Don't listen to the people talking trash. That kind of spirit doesn't belong in the piping community. Your pipes sounded great and your playing was clean. With all the actually terrible piping going around on youtube, you are a breath of fresh air. Keep on piping!
I heard this when staying Dolgellau (North Wales) one Sunday morning, it moved me on a deep & meaningful level. I remember tears running down my cheeks but I had no idea why.
This will be piped at my husband's funeral on 24th July 2023. I am listening to it now. It is the very tune he sang to our three beloved children when they were babies to get them to sleep. There is a symmetry in my soul when I listen to this. Thank you.
Beautifully played. My dad's funeral cortege was piped into the cemetery to this just two days ago. It's all I can hear When my day comes I will have it too. Sorry for your loss.
My dad was buried and marches to his grave with this tune by my wee nephew who is a piping prodigy.. I miss my dad so much and he did so much for Scottish music and musicians and charities.. His name was Donald mackay Smith and his band was donny and Diane's Highland ceilidh band, and his studio was called Smith Mearns recordings.. Lovely playing btw, and nicely recorded..
To whoever this young man is: you play excellently. And to whoever filmed this: beautiful cinematography. This touches my soul, and as a piper myself who many a time has wondered to the sea or up in the cliffs to play, I will never tire of hearing the pipes.
I've only started listening to bagpipe music a few days ago, and not only is it one of my favorite instruments to listen to. This is the only song I've ever listened to that moved me to tears. And I couldn't tell you why, because I know nothing about this song other than it's played on the bagpipes.
When I lived in Baltimore, there used to be an old man who would go out into the alley and play the pipes. He would simply stand there, alone, as glorious and astonishing music unfurled from those pipes. The setting was about as far from majestic or beautiful as anyone can imagine...back-alley Baltimore is old, tired, and not a little dangerous. That old man was a miracle!! Your playing calls his to mind. And hey...this is the tune about Benbecula, isn’t it?
I've been playing about 30 years, and competitive in Grade 2 in the US. So i'm pretty good, but not top. He sounds just fine. I think his drones and chanter sound excellent. Who cares if he calls himself Master? It's just the name of his channel people.
As a Licentiate of London College of Music I thought this was delightful, great tone and nice intonation, thank you for taking the time to share your creative spirit with your fellows 🙂
Thank you for this. A ballad like this should be interpreted on every instrument that mankind can play. And it has a lot to say. I'm from Western, Pennsylvania and This lone bagpipe version. Is beautiful. I totally feel the power of this music.
I'm an Aussie my Grandma was Scottish, I was only 6 when she passed away, I remember her strong wee accent I wished I could have known her longer! I found a letter she wrote to my father, she mentioned that I didn't like her, how sad I am to read that! I'm not sure why? Everytime I hear Bagpipes I think of her and I'm proud of my Scottish background! Hope we meet again!
I love this tune. I printed out the music and followed along with the intent of learning to play it correctly. I found nothing wrong with his piping. I only wish I could play as well
Hello from Spain !...firstly, once more, for your amazing and beautiful clips. Obviously I am an amateur piper. I had from more than 30 years a Galician bagpipe, and recently I bought a cheap Highland bagpipe...of course, I'm having several troubles to order and put fine the pipe. Mostly, my problems are with preasure losts (loses ?...excuse my English). Thanks very much indeed for your adds and lessons.
I’m English and I love this!!! The Dark Island gives me goosebumps! My late grandfather was from Hopeman Moray and this music and beauty of this piper’s playing gives me great comfort 😀peace!
goosebumps every time I hear this! I remember hearing the pipes in basic training when I was a lad pirbright barracks in Surrey felt a lump in my throat and couldn't control myself some of our English brothers thought this, was quite funny they werent laughing long. neither was I 😂 three days in the guard room for each comrade I assaulted 🤦♂️
Come on, can you not ask for something a piper doesn't get asked to play every 5 minutes, do you know how many exceptional tunes there are, and what about Gordon Duncan tunes or perhaps a couple of Seaforth highlanders marches.. No? Plus as a song for a national anthem Scotland the brave has far better lyrics and is actually a far better song than flower of Scotland, which has its place but is very defeatist stb is a much more fitting song for any scot who won't lie down to tryanical rule.
This piper is exquisitely set at a 467 Hz Low A, WHERE PIPES SHOULD BE (NOT 480 Hz). This makes the difference between a majestic instrument sound and that of tortured cats. Kudos! Nicely played. Nice drones. Looks like a Sinclair chanter, but I would be interested to know.
Great piping thank for sharing I love this tune dark island ,it reminds me of my mam she was born in Shetland and I know it's not the dark.island but the words of the song dark island I imagine that they are singing about Shetland my dad was also from Shetland and he and mam left Shetland when she was 25.and he 26 they came to live in South Shields ,dad died aged 70 mam went on to live till the ripe old age of 105 living here in South Shields 80years but she still called Shetland her home , when I hear the lone piper it brings a tear to my eye ❤💕💓😍
If I could play this well, I wouldn’t care if people liked it or not. This guy has a bunch more videos, check them out. I started the pipes a year ago, and I use his videos because I like the tempo he uses. Drives my instructor a bit mad, but that’s okay-

