Loneliness, Solitude, and Transcendence | A Tarot Meditation
I use tarot cards, especially the 5 of Cups and the 4 of Cups, to explore the themes of loneliness, solitude, and transcendence.
There's a great tarot playlist, where each card in the Rider-Waite-Smith deck gets a separate video, here:

If you prefer text, this is also a great resource:

Here's an introduction to the Wild Unknown Archetypes deck, which I also used in this meditation:

Dante's Inferno 32 & 33 | The Ninth Circle | Ugolino & Ruggieri
มุมมอง 218ปีที่แล้ว
In the Ninth Circle I meet the traitors. The story of the traitors Ugolino & Ruggieri is the most heart-rending story in the Inferno, and this episode is also the most gruesome. I also investigate the various types of treachery as presented by Dante. I consider what bonds of loyalty I feel I owe. This in turn launches me into a meditation on the gratitude I feel and how I ought to respond to th...
Dante's Inferno 30 & 31 | The Liars and the Nephilim

The liars close out the eighth circle. I meditate on how lying could be such a dark sin that it's placed so deep in the Inferno. Then I meet the Nephilim, giants who stand guard over the ninth circle. I recall their appearance in Genesis, which is one of the most fascinating and mysterious passages I've ever encountered. #dante #liar #nephilim #giant #spiritualjourney #philosophyfortheliving

Dante's Inferno 26 & 27 | Odysseus' Final Journey of Discovery
มุมมอง 204ปีที่แล้ว
Odysseus here gets one final adventure, not found in Homer. This final journey of discovery, however, turns out to be a lesson in what to avoid in a spirit journey, especially in shadow lands. Odysseus doesn't know when to stop, and this leads to his destruction. I don't want to fall into the void so that I never return. This is a crucial lesson in a spirit journey through the underworld. #dant...
Dante's Inferno 24 & 25 | Shapeshifting with the Thieves
มุมมอง 99ปีที่แล้ว
Dante's marvelous description of how a human transforms into a serpent alerted me that it's time I learned about shapeshifting. In this area of the underworld, thieves are punished by being dispossessed of even their own bodies. If they would have a human body, they must steal it. And they must exist eternally with the knowledge that even this most basic of possessions will never be secure. Eve...
Dante's Inferno 22 & 23 | Shamanic Dismemberment & The Hypocrites

When a spirit is torn apart before me, I'm reminded of how common death and dismemberment is in the initiation of shamans across many cultures. To better understand this experience, I explore the myths of Orpheus, Osiris, and Dionysus. I share how I've begun working with this experience in my meditations. I also encounter the hypocrites. To preserve myself from the risk of hypocrisy, I remember...

Glory hallelujah ! He's back! Couple of things... Remember abandonment to a human infant - the most vulnerable and dependent being in the universe - is a death sentence. The worst part is, babies know that. Their stomachs tell them. And we will do anything we can to secure our lives. That's where aiming to please comes from. It's called "The Narcissistic Defense". Which apparently you're too good for because you've kept people waiting for so long 🤣 In terms of loneliness... There's a lot of talk of a loneliness pandemic. If you look at the stats, there are several unprecedented trends going on.

I wanted to watch a video that had exactly what you said, what you call a shamanistic approach to Dante's Comedy. The outlined therapeutic journey to wholeness. As one reads the poem and recognizes such evils within one self moves deep into One's Self to the point of also living One's own capacity of redemption and One's own virtues. See the love that moves the Sun and all the Stars. Great video my friend!

When will approach the end of the world, the man of sin will attempt a supreme effort against God and His Christ. Michael, the champion of the rights of God of Heaven, will rise again, and will defend the servants of Christ, overthrowing the seducer from his throne and kill him. This is the teaching of the of the doctors. They teach us, by the witness of Saint Gregory, that the Archangel Saint Michael will be the celestial envoy who will kill the Anti-Christ. It is written, it’s true, that the Lord Jesus will kill the Anti-Christ by a breath of His mouth; but the commentators understood by these words a command given by the Christ to His Archangel: Saint Michael will act as His minister, as a ray of His glory.

5:14 Unfortunately, this is a misreading of the text. While the 'virtuous pagans' are indeed sinless, they ARE punished for dying without baptism and correct acceptance of Christ. These are faults that preclude them from salvation, which cannot be absolved by goodness or innocence. Remember, Limbo is in Hell proper, a place for the eternally damned which promises 'eternal pain' and where they shall 'abandon all hope'. The fate of the unlearned, according to Dante, is an eternity of conscious deprivation from God's grace, and thus unceasing anguish without end. From Mandelbaum's translation of Inferno, Canto 4: The sighs arose from sorrow without torments, out of the crowds- the many multitudes- of infants and of women and of men. The kindly master [Vergil] said: "Do you not ask who are these spirits whom you see before you? I'd have you know, before you go ahead, They did not sin; and yet, though they have merits, that's not enough, because they lacked baptism, the portal of the faith that you embrace. And if they lived before Christianity, they did not worship God in fitting ways; and of such spirits I myself am one. For these defects, and for no other evil, *we now are lost and punished just with this:* we have no hope and yet we live in longing."

    • @philosophyalive
      @philosophyalive 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for this reply! I especially appreciate that you gave evidence from the text. Though I'm quote from Longfellow in the videos to be safe re: copyright, in fact I'm also reading the Mandelbaum translation. Thanks again for sharing this!

My friend Michael took time during the quarantine to courageously engage in sharing his thoughts online in a weekly video broadcast. I know many people who have had the idea of coming up with a video blog or a podcast, but they ultimately shied-away from the challenge - there are so many obstacles, excuses and fears that stood in their way. I'm sure Michael, too, had many fears about beginning such an involved project. Perhaps the corona virus situation made any fears about sharing personal feelings and ideas seem very small in comparison to fears of the pandemic.
