If you are a cafe racer purist, you are going to like the project presented in this video.
And if you are not a cafe racer purest, then you also are going to love it.
Because this Honda CB550, has the best of 2 worlds.
It was built in Germany by Hookie Company, which is owned by Nico Mueller, David Ohi e Sylvia Petrasch.
The same team that built one of the most memorable Honda CB750 Cafe racer, and which was considered one of the Best Cafe Racers of 2015.

I'm 17 and I just bought a 1979 cb750 in pieces. The cb750 that Hookie Co. built a few years ago inspired me to shoot for the clean and subtle cafe look. this channel has been very helpful. thanks for everything.

Another beautiful example of the CB 550. That fairing is angled in a weird stance but it makes up to how unique it is. Bravo Hookie Co. And Bravo to you RACER TV for uploading yet another CB 550.

One thing i notice with most of these builds, many do not seem to carry a legal number plate and light. In the UK at least, big number plates ruin the back end . Lots of bikes shown on your videos with no number plate at all! Another great video, thanks for sharing!

skaraborgcraft the hookie builds are totally street legal, since the Base Bikes are so old. there is no need for rear indicators, silencers etc. :)

...style or function or style and function are simply starting points that the builder uses in the vision process.
The fairing demonstrates this fully...it gives the appearance of speed even when the bike is at a standstill.
The style of the bike is beautiful and looks like a machine that functions based on purpose.
I can say the same for the work in your videos...great content, beautiful presentation visually and descriptively for the purpose of simple appreciation.

Normally I'm not a fan of faring, but I do like it on this one.
I'm not a purist, nor do I subscribe to form over function for a bike, I am more into function over form, the bike has to work well, but if you can combine the two, then you get a synergy, beautiful and fun to ride, you know it when you see it.

Definitely the fairing makes all the difference. Extend the tank visually in a similar way to the Suzuki GS 500 from H2 Moto. Of course they are two very different bikes, but the effect is very similar. I like everything, starting with the minimalist approach, which leaves the motorcycle free of all that obstructs sight of the essential. The only thing I do not like is the back light, maybe I'm wrong but its roundness breaks with clear lines. It is very difficult to be critical with a machine that from any angle I like. Purity, elegance, fine details, ready to run, seems to say the design. By the way past saturday after more than a year since the accident I did my first ride in motorcicle. As the old caracter used to say: I'm back!

Excellent craftmanship
Very nice bike. Built within my minds eye of a classic Café Racer. I like the faring on this particular bike. Some bikes appear to be lighter or even 'look' faster, without the faring. However, in this case, this is a beautiful machine! I too like the black/black paint scheme. The "H" is very well thought out and helps create the mystery within this machine. Eu naturalmente prefiro os modelos sem carenagem, mas devo reconhecer que alguns modelos ficaram ótimos com a carenagem! É o caso desta CB 550. Bela moto e mais um belo vídeo!

Parabéns amigo Vitor, é com satisfação que reitero sua perspectiva e apreciação sobre essa bela CB 550: Convide o maior fã de café racer do mundo à opinar sobre esse projeto e muito provavelmente ele mudaria apenas esse ou aquele item.. justamente pela genuinidade das linhas. Tanto que, diferente de videos anteriores onde usualmente é descrito as alterações, peças fabricadas ou descartadas e a transformação geral, neste você se ateve mais no design.. ótimo sinal, não acha?
Graças ao seu canal fui aos poucos definindo e lapidando meus gostos por esse estilo de moto e percebendo que tenho sim um pé no purismo.. com seus vídeos aprendi a apreciar a essência, a originalidade, a enxergar a leveza, a graça e a fineza do "sóbrio" e do "old school".. que venham mais projetos estilosos como esse.

