My sister and I just sang this song at our uncle Ed's funeral. He still lived on the Homeplace. His tools and pictures of the farm were on the table with his cremains. It was so fitting to sing this song.

This song touches my soul after leaving my families farm, seeing it split sold and removed from me. it will always be my home place even if I am gone from there. The ghosts of my family still warm the hills and valleys their spirit will never leave or be sold.

I am still unable to listen to this beautiful piece of music with dry eyes. Reminds me of my family and friends that have moved along, some to everlasting joy others I can not say. Regardless they traveled through my life and left their fingerprint. I am now in my late 70's and I wonder who will watch my home place when I'm gone from here! Bob

Hey Bob, I just read your comment and this song brings me joy to listen to. It made me get a little teary-eyed. The first time I heard it yesterday I have friends I have friends that have left impact in my life. God blesses us with so many wonderful things every day, and I just want you to know that you’re an amazing person and God will be with you every step of the way through all of your hard times. Love you bye-bye

Bless you for this wonderful song. Our homeplace was sold this past summer. I can relate to memories of the stream where I retreated as a child to watch water creatures and to listen to the drip of the waterfall. The tool shed was there too. The spirit of the land and our family going back more than a hundred years will always be in my heart.. .

I'm 23 and I grew up on bluegrass as well as good old country. This song was one of my favorites growing up. I'm thankful to have grown up in the country where it's peaceful and beautiful, just like this song❤

This song radiates throughout my soul. This is so beautiful....and moving. One of the most beautiful songs sung by very talented people........and I can only imagine how the other poster must feel who recalls their old farm being sold...and gone. This is one of those songs that make you thankful you discovered it. My thanks to LL and her band.

I met Ms. Lewis at Merle Fest, I forget which year but we stayed at the same motel. It was her last day and as she was checking out I asked her if she was going to play this song on the big stage later on that day. She said it was not on the set list, but she proceeded to sing it for me alone in the lobby of the Williams Motel. Later that day when she performed on the Watson Stage she snag it again, saying this is for her new friend Pete. I doubt that she would remember it, but I will never forget what a warm and lovely person she was and is, and how beautiful this song is.

I love this song and Laurie and her band do a beautiful job of playing and singing it. The writer of this song, Kate Long is who wrote these beautiful lyrics. You all do a great job on this song, thank you. ♥ Such great teamwork with in the band members too.

This song brings me memories back from eighties. I was the bass player of a backing band for her in Finland in Haapavesi Folk festival sometime then. We were having a get-together as a practicing session and when I appeared with an electric bass, it did no please her at all. My friends told her to be patient and listen how it will turn out. And so we did a few songs and she said: " it does not sound that bad at all"... I hope that I remember that all correctly. She probably won´t remember that "incident" at all!

Ja, stimmt. Ein trauriges Lied, aber so so schön. Keine Frage.

I recall clearly hearing this for the first time. I was driving 85 mph in western Oklahoma. I started bawling and had to pull on the shoulder. Soon my uncle will breathe his last, and the land that’s been in the family since 1872 will go to who knows.
