Fun Fact: Peter Capaldi really does play guitar. When he was younger, he was in a punk rock band with former 'Late Late show' presenter Craig Ferguson. They were called 'The Dreamboys', and were once mistaken for mistaken for males strippers because of the name.
7:34 Yes, that is actually the first time the Master (Missy) and Davros have met, at least on-screen. The Master was introduced in 1971 and Davros in 1975. Two iconic villains meeting for the first time in 2015.
I think the reason the Doctor seems so different starting in the Christmas special and season 9 is because he finally figured out who this version of himself was at the end of season 8. Usually for a new Doctor's first episode or two he's still trying to understand his new persona. What they did differently with Twelve was they decided to make that the arc of his entire first season. So by the time season 9 starts he now knows who he is.
Peter Capaldi had some say about where they took the doctor this season. He was allowed to give more of his own take on the doctor. I really like where he took him. You need to react to the last three episodes of the season.
I loved this whole two-parter when it was originally on. Seeing all the different Daleks from through the years, the Doctor in Davros’ chair, Missy being nuts, Daleks regenerating! It was brilliant! But most surprising of all was the emotional scene with Davros. I was not expecting that, especially when he opened his real eyes. Finally, I loved the symbolism at the end with not only Young Davros holding hands with the Doctor but, if you look closely, the Doctor’s holding a DALEK gun and Davros is holding the Sonic Screwdriver.👍😀😎
When you shouted, "OH NO, MOTHER FUCKER!" at 6:13, I wondered if everyone else in your house heard it. :P If I remember rightly, I think Missy says the Vortex Manipulators were blown off their wrists after they were teleported away at the end of last episode, so that's why Clara couldn't use it to get out of the Dalek. I don't have much to say about it at the moment but I liked your thought process after you watched this episode. Your growing appreciation for the Twelfth Doctor is heartwarming. Also, I loved the last few seconds of this video. :)
The Doctor in Series 8 wasn't sure if he was a good man or not. In the finale, he realized all he really ever had been was "an idiot with a box". That's the difference between Series 8 and Series 9: he knows who he is, and he's less afraid of not being "good".
Anytime you have Missy in an episode, you KNOW it's going to be good!! Such a great performance, balancing good (ok, less bad) and evil with a heaping tablespoon of insanity.
Great reaction! It's natural getting as confused as I was when I first saw this episode, but I love how it's a real thought-provoking story in many ways - The implications of the Fourth Doctor's speech, the clash of two great logic minds playing on an emotional level, the sonic sunglasses, the twist with the broken pieces of the TARDIS, the Clara/Dalek situation, Davros's eyes opening, etc... it was all a huge stage and we got played because it's out of our zone of comfort while going way deeper into certain lore aspects that actually make sense. This might seem too crazy to some, but it's actually a well-played out experience and a classic DW twist on how we think about the whoniverse. We know so much that we crave for explanations and not knowing becomes sort of frustrating, magical and scary. Not going to spoil it, but Series 9 is a thought-provoking experience in many ways.
Hi Shayla, Every available Dalek type from Classic Who right up to date was involved in this 2-parter. The Dalek that captured Missy & Clara was one of the original 1960`s Daleks, if you remember when you saw "An Advent. in Space & Time". As mentioned by "ArlanKels" in the comments, this is what led to a Dalek being able to ask River Song for mercy. Often, what fans consider gaps or unanswered questions, are used by future writers, personally, I`ve always enjoyed that. Done intentionally, it is a way to create future events, that took place in past history. Glad you enjoyed this 2-parter. :)
I love that scene with The Doctor and Davros. The Doctor's line about if on a good day, if he tries really hard, then he is The Doctor. I love that quote so much.
I think partly why the 12th Doctor became more enjoyable since Christmas onwards is Peter Capaldi started injecting some of his real life personality traits into him to flesh him out. The sunglasses are a good example, as is the guitar, as he is a talented musician. It does make sense, as sometimes the doctor takes a while to figure himself out after a regeneration. Before then I feel he was mapped from the third doctor who was somewhat cold and distant. Even his clothing with the red lining inside was a call out to his past in that regard.
Dang vastra and Jenny are good... But I felt like we didn't get enough of them interacting together for me to love them the same way. They need their own spin off show seriously xD with straxx too. Edit: there's other reasons but too early to say (spoilers) why just yet.

