To be honest with you, out of all the beach fishing channels I watch, yours is simply the best. You explain in easy detail and don`t come across smug. Great guys , keep up the good work.
Great stuff. 48 years old and completely new to this stuff. Your video is superb and you come across as a great guy who really seems to enjoy passing knowledge. Thank you.
So great to see Aldeburgh beach, where we fished 6 years ago on our first trip home from Australia after 36 years absence. Bringing a 12ft telescopic rod each (they just fitted across ways in our cases) egg beater reels and a couple of star sinkers. Yes we caught fish, almost the same spot you were fishing in the video, with very limited gear. Whiting, of course, but a couple of nice coddling, and dog fish. which we found delicious to eat. Love your video's (recommended by brother in law) and will enjoy following your fishing exploits in and around our old fishing grounds from 50 plus years ago. Cheers and Beers from the land down under.
Thanks for watching Mo and for taking the time to drop us a comment! 😊 Nice to hear your stories too - although I'm pretty sure you have some much better beach fishing where you are now! 😂
As a fisherman i love learning new techniques to add to my own. This video showed me something new and gave some very helpful tips to make the most out of my time. Ive always wanted to have the tent out with a little fire going all while fishing frome shore. You make me wanna do it even more now. Thank you for the video and sharing.
Thanks for the kind comments Alex and for taking the time to post them! Am glad it inspired you to get out there and have a go! If you do, be lucky and tight lines! :-) Cheers Chris.
With so much negativity in the World, it's just good to watch such peaceful things like this. Well presented and good luck in the future both fishing and everything else, your a good lad.
Thanks for the great vid, as a new angler I found some of the tips invaluable and will be putting them to good use the next time I'm out. I tend to fish around Blackpool and Fleetwood and since starting last year I can't get enough of it! Keep the awesome vids coming :)
Thanks Stephen, so glad you enjoyed the videos and that you found them useful! Also thanks for taking the time to comment, its always nice to hear feedback from people, especially positive stuff, it makes it all worth while! :-) Good luck with your fishing and of course...tight lines and be lucky! :-)
Informative and interesting watch . Starting going beach fishing again after a long break , its always a nice get away from everything. Be nice to catch a cod !!! we used to catch loads back in the day 🐟🐟👍👍
"All whittinged out". I love it! Great video, enjoyed it very much. Its always so interesting to see how folks from other countries fish the beaches. I'm from Oregon, USA, and when I fish the surf I wade out into the breakers about waist high in my waders and cast 60 to 70 yards out into the waves. We catch 2 to 3 pound perch all day long and its great fun. Like you, most of the fish are caught during the last couple hours of the incoming tide. Thanks for the great video, I love your accent, be well and fish on! Mark in Oregon
Hi Mark Abolofia thanks for the kind comments and for taking the time to post them, especially from all the way over in the USA! Glad you enjoyed the video. I'm guessing where you are in the USA there are a few more fish around and that the weather is slightly better, certainly warmer, especially if you are wading out! Hope you have been catching a few, happy new year, be lucky and of course tight lines!!! Cheers Chris.
Fantastic video, thank you for sharing. This is what shore sea fishing is all about, including not catching the target species! I have visited Dungeness 5 times this winter and I had no better luck. I am still to catch my first one. However I know my effort will be rewarded one day. Other than that the organisation, the double patting, etc is all very important to me too so I really enjoyed this video. Bring on part 2! Cheers, Luis
Thanks so much for the kind comments and for taking the time to post! Yeah I know what you mean about not catching the target species!!! Haha! There just doesn't seem to be many Codling at all, even some of the boats are struggling round our way. Glad you found it useful too, Part Two should hopefully be up in the next couple of hours!
The best sea fishing vlog I have ever seen made me want to go cod fishing down the Humber next week helpful informative enjoyable interesting thank you so much grazie ciao
Great video, I'm a complete beginner, haven't even been out with my rod yet as I'm still reading and learning the basics. This video helped a lot, can't wait to watch the rest.
Thanks Danny P glad you enjoyed the video and that you found it useful! Thanks for taking the time to comment to, it means alot! We should be out carrying on with our quest in the next week or so, so keep your eyes peeled! :-) Tight lines and be lucky, Cheers Chris.
Great job Jeff Butler and From The Waters Edge TV. I love it how you had an intelligent and civilized discussion; it is so nice to see this as opposed to all the trolls that are commenting on fishing videos. It is a very good first video. It’s not easy to make these videos. Keep up the good work. Tight lines and cheers from Canada.
Hi Attila Farkas nice to read your comment all the way from Canada and thanks for taking the time to say hello!! :-) Glad you enjoyed it and hope you've managed to watch a few of our more recent video's too, we also have lots more on the way. Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Well done and thank you for posting this video. Very good tip with regards to having a baited rig ready to go to reduce the time you are not fishing. Put that one in my bag of tricks. Lots of good info in general. I hope to use this info this year on the far side of the Atlantic. Do you ever light tackle fish for whiting? Makes the most of small fish when they are all that is biting. The multiplier reel and casting rod set up you are using for cod looks similar to what surf anglers in the USA use when bait fishing for Red Drum, Black Drum, and Stripers in the surf. I have no experience with cod fishing in the surf. Would a float near the hook bait, to raise it off the bottom, reduce the whiting bite, or just take it out of the strike zone altogether?
