certainly enjoy life and each others company. When I got old enough to drive ,,started washing cars at a new car dealership, that just took on the Datsun dealership as well. I got to drive brand new 280z's to deliver to customers. We called them 'the Corvette killers' at the time. :) You'd be surprised how many people would stop and look at these cars on the lot,,and would come in and say,,"that must be a misprint on the window sticker". It seems these cars were around $7k , new ? You could buy a new Datsun B210 at the time for less than $3k. Also, seeing how you were headed to Newton,IA,in this video, was going to mention that Emily has a twin (lookalike) that lives in the small town of Knoxville,IA,only about 20 miles from Newton,IA. Her name is Emily also,,her Dad owns the black and chrome TMC semi trucks, you see running up and down the road that are always spotless,This Emily is a gearhead also,,, True story. Just some ramblings here. Have a good "next build" in the shop you two.
You guys are awesome! I’m not a huge fan of just putting an ls into such a beautiful classic but i love the connection you and your husband have through cars, reminds me of my girlfriend and I, although we stuck with small four cylinders and big turbos haha
well you would be an idiot if you believe she knows or does anything with those cars outside of repeating what she is told for the camera. Its called getting view, T&A get views, that's all they are doing. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Anyone who works on cars know that you don't freeking do it in daisy dukes, sleveless top, and untied hair.
My Cousin has a 73 Datsun 240Z with a 355 in it with 400hp the swap was done back in the mid 80's he use to race it but now it sit's in his garage collecting dust
I have to say you guys need a check list for projects like the nova. I would have to recommend testing an engine on a test station before putting it the Nova.
Well if you get everything right and fuel primed it should start first crank... Hell my 68 mustang that has been sitting for 2 years started up within 10 seconds today (priming fuel) after just an oil change
I need to quick watching these 280z builds. My dad and I have plans for one, and its making me want to rush to do it. lol awesome build though. It sucks about the first motor. I absolutely loved the header and intake decision though. lol
365hp in that light car could be dangerous. Please don't let just anyone get behind that wheel. That back end will slide right out from under it with an inexperienced driver. Looks, sounds, and tests beautifully. Great job guys and gals. Love the outro; any woman doing a "sexy" spot that breaks out into laughter with such a beautiful smile, get extra points added for a great personality. Daisy Duke v10.0? Nah, Daisy ain't got nuthin on Emily.
Yup that 'aluminizing' comment WAS nice!...around these parts, we call it 're-build in a can'! And, sometimes, a guy will wink when he says, "I freshened up the bottom end.".
lol i kept looking a 280z and thinking the only thing wrong with it is it doesn't have a v8. NICE JOB!! makes me want to build a 240z/280z with a carbed v8
The car turned out great. I was a little worried when you said the wrap color you chose was brown. looks more like copper and goes good with the black flares and hood vents.
I wish you could of heard me yell, no signals…….would you believe my Corvette 383 sounded like a 4 cyl lawn mower until I threw out the MSD electronics. As far as possible and put on a new electronics with coil in cap system. Now it’s a heavy runner. Not like yours, but a very lovely sound!!! ❤️🤣😆👍👍
Emily I just started watching your videos with my wife about a week ago after you got that awesome deal on the boat. And I seen this video in my eyes lit up my first car when I was 17 and 1983 I bought a 1978 Datsun 280 Z that looks like what you have here. I missed the story on why you got a 280 Z .. what’s the story behind it and why you bought it if I may ask?
Finally the ending. gezz, Ha! Just kidding, was well worth the wait. Gotta watch those idle take offs, have those issues myself. You guys did a great job, so glad you had some fun. Now I wonder if Weld would build me some custom 4 lug wheels, the Draglites are kinda 90's looking.
WHAT???? You were in Ohio and i missed you?? I hope my fellow Ohioans were gracious and hospitable toward you. It looks like y'all had a blast on the Hot Rod Power Tour, I guess the hard work paid off. I hope you didn't get too flooded out from Hurricane Harvey.
I just found you guys, I hate to say it but your wife is Beautiful, and smart. I love talking and working on Engines with anyone who knows their stuff. Forgive me if I spell Arron name wrong, but you guys Rock!!
Just found this channel while looking at 240's. V8 swap?!?! Firstly I was Nooooo, then Yessssss, then Nooooooo, then I thought I saw the little dog scoot on his bum and I thought Yessssss, worth a subscription for the laughs. Cheers.
Did anybody catch where they got the fender flares? What brand are they? Looking to find those, perfect size and shape, and looks like they FIT. Or maybe Aaron can say?
