Another suggestion for a mid-day excursion is to visit nearby CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL. It's still a work in progress, but the face and head have been completed. The head of Crazy Horse alone is 27 feet taller than the six story heads of Mount Rushmore.
I visited Mount Rushmore some years ago on a warm, sunny day with a blue sky, and was positively surprised, even if the heads were a little smaller than I had expected. Some tourist attractions are rather boring and overestimated, but Mount Rushmore lived up to its reputation. A real treasure.
Thanks for this lovely video. Evening program brought tears to my eyes. I find my patriotism growing with my age. Made a quick trip to Mt Rushmore in 2009 but did not go to the evening show. Will be going back to see that. God Bless you as well.
Every time I go there I learn something new. I first saw it with my parents and grandparents in 1952. It was far less developed then. The sculptors studio was about all that was there then along with the old observation deck. My 9 year old self was amazed by the men who swung on those trapeze like contraptions and did actual work up there! It’s always amazing to see how few Vets there are in a crowd that big. Thanks for a great video and even greater memories!
Great video! Been there the last two summers!! Can’t stop going back. My wife and I love the place. I’m a veteran and the lighting of the monument was very emotional. Literally brought tears to my eyes!🇺🇸
@@AmericasParks we're traveling to Yellowstone and area national parks next month and wondering about how to find modest priced accomodations and must see. Do you have any suggestions?
@@youthwake I almost always tent camp - if that works for you, check out the park campgrounds. Regarding activities - look at the two videos I made of Yellowstone in 2020. (Wyoming playlist). imho, the best 2-day itinerary.
@@AmericasParks we're looking to spend a week or two in the area. We have watched your videos. I was thinking it might be a bit cold for tent camping but we're willing to look into it.
We spent 8 days hiking in the Black Hills area August 2021. Mt Rushmore was definitely the most patriotic moment I think I’ve ever experienced up to this point in life. A bucket list activity for sure. What was a surprise for me in the museum is that they have an exhibit about the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps). My father served in it during 1935-36 in North Dakota as an 18 year old. Young men put to work during the Great Depression doing a lot of hard manual labor, building public and national parks. Unsung young heroes sending home their paychecks home to for families to survive. If you get more time to hike the area, you can see the back of Mt Rushmore from Black Elk Peak. Met a Lakota on the trail there who was evangelizing for Jesus. Had a wonderful talk with him but I regret not getting a picture. A strikingly noble looking human being. Go see Crazy Horse, great museum. Custer SP is a must also. Take a day to go into Wyoming and see/hike Devils Tower. The whole area was just beautiful…
Great words, my friend! Looking to get 6 more videos up from this trip - 2 from Custer are coming next (was surprised how wonderful that park is). Made a note of Black Elk Peak. God bless!
Patriotic moment? Did you feel proud? If a bunch of foreigners came to Britain, conquered it, and then, to demonstrate their power and dominance, carved faces of their leaders into the White Cliffs of Dover, they would be rightly hunted down by British natives and executed for environmental (not to mention cultural) vandalism, but the USA had no problem doing exactly that to Mount Rushmore. Absolutely disgusting. And it didn't happen thousands of years ago, giving it the patina of history. When I was a kid, Mt Rushmore seemed like the Pyramids of Egypt or Stonehenge - then I found out it was carved in the 1930s (!!!!!) when people really should have known better. It's like a gigantic sign that says ''White People own this now!''. If I was a Native American, I'd have dynamited that shit into rubble a long time ago. Absolute disgrace that it was ever allowed to happen.
Thank you for your patriotism and your love for Ruben sandwiches! I visited when I was 15 in 1987 and am planning a trip back with my wife soon. I'm 52 now and it's refreshing to see people who are still proud of our great nation❤
Really encouraged by your values and kind words! We're not perfect, but still the best country in the world. One that was build by many genuine and sacrificial patriots that now are often forgotten or despised.
Was adopted as a baby, not even a year old to America. I’ve loved this country for as long as I can remember and while I’ve visited some of the most amazing parks America has to offer this one has always been the one I’ve looked forward to seeing the most. This video makes me even more excited!
We just took the family out to the hills for a week long vacation. We did everything you did except that extra hike. We also checked out devils tower, badlands, wind cave, wall drug Custer state park, minuteman missle visitor center and rode the 1880 which is the train you heard on your hike. I’m really enjoying your channel and appreciate the work you put into these videos.
Great video! The family loved it as it was so fun to see the places we visited last year at Mt. Rushmore. I agree, this is one place everyone needs to visit at least once. Wishing you and your family a blessed Resurrection Sunday this week!
