You can reset the service lights without a tool. I've done it myself on my 2002 525i Iginition OFF (POS 0) with key in. - Press and Hold the trip odometer button while turning key to position 1 (ACCESSORY) - Keep the button depressed (about 5 secs.) until you see "Oil Service" or "Inspection" with "Reset" or "Re" in the display - *Note: On vehicles with "High" cluster, you will also see the amount of fuel (in litres) remaining until next service - Press the button again and hold for approx. 5 secs. until "Reset" or "Re" flashes - While the display is flashing, briefly press the button again to reset the Service Interval. After the display has shown the new interval you should see "END SIA" for about 2 secs. You're welcome =]
you do not need a toll, find socket 19 on you diag socket, in engine bay, make sure 19 is earth, test by putting a continuity metre between that socket and the chassis, then get a piece of snug fitting wire and jump 19 and 7 easy thanks for this info tho
In response to upthevolume2007 comment . All is correct, but on my manual 530 I have to keep the clutch pedal pressed all the way down to the floor as you go through the process to reset the service lights . I can only assume that's the same for all manual models . It's certainly the case for my car .
Great video...very clear. I assume when you restart the ignition everything is back as it was before the tests? Do you know if the OBC takes engine temp from the same sensors as those which inform the dials ie the coolant temp sensor?
Hello How can I change the consumption values per 100km? I already did the reset and it returned to the same values 4.0 I know my car is between 6.0 and 6.3. Is it possible to change these values? Thank you very much for the excellent video and work
Hello. I have a bmw 530d 2001 model and some of the test options don't work, such as test 7, it's as if it's not registered. I presume you know a lot about this. Do you know how this can be fixed? Thanks in advance
I'm intereseted on number 15, what is it for? when I enter on that menu it shows like 00100 00 but when i click once that is changed to like 10100 001. It has two or three different readings.
Hey, I have a E39 and on the cluster whenever I start my car up and it's running the battery light stays on. Any ideas why this is? the battery is good and the alternator works... can this be reset or turned off somehow?
hmmm.. Thanks a lot! I will try it... and I'll definitely look into it.. the battery might be older.. but it still not that old. Thanks I'll try and see what the problem is.
Yes I enter the first test and go through from 1.1 to 1.7 if I keep it pressed after the test 1 it exits the test menu and goes back to the normal menu
Hello there, Million thanks for such informative video. Really appreciated. Well i believe there is some hidden menu walkthrough which unlocks the TV while running the vehicle. I don't personally own a low OBC car... but I think you bring that stat up on the menu, and then press and hold the OBC button on the turn signal stock until it resets.
The 520i was never great in terms of economy. I had a 528i SE auto which managed 34 mpg average. My father in law has a later 2.2 litre 520i which barely does 20 mpg.
@@paulanderson79 reset the clock for your mpg while driving and you will see it averages a decent amount ive seen 28mpg in my 2002 520i even seen 34+ on motorway drives

How do you lock the display to show outside temp?
Brilliant video.
Does this apply to the E46 3 series aswell?

Yes, it will be normal after one start cycle. And it does reference those same sensors that feed the dials.
Hello
How can I change the consumption values per 100km?
I already did the reset and it returned to the same values 4.0
I know my car is between 6.0 and 6.3.
Is it possible to change these values?
Thank you very much for the excellent video and work
You'll need programming/coding software to change the units.
@@E39Source thanks 😉
Is there any way to reset the check engine light from this menu?
No, you'll need a scan tool for that.
What a great video! Thanks for the info I'll have a play, I've just bought a 3.0i e39 and was wondering about any tricks :)
What happens when you go to test 1.3? Is it a functional test?

Do you know how to change mile to km on the dashboard?
You'll need software such as NCS Expert to change the units.

You can try a cluster reset in the OBC. But usually that means a failing battery or alternator.

How do I reset my temperature
There is no way to reset a temperature, what are you looking to do exactly?
You can reset the oil service indicator lights from the round diagnostic plug in the engine bay. www.bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/reset-plug/reset.htm
Can you explain me how should i reset MPG stats ? to count it from new statistics
