The island Ikaria where my family still lives = has been kept somewhat traditional with the family farms, goats, sheep, veggies, olives. They did not permit big supermarkets to come in, did not permit any kind of factories. People said we wanted to remain poor - but the downside of having money is that you lose the peace, stability and beauty you will then spend all your money trying to get back. Yes, they breathe down your neck, but you know they love you greatly. My father left because my grandfather had left and told my father to come to America and help him make money to send home. But in his soul, my father never really left. Nor have I.
