Francesca, you outdid yourself with this psalm. It hits you right in the feels. I loved the darker quality of the piano accompaniment. You brought out the pain of Christ's suffering. The melody sits right in the powerful part of the voice making it so expressive. The building of the last verse and then the quietness of the refrain left me sobbing. I was always bothered about Jesus saying from the cross "My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?" How could Jesus, the second of the holy trinity, talk of abandonment by God? When I later understood that he was harkening Psalm 22 as prophetic of his initial suffering and then his song of triumph in his suffering, I then had a fuller understanding and appreciation of Psalm 22 as the song of suffering and victory of Christ from the cross. Your Psalm 22 reflects that so well! Thank you!

And I always felt that way, too, wondering how Jesus could feel abandoned by God when He is God. But He was actually fulfilling the words of the Old Testament speaking the Psalms, which were the prayers He prayed, and summoning God the Father to be with Him in that moment. This Psalm has always moved me so deeply, and I'm so glad you feel the same way.