Custom builds should always be "blueprinted" and results recorded to eliminate these costly and time wasting mistakes. Also prior to any start-up, oil pressure should be confirmed by manually running the oil pump and/or cranking over without the spark plugs. I cringe seeing an engine run without oil pressure-- even for a few seconds; bearings might be OK for now but sooner or later, maybe not.. Wrenching since 1955 with degree from School of Hard Knocks.
Hey guys, just came across one your videos (5k dollar BIG BLOCK powered BROKEN BOAT, ACQUIRED!!!) and immediately subscribed! Excellent! I'm not even a 'boat guy' but it looked interesting and didn't disappoint! After continuing to watch some of your vids I came upon the 280Z vids. Zen is NOICE!!!! As I watched this episode I had to say "No wayyyy!" twice as you also used two major components on Zen I am also using on my current build, Li'l Red (my L98 swapped 1994 Jeep Wrangler YJ). I am using F.A.S.T.s EZ EFI 2.0 (30404-KIT) and Davies Craigs EWP150 with Digital Controller (8870) on Li'l Red and I'd love to know what you thought of both of them now that you have some miles on Zen. I don't have a TH-cam channel or webpage on the build but if you'd like to see the work I've done so far I have a Google Photo album with pics of every step I took along the 4 year (so far) journey and a build sheet that's almost up to date with every component (I need to add some of the latest items). Steve
We are stoked to have ya!!! The water pump has been fantastic!! The EFI was a struggle to get kinks worked out but FAST was great in the customer service department! So glad to have ya here and thanks for watching!!!
@@flyingsparksgarage hey thanks for the feedback on it. I Can't wait to get her fired up and try these out. I'm especially excited about the EWP150 setup as I've always hated dealing with heat issues (especially in traffic). You guys rock!
Love your videos i am now a subscriber to your channel can"t wait for a video on the red holden monaro in your garage. You two are a great couple stay safe., cheers from Australia
Do you happen to have the dimensions on that radiator? I'm working on a V8 swap in a Chevy Monza. It looks to me like that thing might be the right size for what I'm working as well. I checked there website it only goes by sbc or ls swap application.
very fun watching, you went from crappy tractor mode to Race car, very sweet, really sounded terrible at the first, open headers might be a tad loud, but sounds very sweet
Dipped out! I thought I was going to catch a bit of pretty mechanic in a bikini. Well we sorta did and we sorta didn't. It wasn't the shot I was hoping for, let's put it that way. That car, BTW, is a really nice effort. I had a 280zx, back when they were new. There are some good things about it... An LS in it would be a distinct improvement... It had recirculating ball steering, and as long as that was all set right, it worked well. But it worked loose. So you'd back off the lock and tighten it. Two days later, it was loose again. If you went a tiny bit too far, it'd bind. If you got sick of it and left it alone, it'd have 3 inches of play at the rim inside a month... When it was set right, it was about as good as any recirc I've ever used, but it took constant fiddling... I'd much prefer rack & pinion.... The thing about the 280, was it looked like a sportscar, but that's not what it was. It was a luxury limousine for two adults and two children, or two small adults... It did handle better than most cars of that time, but it handled like a stretch limmo. It was a much heavier, much softer, much more complex and sophisticated car than it looked like from the outside... It wasn't exactly slow, but a sports car it was not... It was a luxury two door sedan. It was the wrong car to buy, as an 18 year old.... It was the Japanese version of Boss Hawg's convertible, with the bull-horns on the bonnet. It was showing the world what you thought of good taste, which wasn't much... It was what poor people thought rich people drove. It was a car built for a 60 year old bank manager, to show he still drove a "sports car". His mistress looked good in it...
Great job completing the build for the tour and making the Z look almost as good as Emily. I only wonder if some thick cometic head gaskets might have alleviated your problem with the 6.0?
haha I love the "Long gangly arms demonstration. haha! P.S. that water pump and oil prelube system look like some good kit. I'll have to get me some. thanks.
Damn, almost exactly what my 5.3 made at the wheel. I made 364 rwhp and 349 rwtq using a 212/218 cam and ported 243 heads, along with other little things.
Love you two, love Roxy, and totally love the Dat-Zen!!! Great work, especially in crunch time swapping engines. Roadkill would be proud...lol. Looking forward to the next vid already. P.S. I ordered a hoodie and a tee :)
emily, loved your subtle ''gloat'' about being right on the fuel rail end caps. can we see some in car/out car footage on a road course? WHY aren't there more fabulous babes out here like you?
Good morning flying Sparks garage how is the weather down there in Texas how old is the Bronco you have I like the Bronco videos of you guys are doing I like to see the Bronco back on the road I think Ford made a good vehicle
You're a real character Emily! The car is very cool too. I like that copper kind of color!! They came out originally with a color similar to that, yes, or am I mistaken? More brown I think?