Hi John Pendleton first of all, thank you for the kind comments and for taking the time to post them, it's much appreciated. Glad you enjoyed the video! Nice to hear from you from so far away too!!! We don't really fish too much for Whiting, if we could fish light I guess we perhaps would fish for them more, but a lot the time the sea state, tides and conditions don't really allow light tackle. We normally need a minimum of 4oz of lead and need to cast 50+ yards etc If they could be caught on light tackle, then they would definitely be more sporting! The multiplier reels are probably the same!! Penn 525 MAGs? They are nice bits of kit! :-) I guess a float would work, and is sometimes used to keep the bait away from Crabs, but I'm always concerned this could have a negative effect. Might be worth experimenting with!!! Anyway, thanks once again, I hope your fishing is going well?! I hope bigger fish are more plentiful in your waters! Tight lines Cheers Chris
From The Waters Edge TV Thanks for the reply. I see what you mean. If the whiting will not get any closer, then no way to cast a light rig to them, or hold the bottom in a strong current. Sometimes conditions here will allow 2-3 oz of lead and shorter casts, so a lighter rig and tackle will do for whiting, croaker, pompano, and similar small fish, especially at night along sand beaches. Tight lines!
Ive not been sea fishing for 20 years. Nice to see not much has changed, Whiting still as greedy as ever. Looks like a few changes on the end tackle too. Brought back some great memories
Thanks David! Glad you enjoyed the video mate, thanks for taking the time to comment too :-) Yeah, a few things will have changed, mainly the lack of fish now I guess too!!!! Fingers crossed we'll get a few Codling on camera before the winters out though.
Thanks for the kind comments Damo and for taking the time to post them, it means alot. Glad you enjoyed the video, hope your fishing is going well! :-) Tight lines, cheers Chris.
You clearly put a lot of effort into the video and it made for a good watch. I was thinking of giving beach fishing a try but after seeing this I doubt I'd have the patience for it, think I'd be bored after an hour or so. I'm now adding beach fishing to my list of the 'most boring fishing methods' along with carp & fly.
I really enjoyed that, Thank You.. Cant wait to get stuck in again, living over in OZ for nearly 9 years has done my head in, Home to Ireland in 5 weeks, Fly Fishing for Salmon, and Beach Fishing for Cod, BRING IT
Thanks Chris, indeed as far as Salmon Fishing, I've brand new Custom built BURKHEIMER Fly Rod to Welcome me back Home, now to figure which Beach set up :) Your very informative with your Videos, very helpful, I've Fished Beach, Rock, Boat all my Life, 41 years old :) but Ive picked a few things from You to which Im very grateful :) Keep up the great work, i just finished video 3 and off to sleep now, but I look forward in the morning to catch up again.. Best, Clive
I’m obsessed with fishing but the one I’ve never tried is beach fishing. I lived in San Diego for a couple. All I did was lake and pier fish. I just never thought it would be productive. I’m back in my stomping grounds now Colorado. Good video brother
Thanks Alex, glad you enjoyed it! Nice to hear from you all the way over in the US too! Hope you've been catching a few fish. Tight lines and be lucky. :-)
Hey Chris good video I found your channel a few months ago and have been catching up on your vids, i had all my fishing gear nicked out the shed about 3yrs ago , you have inspired me to buy some more kit and get sea fishing, pleased to say plenty of whiting a few flats, dogfish and 1 nice codling. Looking forward to the winter fishing and some bigger fish. Not to far from you we fish off Gorleston the river there is fast flowing and there's always a cod or two being caught there.
+grey702 Rule Number one Never leave your fishing gear in a shed even if it's locked up Rule Number two make room in side the house even if it means your bedroom under the bed
Thanks for the kind comments mate! It's just getting time, our video's take a long time to film and edit and with family/work etc it can be hard. We'll definetely have some new beach fishing video's coming this spring and summer though. ;-)
Ahah yes you replied what a bro, honestly mate please keep em coming watching your videos is inspiraring to say the least and really helps with the down days when there isn't much to do, also the accent you have and the way you talk and word things really takes it to another level, almost feel like I know you even tho we never met lol
hello, i liked your video and learned a lot from you, i own a boat here in KUWAIT, and i usually do boat fishing KUWAITI style ( just the mono line ) no Reel and Rod ! , but sometimes i can't go on the boat due to the weather conditions, so i do some surf or beach fishing, it's the first time i see this break away sinker, i liked it and i think you used the perfect Rig.. good job on the video and the brilliant set up .. watching part 2 now.. good luck
Hi Ammar Al-Belushi nice to hear from you all the way over in Kuwait! Hope you are well and that the fishing is good!! Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for leaving us a comment, especially a positive one, it's much appreciated! Tight lines, cheers.
Thanks for the kind comments Jamie, glad you're enjoying the channel! We should have lots more video's to come this year :-) Hope your fishing is going well, tight lines, cheers Chris.
