  • As Max Grant basks in the warm Australian sun, we're getting our first taste of winter. Only three days before I was working outside with no jacket on and no snow on the ground.

Manitoba is a big place/small world. If you don't know someone you probably know someone who does, especially if they live in the northern half of the province.

Beats me why we ever bothered to settle over your side of the pond. The weather has such extremes compared to good old blighty. 😆

You're not wrong about the extremes. While it wasn't that cold during this drive (-4 C) we will likely get a few days of -40 C this winter. Last summer we had a few days of 37 C with high humidity. The worst times of the year are the transition periods, when you're not used to the cold or the heat. The good part about this area is the sunshine. We get lots of sunny days all year round. I find 4 or 5 days in a row of cloudy weather to be worse than -40 C.

@@hmw-ms3tx in good old London town it rarely goes less than 0 or more than 30. As for rain, we do get some but nothing like the bad press would have you believe. Snow, maybe a couple of days a winter. Much more civilised than certain countries. 😉

Yup, every mile is two in winter! It’ll be plus 3 by Monday.
    Cheers

And as always there are two miles of ditch for every mile of road. The big problem is when the drifting snow makes the ditches level with the road and you can't tell where the road ends and the ditch begins.

Goodness, what a hassle. I suppose we all have environmental challenges where we live. We get many days a year around 118°F, but no snow. The summer here is the worst 8-months of the year. No matter what you do, it’s too hot to stand, if you leave a tool in the sun it will burn you severely after just a minute. The heat breaks your car windows, ruins all plastics quickly, melts most rubber products, and even softens the roads so that you leave tire tracks in the asphalt. Good luck, and try to stay safe.

I would rather have the cold than the heat. Where are you from that it gets that hot in the summer?

@@hmw-ms3tx Phoenix, Arizona. I am not sure whether I would rather the heat or the cold, I only lived in a colder place briefly, nothing like where you are, but colder than Phoenix. I grew up in the heat, so that’s what I know. It’s not so bad, I can grow vegetables all year, but my shop can be too hot to work in many days during the summer.

@@someguy1508 Back in 1987 I stayed in Phoenix. It was in March and ironically it was quite cold and rainy. We were there to go to the Caterpillar proving grounds during Conexpo 87, which was being held in Las Vegas. I have a large garden behind my shop. I've always wondered about growing vegetables in places where it is hot all year. If you pull a few carrots out of the ground can you immediately replant seeds in the same place and have carrots again a few months later?

Spoiled! Powered shop door on remote. Now you just need the automatic "Hoity Toity" gate. 😋
It's getting cold here as well, hopefully snow will come soon.

An automatic gate would be very nice. Especially on days like this.

Yikes…I am NOT A snow person…curious is the shop heated when u drive in or how long to you get to a work environment temp…

The shop is heated all winter with natural gas. I have programmable thermostats that set back at the end of the day and turn up in the morning. If you have plumbing in a building up here you need heat as most of the winter is well below freezing and the pipes would freeze. Ken