My little 2 year old girl and I love to watch your videos together. Yesterday evening I had to change a coil on my wife's car. As I'm working I look over and see that the little one had grabbed a ratchet and a few wrenches to play with. She is going to town on her plastic pedal car with them. I asked her what she was doing and she replied, "I'm making it fast Daddy. Like Mrs. Emily!"
Keep up the good work. We really appreciate the great content you provide. It's so nice to have something I can watch with my kid that puts women involved with cars in a positive light.
That is just THE GREATEST!!!!
My youngest walks along the side of our car, whacking it with a screwdriver, insisting that she's fixing it.
Dwight Huddle
That is so sweet. Mine is 8 months and I can't wait until she is my little garage helper. Brings me to tears
What a great job showing how a build really goes!
Lots of friends, great manufacturer support, and most of all a great couple working together!
You two are the real deal! You should be so proud of all that hard work. Plus, the 280z sounds even better in real life! Thanks for your kindness.
The Z looked great when I saw it in Madison on the Power Tour. Thanks again for sighing my valve cover. It's proudly displayed in my garage.
andrew james power tour wisconsin
Glad I found y’alls channel! Showing the highs and lows of a build is rare these days. It’s nice to see local peeps cranking out awesome content too!
You guys make awesome videos. It makes good sense to have your beautiful spouse doing most of the video stuff, especially when you obviously know a lot and can wrench on stuff. I don't comment on a lot of videos but I felt like praise was warranted.
Mike Kennedy We appreciate it Mike!
The Productive Procrastinator Sure do appreciate it!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Just discovered you guys! Really good stuff, Emily is fantastic! Love that she discovered the blocked fuel rails! You can just see her confidence building; brilliant youtubing!
Love your videos guys! So refreshing to see a family of gearheads where everyone gets their hands dirtay. :)
If Emily keeps that up, she's gonna need a little "hand make-up" for her next modeling gig!! ;^)
Awesome video, you did what everyone wishes they would be done and documented the whole thing.
You crack me up Emily, lol...
And it good to see that your husband and you work out the problem on video. keeping it as real as possible giving the time..
Flying Sparks is one of my favorite sub 's.
The trumpets, the wheels and the wrap! Love the colour - it's authentic, the kind of colour Datsun would paint their cars in the 70's.
Admirable that you kept smiling despite all the setbacks, good work, the car looks and sounds great.

Wow, ur awesome! Keep up what u are doing! #Inspirations.👷💄
This build has been so much fun to follow. Thanks for sharing it with us!!!
All them problems but like hubby said it's part of hot rodding
That 6 liter sounds wicked👍
Nice build for sure !!
Not sure about the color
Thanks for bringing us along for the build 👍 love your vids
God those 180 degree headers sound so good. Nice work guys, even with the set back. Glad this episode finally came out! :)
That feeling when the engine first starts 😄 Priceless 👍👍
Emily, I knew you guys had issues with the engine, but wow. That 6.0 running on four sounded like an old VW. Props to you and Aaron on a beautiful job.

You guys are awesome! I’m not a huge fan of just putting an ls into such a beautiful classic but i love the connection you and your husband have through cars, reminds me of my girlfriend and I, although we stuck with small four cylinders and big turbos haha
You guys always work so well together. Nicely done.
I think it's great a pretty lady knowing so much about cars ! GREAT JOB 👍👍👍👍👍👍

I wonder if what Swodaem says is true. It would be cool if she knew stuff, but even if you do this on camera, guaranteed you will learn something.
Semah the Rettihs so your basing her knowledge based off what she is wearing? Sounds pretty idiotic to me
@Semah the fool
Yet you are here.......
My Cousin has a 73 Datsun 240Z with a 355 in it with 400hp the swap was done back in the mid 80's he use to race it but now it sit's in his garage collecting dust
Nice work, Guys! Killer Build. I love how down to Earth you are. Car Guy Hugs! Congrats
I have to say you guys need a check list for projects like the nova. I would have to recommend testing an engine on a test station before putting it the Nova.
10 out of 10 for having a you tube site 1 out of ten for entertainment and education.
Great job ! You do great with those tools to .. Your a dream come true ! All the best to both of you !
while it looks nice, what do you do in the rain???
Nice observation of the fuel rail issue Emily ! I hate when my wife does that though.
Great video guys! love to see the Datzen!
I can wait to start building stuff. Looks very awesome.
Damn that car is a credit to you both congratulations to you both. Looking forward to your next project
yeah those wheels are definitely doing it for me. Nice choice
On television the engine always starts on the first crank, not so in TH-cam real life. Nice job
Ozzstar We’ve had builds start on the first turn of the key!!! Like WTF!!?! But THIS ONE. 🙈🙈🙈
Flying Sparks Garage do you street race any
And THAT is why TH-cam car shows are better. None of that silly Discovery Channel drama.