Olá Amigo Robinson. Eu compreendo tudo o que disse. Por isso é que gosto de apresentar vários tipos de cafe racers, até porque tudo depende da moto de base com que se está a trabalhar. Esta Cb 550, é o tipo de moto que dá para ser mais purista, daí que necessite de poucas alterações estruturais. Obrigado por partilhar a sua opinião sobre este assunto. Só fiquei curioso em relação às 2 ultimas motos que apresentei nos meus últimos 2 videos. Aposto que você ainda não as viu. Lol. Dê uma vista de olhos, e depois diga-me o que achou. Tenho a certeza de que o irá deixar muito orgulhoso. :) Um abraço.
Sim, já havia visto estas motos Vitor, acredito que desde que conheci seu canal, não tenha ficado um vídeo sequer sem que eu o tenha assistido. O que acontece é que prefiro rever o vídeo em casa a noite, onde possa também comentar ( embora, por vezes, haja épocas mais tranquilas que permite fazê-lo de dia mesmo ), mas devido a rotina meio imprevisível de meu trabalho, às vezes passa batido.
Sobre a primeira, foi um vídeo que me deu uma enorme vontade de comentar pois me fez viajar em minha infância, onde moto no Brasil era apenas aquela.. ou alguma "exótica" dois tempos da Yamaha rsrs.. impressionante o "tino" do criador naquele projeto e tão quanto o seu, em resumir "A versão cafe racer de fábrica da CG 125" que me fez dar risada de tão acertado rsrs.. Mas quem ficou encantada mesmo com a pequena CG foi minha mulher, que viu o vídeo umas três vezes.. depois eu perguntei à ela: Ora, se gostou então porque você não comentou? E ela: "Você ta louco?! Mas de jeito nenhum!!!!!" rsrs..
Sobre a K 100, como disse um colega de trabalho: "Uma cafe racer modernosa" rs..
Uma terminante e incontestável prova do talento criador dos irmãos Lourenço, é meio surreal que um estilo antigo de moto que são as cafe racers, tenha um resultado futurista.. utilizando uma moto antiga.. :o ? \,,/....
Mas o que deixou os brasileiros boquiabertos sem dúvida foi a criação das peças.. até onde sei algo fora da realidade de nossas oficinas preparadoras.
Para mim contudo, é uma moto vitrine, algo para evidenciar a capacidade da oficina, visto que nos é inviável ter uma cafe racer dessa, nesse sentido inclusive, acharia melhor para os irmãos Lourenço se instalarem na Europa, onde certamente fariam melhor, teriam mais campo e mercado.. e não vejo país melhor para isso que.. Portugal rsrs..
Sei que não deve ser a intenção dos irmãos Lourenço nem sua linha de trabalho mas, sinceramente, gostaria de ver sua próxima K 100 feita com peças mais acessíveis.. e vou encerrando por aqui, pois meu post já se alonga além do que pretendia rsrs.. Grande abraço.
Meu caro amigo, muito obrigado por tão esclarecedora resposta. Compreendo-o perfeitamente quando não temos tempo para responder ou escrever algo. Em relação à K100 dos Irmãos Lourenço, acho nem mesmo em Portugal haveria um grande mercado para um projecto desses. No entanto, a avaliar pelos comentários nesse video, o grande sucesso dos Irmãos Lourenço pode certamente passar pela comercialização internacional dum Kit com a suspensão para a K100/75. No Video deles, tem uns 5 comentários de pessoas a perguntar se podem comprar essa suspensão. Eu já fiz essa sugestão aos Irmãos Lourenço, mas ainda não disseram nada sobre isso. Provavelmente estarão a melhorar a suspensão, ou a preparar melhor as coisas para o 2ª projecto com a K100. Vamos ver o que dá. :) Um grande abraço.

Beautiful bike... it's subjective but I do like the custom fairing as well... it fits the bike and looks like it belongs there, unlike trying to find a prefabbed fairing and making it work.

Stunning project. I am on your side with that semi fairing, but I personally would have rounded the shape with "some" flat and minor screen. This is somehow... missing with that fairing...

Very beautiful and clean in its simplicity. I spot one error that I can't let slide. The stock handle bar risers are very ugly. Either use them or they need to go. I like fairings on cafe bikes even though it might not be for the purist like you say, I think on some builds it sets them apart. Miss your weekly vids and hope all is well with you.

But with a 125cc will be a different story. Try to search on youtube for "Honda CB 125 Cafe Racer", or for "Small Cafe Racers", and you will find several of my videos about that kind of motorcycles. Worst thing about fairings is that they inadvertently cause speeding and with a big bike you don't even know you're doing it 60 mph on the high way is ok without the fairing and with fairings 80 is easy so for me a cx 500 without fairings and all or as much fat trimmed off as possible back roading at 55 and I'm alive!!!

What happens when the rear suspension compresses an inch? It looks great but if you can't ride it without putting the tire through the fender what is the point?

I must say that the yamaha fz16 is not an easy motorcycle for a cafe racer project, because it requires so many changes to achieve a proper classic/retro stance. But try to search on Google images for "yamaha fz16 Cafe Racer", and you will see what is possible to do with that motorcycle. Good luck. Cheers.

I like the tire ratio, usually people do these builds and have like monster tires it seems kind of obnoxious, pointless and useless lol
I think that everything depends of the owner's needs. :)
I find strange that a builder with experience would kept the old top triple tree with the handle bar fitting on it.The original foot peg cramp the rider sitting position.For me a cafe racer is more than a solo seat and a nice paint job.

I just bought a 1980 honda cm200 twinstar. I cannot find much for cafe conversions on this particular bike. Have you seen any? Right now, mine is basically stock. Thanks!
No, i never heard about that version. But it looks similar to the Suzuki GN 125/250. Try to find some projects with the Suzuki GN model, and you will get some ideas to your project with the Honda cm200.

It's not really proportional. The fearing needs to be a bit bigger. That, or move the exhaust a bit higher. IMO ofc.
That, or they need a way to visually separate the exhaust from the frame.
I understand your perspective. It would work in most projects. But in this one, i think it would make the bike to look "heavy". But thanks for sharing your perspective. :) Cheers.

Probably under the Fuel Tank and inside the rear cowl. The battery is probably very small, because the engine has a kick starter. Cheers.