Hi sonofharris thank you very much for the kind comments and for taking the time to post them, it's very much appreciated. I'm glad you find the video both interesting and informative! Hopefully it won't be too long now before we can carry on our Cod quest, hopefully with better results this year! :-) Tight lines, cheers Chris
Thanks Ollie! Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! :-) Good luck with your fishing tomorrow, let us know how you get on!
love the idea of the pennel rig i mainly do coarse fishing now on the yorkshire rivers im gonna try the pennel rig for carp and barbel and when i go back down home to bristol ill try this rig on the bristol channel.
I reckon it'll work well on the Bristol Channel +Simon Clark however don't use it for Carp and Barbel, there's no need and not something that should be done.
Nothing but praise for a great introduction video from me too. Seen and done it all before while regularly match fishing the Yorkshire coast many years ago:-) I´ve just one suggestion that might help you to catch cod. Try casting at least one rod out different distances until you come beyond the whiting. There just might be cod at the other side, perhaps even driving them in.
Thanks very much for the kind comments and for taking the time to drop us a message, it's very much appreciated! :-) Thanks for the tip too, I think some of the time around our coast there's simply Whiting everywhere!!! Haha! Fingers crossed we should be out this weekend filming part 3! Hope you are having more fish in Yorkshire, tight lines and be lucky! Cheers Chris
Hi mate, can I offer a little advice. Rather than turn up your mags at the onset of darkness cast out in daylight, then reel in spooling the line rapidly left to right for several turns before going back to cotton reel fashion. Then in the dark watch the line coming off the reel, when it suddenly whips back and forth across the spool you know its time to thumb it. Cheers Howard.
good stuff, you may like to try the fg knot.dont have to worry about cutting your finger,or placing the leader knot on the side of your spool.tight lines
cheers, I enjoyed your video, and guess I never heard anyone with your accent, think I got more delight in the sound of your voice than your fishing fun, God bless be ready for the coming of the Lord .
You welcome, did ya know that you can become a Fisher of men? You love to catch fish, but it's a lot more exsighting to catch men for the kingdom of heaven, to turn them from the deep dark ways of the ocean, unto the marvelous light of his word. Time will come he will cast a great net and gather in of every kind of people, and sit and separate them the good from the bad, the good will be received but the evil will be cast away, hope you understand, to serve the Lord.
Howdy man , great information and you have the best type of weight l have ever seen man ! Also that little angle thing to make your hooks get out of the way ! So cool . Thank you . Man !
Brilliant video dude, just getting back into Sea fishing and will be targeting beaches rather than Piers. Any rods and reel you guys recommend for mainly use for Bass and Cod fishing. Cheers for videos loving it
Thanks for the kind comments Miguel, glad you enjoyed the video! :-) If you are looking for multiplier reels I like the Penn 525 Mag 2's, if you're looking at a fixed spool something by Penn, Daiwa or Shimano would be very good. Rod wise Greys, Daiwa, Penn, Sonik all make some nice models. Hope that helps and good luck with the coming Cod fishing season! :-)
I was night fishing of hayling last week for two hours strait after high tide I was bringing in those little whitening had about 15! Nothing else but them lol popped down the next day with the leftover bait in the day no whitening just one 2lbs plaice lol still they make good sport though might try with a small rod and 5lbs line just for the fun haha
Like this lad presenting. Can we have more on beach fishing on how to cast and unhook fish as I'm just starting out and intending to put them back safe. And how to unhook bigger fish like rays and the like.
Hi Alan, thank you for the kind comments and feedback, it's always nice to hear! I'm glad you enjoyed my presenting skills! We've just added a new sea fishing video, and will have lots more to come in future. I'm sure we can touch on some of the area's you mentioned too! :-) We'll see what we can do.
Oh by the way, I like ur set up, the tent fishing gear.nice and neat without any worries. Also I never saw or heard of that snag and released mechanism. Wow that pretty ingenious mate.
Fantastic video as per usual. I was just wondering, I use same rigs too most of the time over here in Ireland for mainly bass & cod, pulley & pennel, however, I tend to use a baitstopper with sequin on as there does be a strong surf most of the time. I noticed that you didn't use one. I was wondering is there any reason? Do you not find the bait moving up the line by not using a stopper? Keep up the great work & happy fishing.
Thanks Jonathan, glad you enjoyed it! :-) I'd use a sequin and bait stop if I was using a single hook, but with a pennel rig there's no need, the second hook (top hook) stops the bait flying up the hook length. Hope your fishing is going well, cheers Chris.
Thanks chris jones glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment :-) Good luck with your fishing, hope your catching a few, tight lines, cheers Chris.
Yes Ian it's mono to mono. I'm not sure of the actual name of the knot, I always just refer to it as a shock leader knot. Am sure if you google it or search it on here there'll be lots of results come up.
Great channel and video, especially to a novice! 2 questions, which is better (seeing as ive never fished yet) a multiplier or fixed spool reel? (im only going to beach casting) and at 19.45 you changed the rig for another baited one, why did you change it? is the bait too old by then and after a time change it anyway or had the bait just come off the hook?