Lovely. July 4th 2000, I spent the entire day at the monument and got to experience not the only the program (which can bring out the feels) but fireworks over the Presidents’ head. It was one of the last times for the fireworks so I feel fortunate. I do believe every American should go there as the feeling of seeing it is hard to explain. Thanks for sharing. That part of SD has been part of my summer vacation for the past 3 years. Sadly I have moved and won’t get out there this summer. It is nice to relive those happy times with your video.
Thank you Randy for sharing such a wonderful and patriotic area. Your videos are always Outstanding !! God Bless you and God Bless America... Robin :-)

Parking Garage blew me away. Huge. Very busy place. Loved town and area. But like Badlands is stop on the way to big boy. Yellowstone. Via Beartooth and Northeast entrance. Bam. Do Barronette Peak from ice box canyon. Only on sunny summer day. Gorgeous.

When I came to the States back in 2019, we went to Montana passing by North Dakota so I didn't get the chance to see this beautiful monument. Hope to get back there someday to go see it with my own eyes.
Every single Thanksgiving the past 3 decades, my cousins remind me of the time we went to Mount Rushmore and I screamed like a girl when I saw a rattlesnake and cried until I got a Frogger ice cream bar. Agh, the wonder years.
I love this area of South Dakota for its many parks. We've been to the area several times and it never fails, including this park. Thanks for such a beautiful, moving video. I'm glad they are still using the Veterans with the flag ceremony. So moving and patriotic like you said. My young grandson was glued to the stage. And we saw a mountain goat on the way into this park on our last visit. Thank you for all you do in showing us our national parks. God bless.
I went to Mount Rushmore as a toddler before 9/11/01 and went on the tour with my grandparents and family and they took us back then on that tour behind the presidential heads so I’m sure they stopped that tour after that tragic day
I toured Mt Rushmore in 2016. I started early but it hit 99 degrees by noon. I did the presidential trail but it was quite hot and work to climb back out of the trail. I definitely stopped at the cafe. I did Custer State Park the rest of the day.

I have never been to Mount Rushmore before so I found this video very informative! You did this video different. It felt more like a more typical TH-cam style video, not that that's a bad thing because you did a great job with it. Thanks for sharing your adventures and knowledge with all of us!
Hey buddy, hope you are doing well! The Black Hills are among my top 4 favorite destinations. Hope you can get out there! Have a blessed Resurrection Day!
So pretty! Have you visited Stone Mountain Park in Georgia? Well if you haven't, its a HUGE granite mountain with carvings on the front of Confederate generals, and a place to hike up the mountain, and in the summer time they do light shows at night!
I would love to visit this park. I hope when I do it's a day like you had in this video with beautiful weather. What gorgeous photos I could get. Are there any other parks in the area you would recommend with wildlife and beautiful landscape?
@@AmericasParks thank you! I haven't visited that part of the country yet, but I definitely plan to. I will check out your other uploads. I have enjoyed all of your videos. Thanks again!
i have been looking forward to you getting to the individual clips of the Black Hills. Hoping to go next summer Lord willing. I really need to check off all that the area has to offer. We have only been to Rushmore, not knowing how much more there is to see in the area( at that time in 2013). I remember we really liked Keystone and a very neat restaurant we found there. This is going to be a great series!
I noticed your new edit moves right away, lots more zoo/Pan and with the beat, nice man. I do it on almost every clip. . . wrinkled rock, hmmm. Nice work Brother!
Another high quality video! I love this format you've been doing recently with the visitor's guides to different national park sites. Would highly recommend doing one about the National Mall if you get the chance, since there's a lot of little monuments and memorials that people don't know about!
Appreciate the feedback! Just uploaded another one! It's a bit on the old side, but did something like that in DC with my son about 5 years ago. th-cam.com/video/PlYyiC6TTe0/w-d-xo.html
I highly recommend going to the memorial area at sunrise. The orange color of the rock is just beautiful and there is a lot of wildlife at that time of day.
Thanks so much. We will be there this summer. No hassles from the NPS about posting videos on TH-cam? They’ve gone after a handful of content creators. 🤯
@@AmericasParks My hometown is Sidney Nebraska in the panhandle of Nebraska near the Colorado Wyoming borders. The Black Hills are not that far away growing up my family would take a pop up camper to Black Hills. There is a horse trail you take at Fort Robinson Nebraska and at a certain point you can see the Black Hills way off in the distance.
We have been to Mt Rushmore many times. Recently, in summer of 2019 and then with our children in the 70's and 80's. The evening program back in the 70's and 80's was unbelievable patriotic and religious with references to God. We have lost or are afraid of references to God today.

