should find the that went to that left over power connector and put that wire into a pinned spot so you can plug and unplug that while also giving you a cleaner look.
The miata post plastic part can be removed but the stud it goes on is actually smaller than the 6mm post the power wire bolts to. What i do is remove the plastic post piece and grind off the plastic finger on the back that keeps it from turning. Then i re-position it and clock it more towards the engine so the power cable can reach and sit at a better position. That way you dont have to mess and alter the power cable lenght.
Hey Mitch, I'm in the process of doing an alternator upgrade except I'm going with the 150 amp from a early 90's mpv/929. Set up looks the same on my 91'b. Maybe a little finagling but quite close! ✌️✌️
I installed a 105amp delco cs130 on my b2k. It did require changing from the serp style pulley to a v style and I had to make a mount bracket to replace the OEM. I tried several different ways to do it without using the OEM fan pulley but nothing worked well.
What is the gauge of the stock batt wire between the alt and battery? Shouldn't there be concern that the 130 amp output of the Miata alternator is too high for a harness designed for a 60 amp alternator. It should be easy to upgrade to a heavier gauge wire there but I didn't see any mention of that in the video. Otherwise, thanks for a nice production.
It's not a constant 130 amp output, that's only when there is the highest of loads which there isn't on my truck. I will check the gauge and get back to you.
I think even though your truck doesn’t normally have a high amperage demand, if your battery were discharged it could be a problem. Let’s say it was discharged but has barely enough juice to start the engine. In that case the 130 amp alternator would be working hard to bring the battery back up. During that time the charging wire could easily overheating it were under rated for the alternators ability. An ailing battery might also cause an extended high output from the alternator. The alternator doesn’t know the condition of the battery. It only would notice low resistance and then pour on the amperage to fill up what it thinks is a low battery
@@MazdaMitch can't wait. In a pinch I've use my multimeter with a higher amperage wire to check amperage. It's not as accurate but still gives a good ballpark area.
I always thought that it was the GM 1 wire alternator that required the drilling and mounting upside down to work on the 86-93 B Series or maybe that was the Ford Windstar alternator mod??? I can't remember anymore. Great video, Mitch.
Hey Mitch, just wondering how your alternator is holding up. Mine ended up going bad yesterday and it's less than 7 months old. I'm hoping it's just a fluke and not a common problem with these alts. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks bro.
Those alternators are great while they work. But when they fail BNR parts sends you a crusty reman that failed the 2nd day. Then after that they block you on Ebay. BNR Parts has crappy customer service.
Well I hope it lasts a good while I mean the ones that came on the truck lasted over 30 years so hopefully this will last a good while but if it doesn't we'll make a follow-up video.

Thanks for making this vid. I always wondered how difficult it would be to install one of these. Great content

Pretty good idea but I'm glad I left it like it is in case it does fail and I have to send it back they can't say I did anything wrong to it.
Never cease to amaze me Mitch.... Your the MAN💪👍✌️👏👌

Did the alternator work on the truck??

Great vid as always Mitch! Wish my B2200 was a s clean as yours 🔥

Those alternator plugs are also available new on amazon and ebay. They are used on alot of applications, non Mazda as well. I purchased one for $7
Yep I forgot to mention that
Great video by the way
Just curious if you were able to verify that you were getting 130 amps output from the alternator?
I want to verify this, and I am looking to borrow tool that will allow me to see. Soon.

How is the alternator holding up since being installed?
Working like brand new all the time.
great stuff , ever done the rear seals on the diff?
I have a rear end and wanted to do a video on restoring it, but have not made the time yet.
think im going to have to but i might also do a rx7 swap diff

Off topic but have you ever had your coil keep blowing out?
No not at all.

Yes I do believe it's the GM one wire that requires the upside trick.

Its working just fine.
@@MazdaMitch That's great to hear. The seller is going to exchange mine free of charge so that's a relief. Thanks for the quick response. Preciate ya.
From what year Miata is the alternator
The part number is on the screen in the first 20 seconds of the video. I think it's 89-93.
Mitch again you forgot to show us the video of the digital oil gauge 🤔🙈
I need to do a video about it soon.

LoL I thought I was doing something legit with my Bosch 60 amp 😂.