Thanks for the kind comments Dave, glad you are enjoying the video's. A fixed spool will be far better if you're only just stating out, you'll get alot less problems with them! Multipliers can sometimes be a pain, especially at night if you get an over-run. I swapped the rig for a duplicate one that was already baited, I like to have a spare baited and on the tripod so I don't waste fishing time. :-) Sometimes it can take a good few mins to prepare a nice bait so I like to have one or two ready I can just clip on. Hope that helps.
Hi Dave, if you click the tackle box link in the video description you'll see a list of all the bits I like to use. The shelter is an old John Holden beach buddy. That exact model isn't made anymore but a new upgraded model is. Hope that helps. Cheers Chris.
What Length of Shock Leader is best to use, lets say 14' Beachcaster Rod, and how do you judge it? I have never used the Rig you do, but I will, used something similar but i noticed on the hook end, the free - moving hook down to the Bottom hook, you have 2 knots, just for making the bait shorter/longer i presume? Thanks for the Tips
Hi Clive, you need to ensure you have a good few turns of shock leader on your reel and all the way through your rod when ready to cast. The shock leader knot must be on your reel when casting if not it's completely pointless, the leader if there to take the impact of the cast. You should also use around 10lb of leader for every 1oz of lead you are using... so 5oz lead, 50lb leader. etc
Great video am fishing sea trout over here on the west coast of Ireland there great sport hoping to try the bass this year...what kind of knot do you use for the shock leader knot cheers?
I went for my first time ever two days ago on the Walton pier, I caught 1 legal whiting and a few others like a dab and a small cod. My friend also caught a dog fish!
From The Waters Edge TV I was just wondering, I bought a rod that is 9ft I think, I used it to fish on the pier and I was wondering if it would be suitable to fish in the marina with the same rod.
Thanks Jez! Glad you enjoyed it, should have some more to come in next few weeks, then it'll be onto the Bass and Smoothound in the spring and summer! :-)
Where have all the cod gone ??? In the sixties you could fill a bin bag with some lovely cod now only the odd few whiting and the occasional tiny codling ahhh happy days
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it! The reels are Penn 525 Mag 2's and in my opinion are very good, they've served me well. :-) They've been superseeded now though, I believe there's a MAG3 and possibly even a MAG4 out!
From The Waters Edge TV cheers mate. That'll be my next buy I think as my reels are looking tatty and about 20 year old. Like a couple of matching. I'll look up a few reviews on TH-cam 👍
Hi Mark, glad you're enjoying the video's and thanks for taking the time to comment. I'm not too familiar with the Kent coastline I'm afraid. Perhaps try one of the sea fishing forums, World Sea Fishing is very good. Hope that helps!
i guess, that kind of experience is more realistic than all fishing tutorials seen. you target and you get something different. bringing 1000 dollars material to the beach, saying... here in ireland a fresh lug is a euro or two, if you do not dig it out yourself... you put on a 5 euro bait and then a kid of cheeky fish snaps it. --> epic. btw. in germany the cods are also that small as the small coalfish, pollacks whitings seen. and here in ireland as well. its no real shortage, its just they might be somewhere else...(norway or island, 40 m deep, or so...)anyway.... going out 30 years ago on a boat, everyone picked a 7 pounder or more... 70 cm each, some did 30 or so of the cods... now we have adapted to the shore angeling scene species, offering everything but the pure filet steak meat fish dish.... therefore you spend lots of frogs on teasers, lures, worms and blink blink, guess what: you are the targeted fish! har har har. the much i really appreciate the noble systems and technical clues... i turned to stones as weight. these waters here are tackle graveyards... the lead is not good and actually pretty poisonous... and stone is everywhere. a free line in the pull? well. just fixing it with a simple sling should do it. that has not turned out to cause any trouble. if really a 2 pounder picks my bait, he can raise a fixed 70 g stone with ease.. but its cute, neat and respectful how you treat even the small creatures.. thats the right spirit. also not seen everywhere anymore... sometimes i miss a little ethics course on how to treat creature. if i see professional fishermen, fishing industry, and even sometimes also anglers here fishing.... often my heart bleeds! great didactics, btw. thx.
Thanks Julius, glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you for taking the time to comment too, it's much appreciated. Hopefully we'll have a new sea fishing video up in the next few weeks :-)
Hi mate, glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for taking the time to comment to! It was me doing the presenting, so it's nice to hear some kind feedback! We should have lots more sea video's to come... now the weathers perked up a little!!! Haha! Tight lines, chris.
Thanks Joe, nice to hear from you all the way over in New Zealand! Interesting what you say about the full moon, you're not the first person who I've spoken to who's mentioned this theory!
@@FromTheWatersEdgeTV i have kept a fishing diary since 1992, i record the day, date, time of tide, size of tide, and phase of the moon. And in the last few years moon rise and set. I record what i caught, by what method etc. The moon rise was the last piece of the puzzle. When the moon is in the sky during the day i have seldom had great fishing, even though fishing can be great a couple of days after new and full moon. The only exception is when the moon first rises as it did the other day around 1.45 in the hauraki gulf on Sunday the fish fed ravenously. The same thing happened the following day an hour later. On Tuesday its a full moon with the moon on your side of the world during the day so i will be out in my boat using slow jigs for snapper, and im pretty confident of a good result.
