    I was out and about working on my house. Winter comes. I staggered in grabbed som coffee and punched up your latest. The human mind being what it is, I thought what have I got? Laura doing “this old house?” Hinges for my root cellar door are on my to do list. What a coincidence! Then came the dawn.
    Now I’m accused of being a know it all. Not so! I learned a lot from Laura about henges. Not hinges. English is such an interesting language with its many homonyms. Thank you for enlightenment.
    Now I should have known you like maps! Ya a gal like you. It figures. Me too! What a coincidence! I’ve even made a few. And for what your doing those ordinance maps are a good choice. The US army and Air Force make similar called TAC charts, as do most other major nations.
    Air reconnaissance is flown and pictures are taken at scales from 1:20,000 up to 1:60,000. These pictures are complex and hard to interpret. So a guy called a photogrammatist takes a gizmo called an optical comparator and arranges two sequential photos such that a three-D view is presented. Then he essentially draws a map based upon the major features he sees.
    These features often have military significance. AND as an added bonus significance for megalith hunter too. In military jargon a ditch is a defilade, a low place to take cover. Likewise an enfilade is an exposed place to avoid cause you might get shot. Like the top of a mound. You have just discussed defilades and enfilades without using those exact terms.
    I found your shots of the UK ordinance maps verryyyy interesting. I do recall TAC charts from the first gulf war showing almost identical images in norther Saudi Arabia. Highly classified at the time. Circles surrounded by shallow ditches, each connected to the next by straight lanes bordered by ditches. These were in fact supply dumps of ordinance, “beans and bullets”, in readiness in the desert. You might also see similar images around any military air field, “ready revetments”, with or with out aircraft in place. The similarities are eerie.
    Am I suggesting that the henge you discuss were ancient supply dumps and aircraft dispersal sites? No. But form does follow function. A point to remember.
    And so 10,000 years hence the King Khalid Military City in the sands of Arabia will be discovered with its many ancient and degraded henges. Not burial sites per se. Obviously used for ceremonial purposes. Guarded, judging by the proliferation of cigarette butts at certain points. Receiving votive offerings of various odd items resembling ancient ammunition and food containers. Etc, etc.
    Hummmmm. Makes one wonder. Don’t it?
    Fox out.
    PS this is MY example of the hammer seeing everything as a nail.

    Until the invention of telescopes, clocks or calendars, even with the best aligned henge it took at least three days to discern the sun-rise's movement from Solstice: that event may be on (what we call) Dec 21st, but celebrations had to wait until the 25th to be sure.

    I was out and about. Just got a chance to watch.
    Henges are so enigmatic. They were obviously of great importance to the people who built them, but we will probably never completely understand. I always find it interesting when a site, that was sacred to one culture, is adopted by the next. (The example of the church built within.) There are always complicated and varied reasons behind it, however, it seems to happen frequently. Which shows a nice human continuity. I love Ordinance survey maps! They are so beautifully detailed. Glad you could incorporate them into this video. As always, I appreciate you sharing with us. Thanks Laura!

    If Zachariah Sitchin is correct and humans are partial ets, if any of the henges have anything to do with astronomy wouldn't it only make sense that it's would tell them when there will be a planetary alignment which possibly could be the time when visitations occur. I have never heard this theory but it makes perfect sense!

    • @christopherellis2663

    How profound, on my third listening through. Religion is one of the pillars of society. The votive actions show their mind set. 1) Marking Solstices, and Equinoxes for a specific purpose or iconography to express, planting, harvest, and the end of the year is a calendar; true not the Summarian calendar, though it was invented 6, 9, or even 12 thousand years after the solar cross and the Tepes of Turkey 2) Religion had a single source as an example only, Sayburc adding filters to the Tepe's, more filters Jiroft, to Babylon, to Egypt, more filters to Eleusinian mysteries - each new culture carried with it the collective knowledge of it's ancestors putting their own unique perpesecitive on things - no matter the source, name, form, or function there is a patheon of nature dieties.

    I think Avebury is similar to the Nazca Lines and Serpent Mound, they are symbols for the sky gods to see. Avebury had a serpent through it symbolizing the day time comet passing around the Sun. It has something to do with Stonehenge as it is directly North of it and I bet one could see a fire from Silbury Hill.

    The "Prehistory Guys" postulate in their videos that henges were basically cattle pens. There are some pens in Yorkshire in particular that look very much like henges. And, potassium samples from within the henges support their ideas.

      How much did they have when there where hences 500 meter in diameter? Not even in USA they are this big?
      And why struggling with tons of dirt, when you easily can set up a fence?

    • @klondikechris
      @klondikechris ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@doncarlodivargas5497 I am not saying I agree with them, but.... For fancy things like rodeos, or cattle shows, henges work. People can sit on the banks, and watch what is going on in the ring. So, more than a casual cattle pen perhaps. It is one idea anyway.

    • @laurence7181
      @laurence7181 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can imagine a situation where these monuments were both. The people bring their cattle to the festivities, some to be slaughtered, some just to show-off. That would help explain the ditch being located inside the bank; to help keep the cattle in. All of this could have been part of the spiritual/ritual activities.