Thanks so much! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
I am excited to go there now! Thanks!🇺🇸
Excellent, Doni... enjoy!
Love it - great recap Pastor Randy!
Thank you very much!
Perfect timing, i was about to plan a trip out there!
Happy to hear that, Darren! Enjoy!
Great video!!! 👍
Great video. Thanks. When it is a good time to visit? We are thinking March 2023.
Crowds will be much thinner, but the temps will most likely be cold. Mid 40's in the day and below freezing at night.
So pretty! Have you visited Stone Mountain Park in Georgia? Well if you haven't, its a HUGE granite mountain with carvings on the front of Confederate generals, and a place to hike up the mountain, and in the summer time they do light shows at night!
Thanks and interesting... never heard of Stone Mountain.
@@AmericasParks Yeah its not really talked about because its a bit controversial for some people, but my goodness, its a beautiful place to visit
Thanks for the insight
Cool video bro gotta go there some day, I am still stuck on going to Yosemite National Park over and over again
Thanks! Yeah, so hard to break away from our favorites! Yosemite is one of the best!
Back Street BoYs :=)))) Great efforts
Thanks for checking out the video!
Very inspirational!
Right on! Have a super weekend!
I would love to visit this park. I hope when I do it's a day like you had in this video with beautiful weather. What gorgeous photos I could get. Are there any other parks in the area you would recommend with wildlife and beautiful landscape?
The Black Hills is loaded with many gems - Badlands NP, Wind Cave NP, Custer SP, Black Hills NF - check out my recent uploads.
@@AmericasParks thank you! I haven't visited that part of the country yet, but I definitely plan to.
I will check out your other uploads. I have enjoyed all of your videos. Thanks again!
Good hike. Great Experience. 🇺🇲 👍🏻
Thanks, Oscar! Enjoy your weekend!
Thank you for the tour, I went during Thanksgiving and everything was closed for renovations.
Thanks, John! So sorry to hear you missed out!
i have been looking forward to you getting to the individual clips of the Black Hills. Hoping to go next summer Lord willing. I really need to check off all that the area has to offer. We have only been to Rushmore, not knowing how much more there is to see in the area( at that time in 2013). I remember we really liked Keystone and a very neat restaurant we found there. This is going to be a great series!
Appreciate that Robert!
I noticed your new edit moves right away, lots more zoo/Pan and with the beat, nice man. I do it on almost every clip. . . wrinkled rock, hmmm. Nice work Brother!
Yes, my friend... "Wrinkled rock climbing area" is calling you! Right up your alley!
many thanks for this tour..awesome . (subs like and share ). Is it possible to visit it during winter?
Much appreciated! Sure, not sure regarding the temps, but I believe it will be open and the crowds will be way thinner.
Great video! Thanks for sharing this info!
Appreciate that!
Yeah, that must be beautiful!
Thanks so much. We will be there this summer. No hassles from the NPS about posting videos on TH-cam? They’ve gone after a handful of content creators. 🤯
Yeah, not sure how to move forward on this one. Plan to stick with state parks for the time being and old footage. Thanks and enjoy Rushmore!
Been there many times in my life.
Great to hear that! Must visit for every patriotic American at least once in their life!
I can't wait to go we're going here Memorial Weekend. Does the evening show happen every day?
Sorry, just seeing your comment now. Yes, I believe the show is every night. Hope you had a great time!
Thank you for this video! We are going for the first time in July!
Thanks and hope you have a fantastic trip!
I hear the ice cream there is really good
Absolutely! Had to include it as one of the "stops!"
Very beautiful park
You have good taste!
We have been to Mt Rushmore many times. Recently, in summer of 2019 and then with our children in the 70's and 80's. The evening program back in the 70's and 80's was unbelievable patriotic and religious with references to God. We have lost or are afraid of references to God today.
Sadly, so true! And look at where out country has gone since we've progressively excluded God.
Love everyone there, seeing what great Republicans did for America :-)
From an Englishman.
Right on, Stewart!!! Great words!
great video this canadian is travelling to rapid city next week late october for a demolition derby event at the mounument GILD RUSH Nationals we plan on taking in mount Rushmore during the day...thanks for the great infromation....is it true once u pay the 10 bucks to park i can come back and not pay again or such ???
Happy to hear that and hope you had a great trip to the Black Hills!
I've taken two vacations in the last three years: one to Utah in 2019 and one to South Dakota last fall. I was within a few miles of you on both. I hope our paths will cross one of these days!
Wow, Jim, cool story! Great destinations and it would be a pleasure to meet you!