This is probably my favorite story in all of Doctor Who (and I do mean ALL). The Master and Davros are my favorite recurring villains (not counting Omega, who hasn't been in the new series as of yet) and having them both in one story is a fan's dream!
Missy is such a treasure. Maybe my favorite portrayal in all of New Who. At this point I'd gone back and watched a bunch of classic Who and lemme tell you, that Davros stuff hits SO much harder having seen Genesis of the Daleks, Remembrance of the Daleks (and others but those two are the required reading, imo). Julian Bleach really sells the weight and history of their relationship here. I like to think that Davros is sincere about valuing the Doctor's opinion of his character even while the whole thing is a trap.
Bobgrey I'd call Resurrection of the Daleks a classic too. Not required reading as you say, but it really establishes how dangerous the Daleks are in a way that I don't think was matched until Dalek.

The scene where the Doctor tells Davros that he saved Gallifrey is my favourite part of this episode. I think that's the only scene where Davros isn't just trying to manipulate him, and it shows a side of his character we've not really seen before. Oh, and if you want a more in-depth answer to the question "who made Davros?" the audio mini-series _I, Davros_ is absolutely worth listening to.

The game of lies and thruths between The Doctor and Dabros is one of my favorites parts in this episode, and the fact that you have to decide which is which.
He spent all of season 8 questioning himself and wether hes a good man or not, in the finale he comes to the realisation that hes just an idiot in a box wich causes him to lighten up a little from last christmas onwards
(I bet you have problems ending phone calls, too.) The twelfth Doctor seemed to suddenly change and lighten up from the moment he took the reigns in Santa's sleigh. Could it really be that which kicked his human side into gear? Whatever - I think this is a really good season, so I think you'll enjoy it.
I like this episode because Davros is all like "I played the Doctor for a fool" and then the Doctor is like "No, actually. You were the one that was played for a fool"
ok alot of people are saying he is the best Doctor. because you see him go from mean old man to caring and open his heart to clara. and see real growth with him,and it is like when Christoper died. you feel like it is to soon and he was just getting good when peter dies. i did"t feel that with dave or Matt do not get me wrong i was sad to see them go. but i felt like they had a nice long run.
Oh god Shayla you're addictive, I love your videos, I love how much of a massive dork you are, I love your reactions, your looks, your voice, literally everything about you is adorable and oh god if the next two are 9x7 and 9x8 imma prepare for a long-ass reaction for 9x8 (please include the scene I know you know what one I mean, pretty please its amazing and I need to see your reaction to the full thing) cause oh boi that's an emotional rollercoaster
I love this episode because it shows how much love and compassion the Doctor has for people… even for his worst enemy. As long as you react to the Christmas special, we're all good. ❤
I LOVED this episode. The first part seemed a little messy, though it was really fun, but this one felt much more focused and really, really good. The Davros “am I a good man” scene was fantastic.
@@Mineycart Yeah I like 3 and 4, but as far as how those 2 connects to the overall story arc, they're not really needed. Every 1,2, 5-12 all really connect to the season plot, but I was just mentioning the episodes I think have great reaction potential to them... which is why I put 6, 7 and 9 in the optional category. They are all good episodes, but not THE episode that needs to be watched in the respective pairs. I would personally say react to this entire season, because it's just that good... but if she wants a shorter list, then 5, 8, 10-12 are locks.
The mercy scene still irritates me so much. The doctor says "you shouldn't be able to say that" but back in season 5 there was a Dalek that begged for mercy when River threatened it. Are you telling me there was a person inside that Dalek that River killed... Brutal... Either that's some brilliant foreshadowing/postshadowing or someone really screwed up here... I mean, I'm pretty sure Moffat wrote both episodes so I'm hoping he understood what he was doing when he wrote this.
5 and 6 you really need to watch, cause it has a bigger story involved. 7 and 8 will make you love the doctor. Skip 9. Then finally watch 10, 11, and 12. Bring napkins
This is certainly my favourite Twelve. I liked him in S8 but he is more consistent now. As long as you do Zygon Inversion I’m not too fussed about the ones in between. Never has a second part been such an improvement on part one. I’m sure this isn’t a spoiler as you post so far behind your actual viewing schedule.
I want to know the story of the Doctor and the nest of vampire monkeys!!!!! Loved this two part intro to Season 9. Looking forward to your next reaction!
Oh and another thing I forgot, I don't know somebody told you about this, but Billie Piper also has a bunch of albums out; if you wanna check them out.
