Here after reading an article telling the story of this. Basically Marty coming up with it, then working with Paul McCartney on it and having an amazing experience, Paul making “Hope for the Future” to be the “Live and Let Die” of Destiny, then Destiny’s development and marketing being such a disaster that Music of the Spheres was being ignored, Marty having his whole falling out with Activision and Bungie, Hope for the Future being released out of context and flopping, and Music of the Spheres being released years later only included in a limited edition physical music collection. Plus people mistakingly thought Paul’s only contribution was Hope for the Future and the marketing was misleading, but he really did have a whole lot of influence on Destiny’s music (he came up with the horns from the title screen!)
Glad I could find it on here at least to listen to it.

That original Destiny aesthetic has a really special place in my heart. I love the game we have now and I’ll never stop playing it for good. I’m happy with the story as it seems to be getting better and better each season, but while so much mystery still remains and the stakes are ever higher, there’s one simple thing they lack: wonder.
Destiny 1 had a real sense of wonder about the world. There’s an old vidoc of Marty talking about environmental storytelling and how important it is for game design. The old Halo games did this to perfection, especially in games like Halo 3: ODST with the weird glyphs found all over. OG Destiny did too as we knew so very little. I suppose though that that’s the sad part about the series. We can’t go back to that same sense as wonder as we learn more.

The thing is, they can always bring that wonder back. There is still so much we don’t know in regards to the vex, the darkness, etc. it’s just that the lore nowadays are the answers to our past wonders, instead of prompting more mystery

The Path: Tracking the Traveler across the solar system, then finally sending an envoy to Mars to meet it
The Union: The Traveler blessing humanity with many gifts, leading to rapid technological growth and incredible advances in science.
The Ruin: Humanity enjoying its Golden Age, with peace and prosperity for all. The Colony ships are created, to finally push beyond the confines of our solar system, into the great expanse of unexplored space.
The Tribulation: The Darkness comes, shattering the Golden age. The Traveler is wounded and humanity is pushed t the brink of extinction.
The Rose: The time of the Risen, and the time of the Warlords. Humanity slowly migrates to the Traveler. Eventually, a new breed of Risen comes, to shatter the Warlords, unite the Factions and protect humanity under the shadow of their broken god. However, danger is everywhere. The time of the Gunslingers comes, Risen who travel the world in search of those who need protecting on the road to the Traveler.
The Ecstasy: The founding of the Last City, and truly the beginning of the Guardians. Under their protection, a new safe haven emerges, a shining example of the perseverance of humanity. During this time, the Fallen attempt raids on this new City. People are lost.
The Prison: The time of great disaster for the City. The failed attack on Crota, the Battle of the Six Fronts, and Twilight Gap. Tragedy after tragedy. The Guardians focus on protecting the City.
The Hope: After a long time, a lone Ghost in the Cosmodrome finds you, a Guardian that will change everything...

I completely agree. Destiny 1 had its story rapidly rewritten after its head writer was fired shortly before release. A lot of elements were reworked or scrapped, and only a few elements remained in their original form. I remember the original concept for the opening cutscene was the astronauts landing on Mars only to discover a pale woman in tattered clothing who heralded the Traveler before making it rain around them. That almost religious energy was seemingly completely thrown out when they forced the time travel plot in. The story of the Gardener and the Winnower was really interesting, and seemingly was abandoned beyond some lore entries. When I think about the game Destiny *could* have been, I just get really sad. It feels like the writers threw out the beautiful fantasy narrative that the game could have had in favor of cheesy sci-fi that would be a lot easier to write and maintain.

Still, I do miss the days at the end of Destiny 1, Age of Triumph. The game was fun, my friends were still there, I felt like I had truly accomplished most of what I could in the game, and brighter days were ahead. Then Destiny 2 came out, and that all went to shit. Held my interest for quite a long time, but felt hollow and like a shadow of what it could've been. Got worse and worse, friends left, so I finally quit.
Now all I do is listen to this amazing music once in a blue moon, reminding myself to never stick around too long after thinking, "It'll get better soon, I hope."

Bungie had to delete the E N T I R E storyline, all of it, the whole campaign, roughly a single year before Destiny was set to release. Solely because Activision didn't like it. They'd been working on that story for absolutely years. It's why we got all the lore stuck in grimoire cards, they didn't have the time to put it in-game. And more importantly, why the campaign was so shallow on original launch.