Thanks for the kind comments +QUARTERBAT we try and keep the video's like that if we can :-) Glad you enjoyed it and thanks once again. Hope your fishing is going well. Tight lines, cheers Chris. :-)
Such a good channel but those multipliers look a bad pain. Having to do your own line lay and just watch the reel - just doesn’t look ideal. What are the advantages? (Not a dig! Just curious)
Thanks for watching Tom and for the kind comments! 😊 The multipliers without a level wind cast further, the level wind slows the spool down - line can only peel off as quickly as the level wind can go. (They do take a bit of getting used to though.)
Hi mate, we fished from around 2 o'clock in the afternoon to around 9.00 o'clock in the evening. As we fished cocktail baits it's hard to say, but I would guess the Lugworm! Hope this helps.
Next time I decide I want a portion of chips I'll bring a rod along then, I love Aldeburgh chippy, never realised it was good for cod fishing! Actually though I've never had any luck sea fishing, rivers and lakes are a lot easier!
William Hyll Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! Hopefully this year we'll be able to finish the series off with some nice Cod from the shore… thats the plan anyway!!! :-)
Excellent video. It was well presented and thought out. The camera work was also really good, although it was a shame that you were limited by your lack of a spare battery. Really looking forward to seeing part 2, where you hopefully catch your Cod. I fish the English channel from Sussex and like yourself am more often than not "Whitinged out" (greedy sods). Tight lines >
Hi Rob Lusted thank you for the kind comments, glad you enjoyed the video. We have around 5 parts of the Cod quest uploaded, you can see them on our channel, however don't expect any fireworks! Haha. It's still on going too, however the vast amount of sprats has killed sport at the moment. We did get out and film a Flatfish video on Friday, which should hopefully be online next week. Hope you fishing is going well and that your not getting 'Whitinged out' too much!!! Haha. Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Nice one +Robert Obrien glad you enjoyed it and thanks for dropping us a comment! :-) Good luck with your fishing, hope you manage a few! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Just noticed the clip on light you used there, that looks great quality, do you know if that type can be got online?? Very hard to get big enough clips and lights for the beach rods.. Great job on the video's by the way, keep up the good work!
Hi ***** they are Starlite Clip-on Nite Lites (XL) I believe! I purchased them from Angling Direct. Thanks for the comments, glad you enjoy the videos! :-)
Hi dave0504 you need to make sure that the shock leader is longer than the rod and that when you cast you still have a good few turns of it on your reel. So normally I guess, to be safe, that I make my shock leader twice as long as the rod.
Thanks Stuart Thompson glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment :-) I know what you mean, the quest continues tho!!! Good luck with your fishing and of course, tight lines, cheers Chris.
I agree, really good commentary talking about tide, fish behaviour and bait's and tackle to use, and his respect for the fish which all went back safely.
Thanks Paul! I know, it's been a terrible year... I don't know why... over fishing (there simply isn't the number of fish out there). The fact that the sea temperatures have remained warmer than normal.... I honestly don't know tho! Fingers crossed the spring/summer fishing is better. Cheers Chris.
for what its worth, we are experiencing the same situation here in Florida....the water temperatures are higher then normal and fish are adjusting by feeding very early and late....so your fishing in the dark, very weird......
Cheers +The Vintage Sloth glad you enjoyed the video. I'm using Greys GRX-s beach rods and Penn 525 MAG 2 reels. There's a link to my tackle box in the video description, hope that helps.
Hi Lucan, I use Greys GRX-s Rods and Penn 525 Mag II reels. If you click the link in the video description there is a tackle list. Hope that answers you question :-) Glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for taking the time to comment. Tight lines.
Thanks Dave! Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to drop us a comment, especially a positive one! :-) Part two should follow this week!
Hello from Canada. I’ve had some friends come over from England Manchester area to fish carp. They were talking about individual swims and I noticed some polls on the beach with the red looking sign on it is that a swim between poles. What is the cost for fishing as you are doing it.Eg. License, swims fee etc. Just found your channel like what I’m seeing and I have become a subscriber. Good luck mate.
Thanks Ricky! Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment. :-) Ummmm not too sure, hopefully we'll try and get another session in before Christmas, if not just after!
These videos are worth their weight in gold to us new fisherman. So brilliantly concise and well presented. I can’t thank you enough
Thanks for the kind comments Simon, glad you're enjoying the videos. :-)
Thank you.
Thanks for watching Sim and for the kind comments! 😊 Hopefully I should be back out on the beaches again soon!

Thanks for watching Mo and for taking the time to drop us a comment! 😊 Nice to hear your stories too - although I'm pretty sure you have some much better beach fishing where you are now! 😂
As an absolute beginner who seeks intelligent advice, I thank you for your excellent series.
Thanks for the kind comments Richard, glad you enjoyed the video and found it useful. :-)
What a great video. I'm getting back into beach fishing after a long break. Perfect info thanks.
As a fisherman i love learning new techniques to add to my own. This video showed me something new and gave some very helpful tips to make the most out of my time. Ive always wanted to have the tent out with a little fire going all while fishing frome shore. You make me wanna do it even more now. Thank you for the video and sharing.