Michael McFarland are you Cleetus' brother? (for the whole comment generaly)
I absolutely loved the header and intake decision though. lol
First video I watched from y'all, wont be the last. Real life gear head occurrences, cool car, and a pretty young lady. Not much more to ask for.
Aluminizing... You guys are great people !
Good to see how it all came together! And tell James that he needs to let me talk him out of that 79 Pickup.
Love the car color it's spot on for the car and liking the black flares. Nice build.
Thank you so much for this video! Better late than never so I have to say that you ROCK! None Better!
definitely going to have 180 degree headers on my 240sx Ls swap! great videos guys love them!
Nicely done guys! A real team effort and the results are amazing.
That was a lot of hard work and a shame the 6.0 had issues but looks like with persistence you made it work and had a blast on the tour. Good times!
I'm so glad my daughter patrina turned me on too you guys .I love how you guys work together.
The car turned out great. I was a little worried when you said the wrap color you chose was brown. looks more like copper and goes good with the black flares and hood vents.
I like the wrap color; very period correct for the Z.
this is so cool, i love the 280!! Congrats on finishing it, can't wait to see what the future holds :)
Good on you Guys! Such an enjoyable episode. 👍🏻
Congrats Emily and Aaron on a great looking Datzen, those cars just have sooo much space under the hood, just begging for a V8 to be put in :)
Andrew Murray
1960 apache!!!
@26:33 "...We got Finley!" hahahaha
Those velocity stacks look awesome through the hood! Straight badass!
you all do a good job she looks so good without her glasses a good model. i wish you all the best!!

Love this channel!! Just found you a week ago. This build has been great! Emily you rock!
Please release content more often :) because I'm selfish :)
That Z is raw! The wheels really make it.
I just love those old 280s, they are awesome.
Sorry if you don't mind me asking did you have to use a fuel management for the ITBS down drafts
WHAT???? You were in Ohio and i missed you?? I hope my fellow Ohioans were gracious and hospitable toward you. It looks like y'all had a blast on the Hot Rod Power Tour, I guess the hard work paid off. I hope you didn't get too flooded out from Hurricane Harvey.

Really love your last name.

Just found this... what is the CI of that LS? A few years back I had a 2002 Corvette Z06.... headers, cam, intake pulled 442 rwhp and 391 rwrq,
Love your videos i am now a subscriber to your channel can"t wait for a video on the red holden monaro in your garage. You two are a great couple stay safe., cheers from Australia
The stack injection and the Radiator is impressive!
Do you happen to have the dimensions on that radiator? I'm working on a V8 swap in a Chevy Monza. It looks to me like that thing might be the right size for what I'm working as well. I checked there website it only goes by sbc or ls swap application.
that was awesome worth the wait
very fun watching, you went from crappy tractor mode to Race car, very sweet, really sounded terrible at the first, open headers might be a tad loud, but sounds very sweet
so what's up with the 6.0L will it be rebuilt and put in the Zen
His mistress looked good in it...
new subscriber. noticed you in the deathwish videos. great group of guys! keep rocking
I'll have to get me some. thanks.
VRJensen1 Haha! They worked! And yes! Those two items are BADASS!!
Congratulations. What an awesome build!!! I am new to your channel and just liked and subscribed. Looking forward to more.
you want to do that alignment measure at ride height with the suspension compressed from the weight of the car.
Ha! Always great to see that model shot with the long hair wafting in the breeze - and a #GearHead shop in the background 😋
Damn, almost exactly what my 5.3 made at the wheel.
I made 364 rwhp and 349 rwtq using a 212/218 cam and ported 243 heads, along with other little things.
@ 2:22 thats a puppy Yayyyyyyy... Puppy love .. love puppiessssssss
Hay you two if I might make a suggestion on the Z up grade the lights to Hella h4 with Sylvania silver star ultra bulbs.
Love you two, love Roxy, and totally love the Dat-Zen!!! Great work, especially in crunch time swapping engines. Roadkill would be proud...lol. Looking forward to the next vid already.
P.S. I ordered a hoodie and a tee :)
how much do the individual air filters decrease power output?
emily, loved your subtle ''gloat'' about being right on the fuel rail end caps. can we see some in car/out car footage on a road course? WHY aren't there more fabulous babes out here like you?
OMG,.. your adventures look like so much fun!
Good morning flying Sparks garage how is the weather down there in Texas how old is the Bronco you have I like the Bronco videos of you guys are doing I like to see the Bronco back on the road I think Ford made a good vehicle
What did you do TO reroute the FRONT DRIVE pulley after the EWP?
You're a real character Emily! The car is very cool too. I like that copper kind of color!! They came out originally with a color similar to that, yes, or am I mistaken? More brown I think?
