I'm half way through All The Pretty Horses. It's my first McCarthy novel. I've really enjoyed it so far. My decision to read McCarthy was nearly 100% due to this channel.
This is exciting! I love Cormac McCarthy and his novels. I can’t wait to read more and knew McCarthy.
Shit, man. Congrats on 20k. I've been watching you for a while and it's great to see you get noticed.
Cormac McCarthy’s posthumous work excites me too.
i never mind posthumous work being released. if anything, i look forward to it, because whether or not the author intended for it to be released, its still another way to connect with your favorite author, and get a glimpse of some of the things they were cooking up. Post-Humous work is a category of its own to be honest. whether it wasnt released due to incompletion, dissatisfaction, insecurities, or politics, we will never know, but that's the gold right there. That's the raw. i have totally different expectations for post-humous work, sometimes none at all. its just another avenue to be explored, to get inside the workings of the mind that created so many other novels that you enjoyed.
I think Confederacy of Dunces is not one of the best posthumous novels ever written. I think it is one of the best novels ever written.
Is that a posthumous novel though? Iiirc, a large part of the authors suicide was because that book didn't take off and he felt like a failure because of it
That was a misquote of the James Franco line. When Franco asked him why he wrote a story about a necrophiliac, McCarthy responded “Oh I don’t know James, probably some dumbass reason.” The question was about the content of the story, not the motivations for expanding it into a novel.
Where’d you see this announcement? Can’t seem to find anything online. Congrats on 20k btw!
McCarthy's official biographer Laurence Gonzales. Don't think any news outlets will pick it up until it has a name and release date.
Glad to see your channel starting to get the much love it deserves congrats Ian much love and respect to you!
I definitely agree with the people criticizing your use of the word “transcendent.” It just feels pretentious and misplaced most times I hear it on this channel 😅
Where the hell is Salingers posthumous work?? Still waiting
Billy Budd by Herman Melville-another excellent posthumous release
I cant wait to read everything they publish.
See, that's all I meant by "try to focus on the good" of Wendigoon's video, haha. Glad you can see the good there. It got a lot of people reading and discussing it. A net win, for sure. Thanks for the vid! Hadn't heard the news of posthumous work.
I don't care if it's a cash grab, I want as much Cormac McCarthy that I can get my hands on. I'm especially hopeful for more of his scientific writings to be published, as I am a fan of his Kuekele Problem essay.
I’m glad we’re getting more releases. I liked The Passenger and Stella Maris, but they left me feeling underwhelmed.
Whaaat! Heard it here first man! Thanxs
There is always an important reason for publishing famous author's posthumous material: money.
posthumous is pronounced 'pahsthyemmus' not post-hume-ous
Why is wendigoon catching strays 😂
I wish I liked his last two novels. I just didn’t get it. I’m gonna give them another read. I missed something.
Do it. Some of his best work.
@@tenthletter2678 I will. I hope I was wrong.
🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏👏
20k!!
Are you testing us? As I Lay Dying wasnt McCarthy you silly goose!
He wrote a screenplay for it in the late 1970s for a movie that never was shot.
@@WriteConscious ah ok
I'm excited for his posthumous works. He's one of the greatest thinkers and writers ever. I don't think there is anything to worry about.
And I smiled when you mentioned Kafka's The Trial. I binge read it over a week during the spring when I had a respiratory infection. That was one of the most love/hate, frustrating/rewarding stories I've read.
Also, I think the word transcend can sound elitist or pretentious because most people associate it with "surpass" but the first definition from Oxford is:
"Be or go beyond the range or limits of (something abstract, typically a conceptual field or division)."
Which is the way I think you intend it, pushing past concepts and questioning everything.
Whats your source for this info?

It's okay. We all mispronounce words. Though if you were ever gonna delete and re-upload, I wouldn't blame ya for redoing this video.
Why take a shot at Wendigoon?
he's talked about it in a few of his past videos. Basically pseudo -high level analysis steering people in the wrong direction.
@@rickysrockinreviewsWhat was the direction he was steering people and how was it wrong if I may ask?
For a guy that "talks for a living" you really ought to learn how to correctly pronounce posthumous.
How do you pronounce it?
🤡 🤡 🤡 🤡 🤡
@@Nova-fh2et PAW-STOOM-UHS
I say it more like Poss-Tyoo-Muss, but maybe that's a regional thing. Definitely not post-hue-muss though
@@christophechalaye2361 I'd say paw-shtoo-mus with a bit of an "h" in there (maybe it should be paw-chtoo-mus?)
I completely agree Ian. Releasing an author’s material after their death is hardly a ‘cheapening’ of their legacy it is a part of his legacy. Whether or not McCarthy intended for these works to be published after his death or not is irrelevant, he wrote them and what a waste it would be to not have them come to light for the sake of assuaging some readers’ feelings that post mortem material is a money grab. To them I would say, if you feel this way then don’t buy it, it’s that simple. Everyone is free to honor his legacy as they see fit.
What kind of cancer did McCarthy have?
Unknown at this time.
@@WriteConscious Either way, I'm stoked a new McCarthy novel is coming out.