With so much negativity in the World, it's just good to watch such peaceful things like this. Well presented and good luck in the future both fishing and everything else, your a good lad.
Thanks for the kind comments Nelson and for taking the time to post them. :-) Hope you're fishing is going well!
Be nice to catch a cod !!! we used to catch loads back in the day 🐟🐟👍👍
Thanks Adrian! 😊 We should be back on the beach again soon.
Cheers,
Luis
Thanks so much for the kind comments and for taking the time to post! Yeah I know what you mean about not catching the target species!!! Haha! There just doesn't seem to be many Codling at all, even some of the boats are struggling round our way. Glad you found it useful too, Part Two should hopefully be up in the next couple of hours!
Great video - really enjoyed it, and learned a lot in the process... Thanks!
Cheers Mark, glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful! :-)
The best sea fishing vlog I have ever seen made me want to go cod fishing down the Humber next week helpful informative enjoyable interesting thank you so much grazie ciao
No worries mate! Good luck with your fishing. :-)
I enjoyed your video. It's nice to see things aren't too different on the other side of the pond. Tight lines.
Cheers mate, thanks for taking the time to drop us a comment too!
I guess a float would work, and is sometimes used to keep the bait away from Crabs, but I'm always concerned this could have a negative effect. Might be worth experimenting with!!!
Anyway, thanks once again, I hope your fishing is going well?! I hope bigger fish are more plentiful in your waters!
Tight lines
Cheers Chris
From The Waters Edge TV Thanks for the reply. I see what you mean. If the whiting will not get any closer, then no way to cast a light rig to them, or hold the bottom in a strong current. Sometimes conditions here will allow 2-3 oz of lead and shorter casts, so a lighter rig and tackle will do for whiting, croaker, pompano, and similar small fish, especially at night along sand beaches. Tight lines!
Ive not been sea fishing for 20 years. Nice to see not much has changed,
Whiting still as greedy as ever. Looks like a few changes on the end tackle too.
Brought back some great memories
Thanks David! Glad you enjoyed the video mate, thanks for taking the time to comment too :-) Yeah, a few things will have changed, mainly the lack of fish now I guess too!!!! Fingers crossed we'll get a few Codling on camera before the winters out though.
this is the best "how to do" video I came across in last 5 years. Thankyou
I'm now adding beach fishing to my list of the 'most boring fishing methods' along with carp & fly.
fly? fly fishing? most boring method? oooookay!
i take it you use a net, something that requires no real skill or time and and effort,
andrew smyth Nope, lure fishing is my thing.
Well presented, informative and honest. I like this, be proud. Shared
Thanks Beowulf 59 :-)
I really enjoyed that, Thank You.. Cant wait to get stuck in again, living over in OZ for nearly 9 years has done my head in, Home to Ireland in 5 weeks, Fly Fishing for Salmon, and Beach Fishing for Cod, BRING IT
Cheers Clive. Thanks for the kind comments, glad you enjoyed the video. Good luck with your fishing on your return too! :-) Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Thanks Chris, indeed as far as Salmon Fishing, I've brand new Custom built BURKHEIMER Fly Rod to Welcome me back Home, now to figure which Beach set up :)
Your very informative with your Videos, very helpful, I've Fished Beach, Rock, Boat all my Life, 41 years old :) but Ive picked a few things from You to which Im very grateful :)
Keep up the great work, i just finished video 3 and off to sleep now, but I look forward in the morning to catch up again..
Best,
Clive
+grey702
Rule Number one Never leave your fishing gear in a shed even if it's locked up
Rule Number two make room in side the house even if it means your bedroom under the bed
Why isn't there more recent consistent content man, you really are the best beach fishing channel on TH-cam
Thank you for your great expectations of to do we are beginners and your video is great
I’m so glad I came across your channel it’s true and your good with coming across to viewers. Keep up the good work 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
Thanks for the kind comments Jamie, glad you're enjoying the channel! We should have lots more video's to come this year :-) Hope your fishing is going well, tight lines, cheers Chris.
Excellent video. Very informative with lots of useful tips, for a beginner, like me.
Excellent stuff +Andrew Ross hope you enjoy our other sea fishing video's too! :-)
This is a great video, great info. excellent quality and wonderful presentation.
Great stuff! I used to fish at Dunwich, Southwold, Pakefield I live in Indonesia now. Interesting accent you’ve got there too.
Thanks Paul, glad you enjoyed it! I'm a Norfolk boy! Haha. Hope you've been catching a few fish, cheers Chris.
What an awesome video thanx so much, just starting out and ur clear presentation and explanation of rigging is invaluable cheers!!
Thanks for the kind comments Nigel! Glad you enjoyed the video. :-)
Awesome video, I'm going fishing tomorrow at Felixstowe and this has helped me lots, thank you very much :)
It's Pollock we sometimes get plagued with in aberdeenshire , gets to the bait before anything else sometimes!
Unfortunately we don't get any Pollock around our part of the coastline! I'd prefer them to Whiting I think! :-D
Enjoyed the videos lads keep them coming, inspired me to get the rods out again I think!
