It's difficult, but with frame advance it's possible to grind on a ledge if you hold the control stick in the correct position. And you can either rapid fire the a button or use frame advance and you can repeatedly long jump backwards. It works because Mario falls off and lands back on the ledge every frame. he uses blj (backwards long jump) to gain backwards momentum, it's a common glitch used in 0 stars speedruns