TO THIS DAY, we are getting reskinned and cut content even in D2. most areas are from the D1 we'll never get. So get used to it, any bungie fan who knows the dev history of destiny will ALWAYS say "What if."

Inquisitor McDakka It isn't about pleasing everyone, when most people were alienated and off put by this game, a game in which they had so much hope for. Destiny 1 was the fastest swing new IP of all time, but was quickly dying after launch. This game was meant to surpass Halo and firmly plant Bungie as an all time game development legend. Now there's a good chance they'll always just be "that Halo company". There's nothing wrong or futile about pondering the past and possibility. There is something to be learned from it. And also it offers closure, to at least get a glimpse at the greatness we were promised but never given.

From what we know, this is the original soundtrack to the original destiny story. We are aware of the book of sorrows and understand its presence in the Destiny lore. Take a look at the song names. Sometimes soundtracks follow the storyline I think (please dont quote me here, just theorycrafting) and the names of the songs can give us an idea of the story that once was.
The Path - "Eyes up Guardian", our first steps. We walked that path and found our Destiny.
The Union - Meeting our guardian peers. Titans, Warlocks, and Hunters. Together form a powerful fireteam to defeat the enemies the Last City.
The Ruin - The Last City. Humanity had a golden age when greeted by the traveler, but it all came crashing down at some point. Music also sounds very Cabalish.
The Tribulation - The problem. What do we need to do to save and protect the last city from these invaders?
The Rose - The rose has its thorns, and from early trailers I can only assume this is the Crow. Who knows, thats just my guess.
The Ecstasy - The queen? Mara Sov has a certain ecstasy to an extent, and this song has a very royal sound to it.
The Prison - The Prison of Elders?
The Hope - the hope for the future.

Bungie’s Glassdoor reviews paint a detailed picture of upper management’s arrogance and ego. They became real jerks and forced out a lot of talent. They also bullied freelance artists and contractors, teasing them with nonexistent opportunities for a permanent job. “We made Halo,” they’d answer any constructive criticism. Permanent roles were for their buddies. Nepotism flourished.

@@wifine1951Yup. Bungie even broke their partnership with Activision after learning Eververse alone made Activision $1B in revenue. Their claim not mine.
They were going to publish free to play mobile games in China with microtransactions and pay2win mechanics. It’s more culturally accepted there to pay for an advantage and they do so without hesitation. This dream fell apart when Xinnie the Pooh and the CCP waged war on video games, calling them “poison for the soul”. At which point they let themselves be purchased by Sony. Guess what they’re making next? Free to play and mobile games with microtransactions galore.
Their next Marathon game is a simple extraction shooter on the Tiger engine. Basically free for all slayer. No complex scripting, no need for fancy cutscenes, no expensive voice actors, and the story is already told so dust it off.
They even brag to other studios and publishers how they are grooming their audience to accept less content for more money and be happy about it. Save on effort and cost while increasing profit. They, modern day Bungo, are prideful tools. The pride isn’t even earned anymore.

Wow this is so gorgeous. I unfortunately never got into Destiny 1 but hearing this music again makes me wish things were different. Destiny 1 was actually my first ps4 game ever. I was moving schools for the billionth time and I wasn’t taking it well, so my parents got me a ps4 with destiny that Christmas in 2014 to make me feel better. I was so grateful, and I still am, but it was kind of inconvenient timing for a game like destiny to be introduced into my life. First off I had just moved schools, and although I would make many wonderful memories playing games with friends later down the road, I didn’t have anyone to play Destiny with at that specific point in time. I feel like that severely hampered my experience with the game, just playing by myself. Also that Christmas the ps4 and xbox servers would get hacked so that wasn’t really a good introduction to Destiny, a game that had no offline mode to my recollection. Overall I remember feeling very disappointed with how Destiny 1 turned out, as I adored the halo games growing up, and Destiny didn’t do a good job at capturing my imagination like the halo games did. Later on I would get new games and play lots of games with other people, but not Destiny. Apparently nowadays Destiny has evolved into an entirely different beast, but I think that experience of playing Destiny 1 when I was younger makes me really hesitant to try out Destiny 2. It’s just not something I want to do, but if I ever do play Destiny 2, I hope I end up finding some enjoyment out of it
