To be fair it's worth mentioning that a Canyon size S is a medium for nearly all other brands. For example an S Canyon Ultimate has a longer toptube and seat tube then a Tarmac SL8 in 54, which is medium.
Brilliant. Fitted my wife, Rosie, last year - 3 years after giving birth. All saddle issues gone. Lowered saddle, brought it forward, slammed front end, Lakes! (cx332 in a 38), G8s. Rosie got her first Nat B top 10 last week. So grateful.
James advice about fitting your cleats as far back as you can is for me golden advice I got this advice from a previous video he did on shoe set up and have never looked back. The difference in comfort is night and day.......Thanks James👍👍👍
I'd love to read what she ended up doing, changing parts or a new better fitting bike. After all it was said that a parts replacement would only get her close to the ideal. With my own bike fit I had my bars and stem replaced which helped a lot but ended up using MyVeloFit for rapid prototyping the saddle fore/aft and height. During the pro-fit the seat map was excellent. The fine tuning required long rides to confirm changes which aren't that practical when using a pro-fitter. MyVeloFit provided numerical comparisons of small changes which helped. I've never felt this one with the bike for endurance riding as I do now.
I've been following you for years and I'm so glad you've finally started doing your own videos. This was great. I also thought Nikita was Tahnée Seagrave at first. Crazy.
After seeing you in soooo many Cade Media videos James (all excellent by the way), it's great to see you doing your own. Also really enjoy how you give technical explanations, but in a straight-forward and understandable way. Subscribed and looking forward to seeing the future content.
As we collect birthdays, our bodies change, so a bike every few years makes sense. Life changes, such as pregnancy or injuries, benefit from bike fits.
Long time coming! Watching your vids on Francis’ channel has improved my comfort on the bike immensely. Here’s to you continuing your good work, helping others on their quest for comfort on your own channel!
Ive had the pleasure of being "bike fitted" at Bicycle. The change was astronomical, specially when it comes to leg & feet problems. Forever thankful! Might drop by one day to discuss those wall hanging solutions!
Completely agree with the concept of fitting first and buy later , problem is not all of us live in an area with fitters that have the bike jig so we have to rely on manufacturers recommendations, great video to bring awareness of how many of us are buying the wrong bike size , btw hopefully you can visit the states soon to fit people
These are great, James. Would be nice to see what the riders look / feel like after the changes have been made on their bikes. I cannot recommend this channel enough. I had a bike fit (not from you, i am in the US of A) and feel I learn so much watching these. Knowing what to tweak when things hurt or feel numb.
I always wanted to come and have a bike fit with James, always been a fan and an admire of your work. I have had a bike fit with another professional but never felt 100% happy. I look forward to more videos. 👍
I don't know now how long now you've been doing this but this golden, I must have sent so many people your way over the years! Not sure how many actually took me up on this, but this is inspiring to watch even knowing half of what you know from 25 years in bikes. Would you do me a video for the ladies specfically on what makes a good saddle choice... ?! .... I shan't swear but lets say as a man it's hard to advise in any situation... It's a male led industry by history and it's hard to find good advise with proof... Let alone a good personable reference with great visual examples, having spent years supporting Tacx Turbos and fenatic rehab crowd that comes with it along with many lop sided wear patterns on saddles, uneven cleat wear, etc. etc... My brain is saying James needs to do the Nivea advert of saddles ... Just an idea!
Yeah I got a bike that is too big for me from a local shop years ago. In my case I reduced the reach 3 cm and dropped my saddle down a bit and after I did the latter I started feeling like I was sitting back on the saddle more. If I even go 1mm higher I start getting perennial pain, trap, neck and hand discomfort. Feel amazing when the saddle actually starts feeling like a saddle instead of this thin uncomfortable thing you are sitting on.
If I was in the UK I would have definitely gone to see James for a fit before I splurged on my dream bike last year. But I did take his advice and went to a local bike-fitter here in Brussels that also offer a "fit before you buy" service. My Trek Checkpoint is so damn comfortable to ride as a result!
This is what I enjoy watching, James rectifying real everyday problems and showing the difference it makes. I certainly need the help of this man when it comes to buying my next pair of cycling shoes, my feet are odd 😅
Watched you from when you featured regularly on Francis's channel, and it's good to see you now have your own. I would love to get a bike fit done by you, however you're a rather long way from the Isle of Skye.
Hey there James, it would be cool if at the end we had a comparison between the before and after fits. it would help us determine how a good bike fit would look. I'm all the way at the other side of the world, and the bike fitters here are lacking to say the least
Could be great to hear a bit of explanation what changed - did the pause of pregnancy and healing after childbirth made previously tolerable discomfort intolerable? Or it's changes in the body that drove the need for a different fit? Or both? And do women typically need a change in fit or it vary from case to case? Other than that enjoyed the production and the video!
Would like to have seen after changes were made, maybe an update later ? does she get along fine with changes or opt for smaller bike in the end ? Great channel , been watching bike fit tuesdays for ages. great stuff!
I had numbness in fingers of my feet, moved cleats backwards (saddle height also adjusted), it was better but still some numbness after 1.5 hour rides. This season I damaged sole where cleat attaches and it was always losening up, so not to buy right away new shoes moved cleat forward (even further than original position) and BAM suddenly I felt no numbness and even bike started to feel more "cushioned". So I am wondering is it something I need to change in bike or is it okay to have cleat more forward position?
Unfortunately it is commonplace in this industry, had a gent in the other day with £30k worth of bikes - both wrong. It is due to the lack of professionalism and education of the bike industry
@@Bikefitjames big fan of your work James. learnt a sh1t ton listening to you. resisted even looking at another bike a few weeks ago at bike exchange because of your fit first mantra. 🙌🏻 your the new money saving expert haha
I hope the industry sees all your videos, James.
I hope the buyers will see the video, industry will follow
Yes 🎉
Finally! A dedicated channel for Bike Fit James! You have saved me from a lot of pain ever since I started cycling at the beginning of the pandemic.
did you go and see him or did you use his tips to fit yourself?
@@faiznasruddin6596 I watched all the BikeFit Tuesday episodes. I would have loved to get a bike fit with him but I live in a different country.
I see bike fit james as an recommendation and instantly watched, liked, commented and subscribed

Yes, whoever did the sizing for Canyon, sizes are really off.

I had a bike fit at James shop, best thing I ever did.
I keep waiting for a video about fitting people with short legs and long torsos and hearing James say he is built that way makes it even more!
We can do that but it’d be a short video!

Bike fit tuesdayyyyy
I’ve never thought to describe myself as a sausage dog but as a long torso short legs person that’s what I am.
We sausage dogs should stick together - one day we’ll be in charge
So where abouts in Richmond are you please James and how do I book a bike fit? Many thanks.
K
Check the description
very good
So in reality she should sell the bike and get something that's more her size?
If adjustments can’t be achieved by swapping components within a reasonable range, then yes
I'll just come out and say this: would love to see a fit for a fat person with a lot of midsection. Has yet to be featured on youtube.
Provide me with a candidate and we’ll do it
Really hope you add the ability to send tips on your videos
Working on it!