100% agree. I wasn’t too keen on the 1st Capaldi season, but like you said something happened between the Doctor Who special and the first episode of season 9, And I was totally sucked in by his doctor. Season 9 is such great season, and includes some of my favourite episodes....
Another highly enjoyable reaction to watch. What I appreciate about your videos is that you watch Doctor Who in a way I seem to have lost: you immerse yourself in the story and react emotionally rather than intellectually. If anybody tells you that you need to be more analytical, please give them the finger. You are watching the show in the best way possible.
You're absolutely bang on about the new dimension of the character starting with Last Christmas. It felt like the S8 finale allowed the Doctor to realize who he was and allow himself to become more emotional, passionate and connected to others without losing his alien-ness. I think it was a mistake to make him so prickly to begin with but S9 has some brilliant performances from both Capaldi and Jenna.
Hi, Present Shayla. (Or since this is recorded already am I really addressing Past Shayla?) You watch the episodes that you do not review so I guess it's not absolutely necessary to film a reaction but I for one, would like to see your reaction to the last couple of scenes of episode 5. It's brilliant bit of what makes the 12th Doctor so compelling. He is fully aware of his capabilities while he frets about abusing his power. "...in apprehension, how like a god..." I think some dude said that once.
Ugggghhhhh.... I despise Series 11. When I use the word despise, I am being kind. If I was to say what I really think about it, I would probably get in big trouble.
yes it ends with 12. I watched 4 episodes of season 11 and i could not watch anymore. I found it repulsive and an insult to all that went before. No respect given sacrficed for some unknown agenda
I didn’t think they’d get you but hey ho. 9th season and they draw you in so well. What do you think of the sonic eye wear? 🕶 He’s growing and changing like all of us in life, we all have our ups and downs this is 12 on his way up.
Aww, you skipped the ROTJ moment. "Let me look at you with my own eyes". Also the "Great Idea" phrase. The movie that pops in my head is the original Italian Job (with Michael Caine).
i think what davros said was true but he wont change his plan u know... so he trick the doctor but he meant waht he said and all :,v i wanna think that it would make him a better villian :P
Missy/The Master is like the scorpion in the old fable: A scorpion and a frog meet on the bank of a stream and the scorpion asks the frog to carry him across on its back. The frog asks, "How do I know you won't sting me?" The scorpion says, "Because if I do, I will die too." The frog is satisfied, and they set out, but in midstream, the scorpion stings the frog. The frog feels the onset of paralysis and starts to sink, knowing they both will drown, but has just enough time to gasp "Why?" Replies the scorpion: "It’s my nature..."
You need to do 5 and 6 they are essential to the rest of the series. 7 and 8 are also essential to this doctor. They make you realise that he is infact the doctor.
This is such a incredible episode. Missy is here in all her insane mental glory. No-one else in the Who-niverse manages to trigger ALL my feelings in the span of an episode.

"So long as there's mercy..." Boom.
I love how much of a Doctor Peter Capaldi turned out to be. He was magnificent. Awaiting the rest! -"Ren".
Been waiting for this one, it's my favorite opening in Doctor Who. You got to love Missy and Clara!
Robert Brown I think it was the “I am... an idiot!” in the season 8 finale.
@@spideyfrommars9218 Yes, could well be that.
Such a good season for development
You will love so many things in this season and ya the glasses are a fun twist for a little bit
The Hybrid is 2 parts. No one knows who the hybrid is but the general consensus is part timelord part dalek.
Missy is my favorite version of the Master, and I think you can see why. She is chaos personified. Incredibly dangerous but so much fun to watch. :D
Love this episode, can’t wait to watch this
Edit: Great reaction yet again, looking forward to Thursday now😁👍
It took the doctor the all of season 8 to remember who he really was, an idiot, passing through, trying to help, not a warrior, not a hero...
I would say 5, 8, 10, 11, 12 are mandatory reactions. 6, 7, 9 are nice to haves, but not no doubters. And 3, 4 can be skipped.
3 and 4 are good but i agree not mandatory
@@Mineycart Yeah I like 3 and 4, but as far as how those 2 connects to the overall story arc, they're not really needed. Every 1,2, 5-12 all really connect to the season plot, but I was just mentioning the episodes I think have great reaction potential to them... which is why I put 6, 7 and 9 in the optional category. They are all good episodes, but not THE episode that needs to be watched in the respective pairs. I would personally say react to this entire season, because it's just that good... but if she wants a shorter list, then 5, 8, 10-12 are locks.