Thanks for the kind comments Jaimie and for taking the time to post them, glad you're enjoying the videos! :-)
Have you got any tips on casting I’m only 13 and I’ve got a saltist bg30h and fathom 12 and I’m struggling to gain any more than 50 yards
Can't believe this is 8 years old now, remember it coming out! Any plans to pick back up on the cod quest series this coming season?
I know mate, madness I feel so old! And yes... fingers crossed we should be out at the end of this month! 🤞🏼🎣😊
Thanks for the tip! Will have to give it a try. :-)
excellent. he is relaxed and informal,, friendly and best of all no exaggerated behaviour. I watched it and dont even fish
Thanks for the kind comments mate!
Another great video fellas....thanks.
Thanks again mark williams
good stuff, you may like to try the fg knot.dont have to worry about cutting your finger,or placing the leader knot on the side of your spool.tight lines
Cheers +Wallace Brown thanks for the tip too!
Good day I'm a Jamaican 🇯🇲🇯🇲 and I like your style of fishing
Hi mate! Glad you're enjoying the video's, thanks for taking the time to drop us a comment! :-)
cheers, I enjoyed your video, and guess I never heard anyone with your accent, think I got more delight in the sound of your voice than your fishing fun, God bless be ready for the coming of the Lord .
Thanks for the kind comments +ronald hamby glad you enjoyed the video and liked the accent! Haha. ;-)
So cool . Thank you . Man !
Thanks John, glad you enjoyed the video! :-)
From The Waters Edge TV thanks for the info, will shout if I have a good Cod season, will enjoy it either way, catching is a bonus lol
Great stuff chris mardlin thats a nice sized Plaice! :-)
:-) We'll see what we can do.
good video mate. wall done. I learned a lot. I must get back to the beach and do some fishing.
Cheers Thomas Harrell glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! :-)
Oh by the way, I like ur set up, the tent fishing gear.nice and neat without any worries. Also I never saw or heard of that snag and released mechanism. Wow that pretty ingenious mate.
Thanks Reggie! If you want any information on the tackle there's a link to our tackle list in the video description! Hope that helps! :-)
Thanks mate appreciate your replying back. Keep fishing.
Yeah I agree very good well informed, great idea about having ready baited rigs to clip on I will be doing that from now on!! Tight lines everyone.m
Thanks chris jones glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment :-) Good luck with your fishing, hope your catching a few, tight lines, cheers Chris.
Great video what kind of knot do you use for your shock leader and is that Mon to mono?
From The Waters Edge TV Cheers for that, it all makes sense now :) one last thing what is the shelter you use?
You should also use around 10lb of leader for every 1oz of lead you are using... so 5oz lead, 50lb leader. etc
Thank You Chris, appreciate your advise..
Great video am fishing sea trout over here on the west coast of Ireland there great sport hoping to try the bass this year...what kind of knot do you use for the shock leader knot cheers?
Thanks Ian, glad you enjoyed it! :-) I just use a shock leader knot, I'm not sure if it has a proper name, so apologies!
It would be great if you done another series like this..hint hint😄😄
Haha, comments noted! ;-) We've had a few requests, so hopefully we can get a few more episodes filmed this winter!
Now...this is a great video :)
Thanks Bruce! :-)
I'm an ex trawler fisher man, I've gutted cod, they have prawns, small fish, and tiny silver eels about 4 inches long in thier gut mostly 👍👍👍
I went for my first time ever two days ago on the Walton pier, I caught 1 legal whiting and a few others like a dab and a small cod. My friend also caught a dog fish!
Excellent stuff Jack, glad you managed a few fish! :-) Tight lines, cheers Chris.
From The Waters Edge TV I was just wondering, I bought a rod that is 9ft I think, I used it to fish on the pier and I was wondering if it would be suitable to fish in the marina with the same rod.
Hi Jack, yeah that should be ok for it. :-)
fantastic and very imformative video, lots of helpfull tips, subscribed and looking forward to watching all your video`s. best wishes.
Thanks for the kind comments +davie-m glad you enjoyed the video and found it informative :-) Hope your fishing is going well, cheers Chris.
Enjoyed watching, very good.
I know mate, it's such a shame! Hopefully one day they'll return in some decent numbers.
A lot of effort and money for a small return. I use to fish for cod from Hornsea beach in the 60s we always caught good sized fish.
It is indeed John, unfortunately the last few winters have been a bit like that! Our spring/summer fishing is probably better and more productive now!
