The Devs' mistake is why I waited until the start of the Permian to give up playing as Arthropods completely as the boost in oxygen made giant versions of them viable to play as.
I started out as a vertebrate, then gave up once I got bodied for the 16th time by a bug. I went to do some bug and fish builds for the rest of that expansion.

If i'm being honest, tierzoo is my favorite way to learn about animals. Biology is interesting to me, but having it in gaming terms is awesome.
I remember maining Griffinflys for a little while, and whenever an experienced player saw me they’d immediately start spamming “Noob” and “fucking new players.” I mean I had just joined the game, it was unfair! I didn’t even realize the exploit until I was an experienced player and did difficult builds.
It should be fixed in the new patch. All the pros are grinding on mars server or Hell DLC anyways.
Believe me, i know, i started playing the minigame "rise of kingdoms" and i chose spain and when i told someone that i chose spain they said that spain is a bad choise, like, it aint MY fault that im spanish and i like spain.

Im actually gonna have to correct you on this update. This wasn't a glitch, but rather an oversight by the devs. When the devs introduced a new material for plants, called lignin, they introduced trees into the ecosystem for all the new players to chow on. But they made an oversight in that bacteria and fungi players could not digest the lignin in the trees, which would normally take in the oxygen in the atmosphere and spit out co2. So the oxygen built up, giving arthropod players a big advantage. It didn't take too long for the deva to realize their mistake and patch in the ability to digest lignin, balancing everything out
It took them 60 million years to patch out that mistake, the dev team was a little bit lazy
@@iker9095 They were probably pretty tired after the lengths they had to go to to break up the Devonian meta. Dunkleosteus survived the first extinction patch, forcing them to do another.
It might not be as much of a threat now, but Dunkleosteus was very strong at the time. It and some of the other fish like Hyneria were so strong that the non-giant predatory fish players were begging the devs to let more guilds access the land servers.
@@exalt2674 maybe true, but it was a bit too harsh for the reptilian players at the time. They were barely introduced and had to face very dangerous opponents, specially the first flying build(if it wasn't the first, then it was the first strong flying build). That may also explain why did the devs make them the most dominant species of the server for the longest time after that, they probably wanted to compensate them, but got too far again and had to drop the great extinction event again. Let's what happens in this mammalian meta

I have always wanted to see what would happen if someone took a biosphere and artificially adjusted the oxygen levels to 35%.
That would be terrifying.
Well if you did it now... since humans exist, it would certainly mean lots of terrifying insects, but it would also be great news for humans and other large mammals. More oxygen is a superbuff for every species in a higher weight class, it's just that arthropods benefitted more in that meta.
I don't think this was a glitch i think this was a x2 XP period for all of the Arthropods.

@@daniellewilson8527 No because we humans ourselves broke the game. The arthropods back then got their stats handed to them, whereas our ancestors had to grind really hard to level our intelligence stat up. We didn't have to rely on any overworld events to thrive. In fact, according to tierzoo's video on how humans broke the game, the ice age balance patch actually hit the sapiens faction in the African server pretty hard.

If these builds were still this large today, some humans with “phobias” would have devastating debuffs, making this a good counter to those who fear them.

To be honest, the game was really well made. Creatures update to the environment they're in without the dev's direct influence. That's incredible.
And sometimes when a creature has luck (like myself) the devs change the creature coding a little so he does not get an early game over

The sponsorships are much better as well because if people really aren't interested in them they can just skip to the actual content again, whereas with the ads you have to sit through 30 seconds of garbage - sometimes your sponsors may be cool too so another bonus!

Actually, it was the devs to the partner game flora, to this game, named fauna, that made that change. They added the ability for some players to resist destruction of their stems, allowing trees to grow, which caused the massive plant count spike, and consequently the massive oxygen spike.
Biology, with RPG references and Runescape mixed in? This gotta be a channel specifically designed for me lol, that's my niche, right there.

The plant/fungus metagame is much deeper than usually given credit for. But the carboniferous era was when a lot of those vascular and mycellium builds were being tested out- the explosion in popularity of the animal factions was largely a response to that, as an even more fast-paced version of the heterotrophic build. So much so, that it really shifted the more active gameplay into the animal builds. They may just seem like background now, but every time the autotrophic factions get updated or unlock new adaptations, it literally shifts the entire game balance. Early tree builds were absolutely insane before they got nerfed by herbivore updates. But they started to exploit those right way with the seed&flower expansions, and are still some of the most iconic zone mapping players. Plant faction is 100% long game stats

it's ashame because now tanky builds can just dominate in environments that have a ton of hazards by pushing the opposing player into a spike or something, way too op and that's one of the reasons i stay away from canyons and swamps

Dude it's called a Seasonal Challenge, they do it every 3 irl months or so. You'll be able to get some powerful defence and hp boosts until you die and get reborn as an off-spring, or you pick another build.

Reaper is a character in Overwatch with a teleport ability, and that's a entirely believable patch note. Also if you look carefully at the top left you can see half of the Blizzard logo; they're the company that makes Overwatch.

The transition to the sponser was so good it took me 10 seconds to realize its a sponser
To give the devs a little credit the vegetation glitch was probably related to the introduction of the "wood" trait, which massively increased the HP and DEF of the higher-level land plants. And it was also was bugged so that the DEF buff didn't end when the plant died, so no-one could gain xp from the dead vegetation. This was never really patched, instead they just introduced the lignicolous fungi build with the Permian patch.
This channel keeps getting better with every episode.

My main pet peeve with this update was that there were no Mantises yet. They were not a class till the Jurassic patch came up. A Mantis during the Carboniferous update would have been so OP...

With how much trouble they were already having with the other carnivorous arthropods, its quite possible that the mammal and reptile builds would never have been able to get off the ground at all if the mantis build had dropped during this patch.

The Carboniferous period was when some plant mains found a respawn exploit and utterly broke the meta for a while.
It was the most glorious thing you'd ever seen.

If you dig in the code a bit you find hints that the devs may have been intending to make the plants playable thus giving competition to both vertibrate and vertibrate animals. Some plants today still have abilities that suggest this such as carnivorous plants however plants were never given a movement ability on the official server and are only playable on one or two modded servers. The devs must have made this update to see if the meta would hold up when players were alowed to spawn as plants and ultimately they chose never to do it.

When land server was first in the game, plants were playable but turned into a A.I. only.
@@lokiaston9770 you can actually play as plants, but just like many abundant animals the majority of them are NPCs because there aren't enough players to be them. You must do certain things to unlock the ability to play as a plant, not sure what they are though because very little information is available. I do know that it only works in PC version unfortunately. From what I know plant gameplay is basically like that of a sponge where you afk and the plants have different stats from animals.

I loved playing the Helicoprion, I was in the first 100 to get it! No one knew how to get it, and there were so many variants no one knew what was the first kind or last! It was an amazing animal, I still wish they never took it away, now I have to play a tiger shark or cookie shark to get close to its play style. Hopefully Tier Zoo does a documentary on it.