I love the wearable technology too!! Waiting for at least a little comment of the next two episodes. They are among my favorites.
Missy throwing Clara down the hole was the best thing ever. It was just so Missy. She and Clara are so much fun to watch when they are together.
Michelle Gomez is my third favourite Master. Just behind Roger Delgado and Derek Jacobi.
FINALLY.
I HAVE BEEN SAT UP WAITING FOR THIS
its 3 am right now.. but who needs sleep when shayla uploads
"im dying Doctor"
"you keep saying that you keep not dying, can you give it some welly?"
The thumbnail look like you aboutta get ready to SING
Honestly I wanna see that
5 and 6 you really need to watch, cause it has a bigger story involved.
The phrase you're looking for is "je ne sais quoi", which means an undefinable quality of improvement.
I always commend this episode because it is the ONLY time I've ever felt any sympathy for Davros or the Daleks
Hope you do 5 and 6. They do affect thing later in the series.
i knew clara was having flash backs lol
Another highly enjoyable reaction to watch. What I appreciate about your videos is that you watch Doctor Who in a way I seem to have lost: you immerse yourself in the story and react emotionally rather than intellectually. If anybody tells you that you need to be more analytical, please give them the finger. You are watching the show in the best way possible.
It’s my headcannon that Davros was being somewhat honest when he told the doctor to protect his people. Just gives some depth you know?
You're absolutely bang on about the new dimension of the character starting with Last Christmas. It felt like the S8 finale allowed the Doctor to realize who he was and allow himself to become more emotional, passionate and connected to others without losing his alien-ness. I think it was a mistake to make him so prickly to begin with but S9 has some brilliant performances from both Capaldi and Jenna.
-Missy: ''the Doctor gift me this brooch when my daughter...''
Mercy's greater than sacrifice.
All this talk of the hybrid, just you wait😂😂
Flashbacks to MrTardis moaning about "Is it a hyyyybrid...?"
Good times!
I hope she is reacting to 9x8 and of course she has to react to 9x11.
Ironically that speech at 908 fits perfectly for 911, if you get what I'm saying....
@@chanceneck8072 i think i do ...
@@Mineycart I think so, too!
Will you ever react to Torchwood (Dr Who Spin Off)
Your reactions are the best!!!!
Every reaction uploaded makes me so happy but so sad knowing that you’re getting closer to season 11
Season 11 is a train wreck and that ain't even a spoiler cause its all over social media, hell even the news at this point
Ugggghhhhh.... I despise Series 11. When I use the word despise, I am being kind. If I was to say what I really think about it, I would probably get in big trouble.
@@thatlonewolfguy2878 Maybe she will be making her own decision about season 11,I just wish people would give it a rest
yes it ends with 12. I watched 4 episodes of season 11 and i could not watch anymore. I found it repulsive and an insult to all that went before. No respect given sacrficed for some unknown agenda
The doctor is half human
I didn’t think they’d get you but hey ho.
9th season and they draw you in so well.
What do you think of the sonic eye wear? 🕶
He’s growing and changing like all of us in life, we all have our ups and downs this is 12 on his way up.
Aww, you skipped the ROTJ moment. "Let me look at you with my own eyes".
Also the "Great Idea" phrase. The movie that pops in my head is the original Italian Job (with Michael Caine).
There are quite a lot of two partners this series but absolutely love this series!
Edit: man Missy is fantastic!
Anything with Missy is marvellous
i think what davros said was true but he wont change his plan u know... so he trick the doctor but he meant waht he said and all :,v i wanna think that it would make him a better villian :P
Been waiting for this allllll weekend
Missy/The Master is like the scorpion in the old fable:
A scorpion and a frog meet on the bank of a stream and the scorpion asks the frog to carry him across on its back. The frog asks, "How do I know you won't sting me?" The scorpion
says, "Because if I do, I will die too."
The frog is satisfied, and they set out, but in midstream, the scorpion stings the frog. The frog feels the onset of
paralysis and starts to sink, knowing they both will drown, but has just enough time to gasp "Why?"
Replies the scorpion: "It’s my nature..."
Think the word you were looking for was detached, he is less detached in season 9 than 8
I'm so glad that you enjoy Doctor Disco and Clara this much. Many fans dislike them...
5 & 6 you GOT to do.
Yes, she's GOTs to do 5-6!