Enjoyed the video mate 👍 What Penn multipliers is that you're using and would you recommend them? Cheers
From Brazil. Great fish
Thanks Jose, nice to hear from you in Brazil too! :-)
Hi great vids very informative can you share your venues ? I’m in Kent any ideas where I could park a camper close to waters edge ? Thx
--> epic.
btw. in germany the cods are also that small as the small coalfish, pollacks whitings seen. and here in ireland as well. its no real shortage, its just they might be somewhere else...(norway or island, 40 m deep, or so...)anyway.... going out 30 years ago on a boat, everyone picked a 7 pounder or more... 70 cm each, some did 30 or so of the cods... now we have adapted to the shore angeling scene species, offering everything but the pure filet steak meat fish dish....
therefore you spend lots of frogs on teasers, lures, worms and blink blink, guess what: you are the targeted fish! har har har.
the much i really appreciate the noble systems and technical clues... i turned to stones as weight. these waters here are tackle graveyards... the lead is not good and actually pretty poisonous... and stone is everywhere. a free line in the pull? well. just fixing it with a simple sling should do it. that has not turned out to cause any trouble.
if really a 2 pounder picks my bait, he can raise a fixed 70 g stone with ease..
but its cute, neat and respectful how you treat even the small creatures.. thats the right spirit. also not seen everywhere anymore... sometimes i miss a little ethics course on how to treat creature.
if i see professional fishermen, fishing industry, and even sometimes also anglers here fishing.... often my heart bleeds!
great didactics, btw. thx.
Whats it like shorecasting from beaches that have really gradual sand slopes?
It's ok +Daniel Verti :-)
Great vid. thanks for the instruction. I'll be back to visit again !
Thanks Julius, glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you for taking the time to comment too, it's much appreciated. Hopefully we'll have a new sea fishing video up in the next few weeks :-)
Good video, lots of info. Well done.
Thanks +pikeman2
Love the vid but also top presenting. Whoever is doing the presenting explains things really well.
Hi mate, glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for taking the time to comment to! It was me doing the presenting, so it's nice to hear some kind feedback! We should have lots more sea video's to come... now the weathers perked up a little!!! Haha! Tight lines, chris.
Thanks from new Zealand. Only ten minutes in, that full moon can make it tough fishing, in new Zealand anyway.
On Tuesday its a full moon with the moon on your side of the world during the day so i will be out in my boat using slow jigs for snapper, and im pretty confident of a good result.
excellent video informative and no gimmicks
Thanks for the kind comments +QUARTERBAT we try and keep the video's like that if we can :-) Glad you enjoyed it and thanks once again. Hope your fishing is going well. Tight lines, cheers Chris. :-)
A Vlog on casting techniques on the beach please.
I'm not the best caster Terry! I'll speak to some of my friends though and see what we can do.
Interesting, how long was you fishing for and which worm did the fish favour ?
Hi mate, we fished from around 2 o'clock in the afternoon to around 9.00 o'clock in the evening. As we fished cocktail baits it's hard to say, but I would guess the Lugworm! Hope this helps.
Amazing video. One of the best I've seen. Glad I come across you.
Thanks mate! :-)
Next time I decide I want a portion of chips I'll bring a rod along then, I love Aldeburgh chippy, never realised it was good for cod fishing! Actually though I've never had any luck sea fishing, rivers and lakes are a lot easier!
The chippy is quality! Much better than the cod fishing is now. :-D
Great video mate! I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the videos in the series! Keep up the good work and tight lines! All the best.
Haha. Tight lines, cheers Chris.
great ,realy enjoyed that,im of out on my little boat at weekend ,gunna catch some river mersey fish .mmm.
Nice one +Robert Obrien glad you enjoyed it and thanks for dropping us a comment! :-) Good luck with your fishing, hope you manage a few! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
nice info good vid, hope to get back into sea fishing again soon, may see you about as your from near me.
Cheers +Mads1 glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment.
how long would you normally make your length of shock leader between the main line and the clip link?
Hi dave0504 you need to make sure that the shock leader is longer than the rod and that when you cast you still have a good few turns of it on your reel. So normally I guess, to be safe, that I make my shock leader twice as long as the rod.
Nice Vid. Shame you didn't get a codling but your commentary was excellent and I enjoyed the show. P.S. great tip about the breakaway lead.
What make is the shelter you take cheers lee
Hi thanks for your quick reply keep up the good work
No worries Mark! Good luck with your fishing, hope you manage to get amongst a few fish :-)
enjoyed the video. Cod just haven't turned up this year any idea why ?
Thanks Paul! I know, it's been a terrible year... I don't know why... over fishing (there simply isn't the number of fish out there). The fact that the sea temperatures have remained warmer than normal.... I honestly don't know tho! Fingers crossed the spring/summer fishing is better. Cheers Chris.
for what its worth, we are experiencing the same situation here in Florida....the water temperatures are higher then normal and fish are adjusting by feeding very early and late....so your fishing in the dark, very weird......
Keep it Real, Mate! You hooked me!
Thanks mate!
Hey u have a cool channel and lots of good vids thanks for sharing looking forward for ur next vid 👍
No worries at all mate, glad you like the channel and video's! Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Devon Fishing
Hi Chris really enjoyed the video and what rod are you using and reel?
Cheers +The Vintage Sloth glad you enjoyed the video. I'm using Greys GRX-s beach rods and Penn 525 MAG 2 reels. There's a link to my tackle box in the video description, hope that helps.
+From The Waters Edge TV good reels I have one and do you ever fish in Somerset

Hello from Canada. I’ve had some friends come over from England Manchester area to fish carp. They were talking about individual swims and I noticed some polls on the beach with the red looking sign on it is that a swim between poles. What is the cost for fishing as you are doing it.Eg. License, swims fee etc. Just found your channel like what I’m seeing and I have become a subscriber. Good luck mate.
