Been in Gospel music since I was a little fella. The Inspirations, The Kingsmen, The Happy Goodman’s, The Dixie Echoes, The Centurions and a host of others inspired me to sing Gospel music. Dales lead is unparalleled as far as I’m concerned. They were awesome with this combination of singers. Beautiful song! They did it as good as I’ve ever heard.
I heard John Conlee sing this last night on an episode of Country Family Reunion, Old Time Gospel. Bill Anderson was asking Bill Mack about it and Mr. Mack said if Bill Anderson had not 'found' Connie Smith, this song might never have been recorded. Mr. Mack brought it to the attention of Connie Smith, who loved it and made several calls. He also mentioned the Oakridge Boys and George Hamilton IV had recorded it, among many others, including John Conlee, who, as I stated sand it on that recording. Makes me happy that I love old time Gospel music and good country music. Such legends.
Dale was one of the finest lead singers I ever heard. I loved his clear voice. Larry Ford, the tenor had and still has a great solo voice. Ken Turner is a fine bass and a great guy to talk with.
Dean Adkins I can just imagine all the songs he sang, as he plowed the fields on his farm with his old mule! That is where his neighbor found him, I'm sure he was holding to that nail scarred hand!!! 😭😭❤❤
