Nice to see these 2 series saws still going strong, that 262 is a whizzer, i still have my 371xp that i bought new in 1998, only had a coil in all these years
@@mikeroutledge6929 shes a bit like triggers broom, but runs well! I'd love a 371!! Nice! Thanks for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it.
@@walkerscountrylife my 371xp has very low hours, just used for firewood, probably havent run it for 2 years, stored it with aspen in the tank, my brothers 262xp is a 1994 model aand still going strong, that did first thinnings for the first 4 years of its life, love these older saws, i sadly sold my collection of 281,288,268 and 272 a few years back, all minters with low hours, and a mint 2101xp, loved that thing !!
Over here where I am the more you rev and pump the gas. The less you know about what your doing. Apparently that doesn't apply everywhere. 👌 nice video!
You can't avoid it on this saw, the throttle response is so good you just want to experience it more and more. I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm learning every day.
I have a full day in the woods today with most of my saws. I started with MS462 with Hexa, then moved on to the Artur Rodak 550 XP which is so much fun. In the end, I did most of my cutting with Jonsered 2252 with a Stihl 33RM chain on it. I would love to run my 550 against your 262 I bet it would be close.
That saw sounds very snappy 👍 Interesting seeing one with 0.325 chain too; I can’t say that I’ve seen that before. It’s a pain to do with 0.325 chain but square ground would probably make that feel like a 372xp 😂
Intresting that yours is 325 pitch, i think most were 3/8 (my 262 is as are all the others ive ever seen for sale) I rekon yours is perhaps quite an early saw. I recommend stihl micro chisel chain, a nice combination between full chisel and semi chisel like the traditional oregon 75dpx. At work, im often cutting windblown or bucking winch skidded logs and i always like to cut my stumps low, so i usually run the oregon semi chisel and just use a full chisel chain for felling or if im cutting very clean timber. Recently i tried the stihl micro chisel and really really like it, almost as fast as a full chisel but it holds its edge well . I rekon it is worth the slight price premium. The 262 has a very distinct sound, they really do run nicely.
@@paulf2529 good to hear from you again. I've got another full saw that's 3/8, so not sure if this one was swapped at some point. I think this saw is Stihl micro chisel actually now you mention it! I've got quite a lot of 262's in various states.. I keep meaning to build a hot one with the big carb. This one is a hda 87 I think.
@walkerscountrylife A 262 with the big carb would be great. I rekon yours may have had the sprocket fitted from a 254 as these were .325 and would have fitted the two saws having some parts interchangeability. If you ever get to try one, a 254 is an interesting old saw in its own right. The 254xp was the first chainsaw I ran and a stihl 026 the first I ever bought. The 262 was based on the frame of the 254 but with different cylinder, piston and that magic porting!
@walkerscountrylife I will have a look! I'm still hunting for a nice original 254. I used to run a 15" bar on the one I had (provided at the time by my work) and as a limbing saw and for cleaning new plantations it really flew. 262, though, just has that extra power and a real go too saw. If I remember right, we actually skipped the 262 running mostly 254, and a couple of 272 plus if I remember a stihl 066 and a husqvarna 3120. The 3120 was a real dog and was almost alwaysin bits. I farr prefer the 262 to how I remember the 272, I would say the 262 has better chainspeed and the 272 only had the slight edge in big logs.
It's a hot rod - nice saw James 👍👍
Ported from the factory! Hope you're doing well 👍
Really chuckin those chips out!! 👌👌

@@patrickvennard838 that would be very interesting. Would like to compare hexa notes as well, I'm not enjoying filing it!
@@walkerscountrylife I have four good chains left if the files die before the chain I am going to round file it. I don't think it is worth the price.

Have a look back at my vids to the one where I got a big haul of parts..

60cc class looks perfect for this kind (firewood job)...
Some of it is a bit big for 60cc.. a healthy 266 is a thing of joy! Hope it comes right soon!
