Dante's Inferno 18 & 19 | Simon Magus & Monetizing Spiritual Gifts

The buying and selling of spiritual gifts was called the sin of simony after Simon Magus, a character in the Acts of the Apostles. It's a wonderful story involving Simon Magus and Peter, and it helps me to fully appreciate how to approach the spirit. Simony is the trademark sin of religious institutions. Several popes find their eternal resting place in this corner of the underworld.
