    Crochet is so much faster (and easier) but you gotta admit nothing looks as clean as a knit beanie. I got tired of the bumpy look and feel of crochet so I converted.

    That was so funny, the time lapse had me laughing. I never learned crochet but now I want to. Those were some adorable beanies.

    I have a friend who crochets, and we’ve discussed these issues. Crochet binds off each stitch, which is one reason why it uses more yarn. Also, each crochet stitch is larger than a knitted stitch with the same gauge hook/needle, so each row of crochet takes more “vertical” room than each row of knitting. Because if this, you can crochet the hat faster.
    All this said, I’m impressed with both your times!

    That answers my question😂😂 I'll learn crochet. Even though in garments I love the look of knit stiches but damn if it takes this long to knit stitch my anxiety would kill me

    I wonder, if you crochet using only the slip stitch, how the speed would compare with knitting. It seems the height of a row of knitting is closer to a row of slip stitch. Maybe for a round 3 video?

      hmmm. good question.

  • @coldfusionmusical

    Oh mine, is knitting really that slow? I think it would take a super speed knitter to beat a crocheter.
    Anyway, I'm a knitter, a knitting-only folk, my crochet is hopeless, when I see something crocheted that I like I'd try to do it with knitting, if I can't I'll let my mum do the job, she's crochet-only, the total opposite of me, but we compliment each other. Lol 🤣😂😅

      Thanks for watching! We have another race video where we use the same size hook/needle. It seems to take about the same amount of time for each stitch, but the crochet stitches are bigger so I ended up with a larger cowl on that race. haha! It's fun:)

    Great video... I laughed really hard... Wondering what stitch you used for crocheting the hat? Is it SC in the back loop? I really like it. Good job on the knitting as well. I have a love hate relationship with knitting, love the neat look of it, but hate how long it takes.

    Great video, very funny and educational!
    Q1: I think American/English knitting is slower than crocheting because you have to switch your hand position to wrap the yarn over the needle and create the loop. In crochet, your left hand supports the weight of your project, sneakily holding your yarn as well so it's easy to maneuver the hook to pick up the yarn. I'm curious how Continental knitting would compare to crocheting because they hold the yarn in similar fashions.
    Q2: I think crocheting takes more yarn because you make two new loops per stitch, but knitting uses only one loop per stitch. Another way to think of it is that crocheting uses more yarn to secure each stitch after you make a loop so they don't unravel, but knitting uses needles to secure the stitches instead of yarn.

      @thefireflyhookmeetselleins3869  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! I think you are right on all points. I wonder if crochet would win handily in a race where we make the same SIZE cowl! It's just so fun to do these videos!

    I'm just doing some research about crocheting vs knitting and it seems like the crotchet stitches are simpler? the knit hat has a cute pattern and the crotchet has a lot of spaces or bigger/wider stitches?? I don't know but I like the close together stitches of the knit hat. Question: Can you do that same pattern with the crochet as the knit hat?