Top top
hoof
My only complain is that he didn't repeat it one more time! 😋
Absolutely beautiful
@@CrystalHempstock the up side of TH-cam... The repeat button. Lol 🙂👍
One of my Mother's favourites. Beautifully performed. Brings tears to my eyes. She is in Heaven.
I heard this when staying Dolgellau (North Wales) one Sunday morning, it moved me on a deep & meaningful level. I remember tears running down my cheeks but I had no idea why.
I am an Englishman. This is truly beautiful. Thank you ❤
Agree with Jonathan Chambers. You're a proud Scotsman! Just go on and be yourself. Salute and respect!!!
Ok Gerald
Geralt, a new Witcher Contract is available

So sorry for your loss Lucy. Your husband got the best send off with this lament. 🙏❤️
Beautifully played. My dad's funeral cortege was piped into the cemetery to this just two days ago. It's all I can hear

TH-cam won't let me edit my comment but I meant to say marched, not marches..
Absolutely phenomenal piping sound and well pitched. Blaring bass sound of old Hendersons.
Played along with a pre-1902 Henderson practice chanter and it pitched together perfectly.
To whoever this young man is: you play excellently. And to whoever filmed this: beautiful cinematography. This touches my soul, and as a piper myself who many a time has wondered to the sea or up in the cliffs to play, I will never tire of hearing the pipes.

Sad, peaceful and beautiful at the same time. Love this music.
Fantastic. God bless ye for not having any band accompaniment and just a lone, beautiful PIPER. Ready, aye ready.
I agree. The single pipe is so haunting and beautiful.
Second that. This is why I took up the pipes. I don’t want to march in a line. Alone, up on a hill, playing to the wind and sky. Cheers!

tenors a little bit out though lol
Well played lad. That’s my favourite pipe tune. My son is currently learning the pipes and I’m looking forward to hearing him play Dark Island. 👍
As a Licentiate of London College of Music I thought this was delightful, great tone and nice intonation, thank you for taking the time to share your creative spirit with your fellows 🙂
Wonderful the pipes carry on the wind perfectly
Solid, steady, and beautiful. Kudos!
was played at myu dadas funeral thirty four years ago still love the dark islaand linda wilson

I'm from Western, Pennsylvania and This lone bagpipe version. Is beautiful. I totally feel the power of this music.
Well done, my friend. I congratulate your playing. My mother told me she wanted me to play this over her grave.
Amazing sound from an amazing Scottish tune 🏴🏴
This brings tears to my eyes and a lump to my throat every time i hear it.
Me too and I'm not even a Scotsman!
I wish I could play the bagpipes .. definitely a amazing talent !! Love this
Fantastic my late fathers favourite tune and especially on the pipes by a master makes me well up and a proud Scott

Beautifully played ❤
Just Mesmerizing. Thanks from Seattle.
That is the best chanter reed I've ever heard.
I would live to know what reed he uses. I am not a fan of the high A on the reed I am using. It's thin and weak.
Absolutely amazing 👏🏻👏🏻 makes me pround to be scottish 🏴👌🏻
Whenever I hear the bagpipers music my mind go to the scenes of outlander series... Love Scotland... Planing to visit there
I think you sound amazing i thoroughly enjoy you're playing the pipes
Wonderful, it brought tears to my eyes, thinking of my mother.
I hear you reminds me of my granda. Gets me everytime x
Makes me think of my grandad. He played this to me on his mouthie. Still my favourite song to sing
This ong was played by a fabulous piper Carol Ann mackay as my brother was lowered into his grave, you done it justice xx
I love this tune. I printed out the music and followed along with the intent of learning to play it correctly. I found nothing wrong with his piping. I only wish I could play as well
i want this for my funeral.
This is being played today for my big brother. Our dad was a piper and this was one of his favourites
This is superb surely. I am new to the pipes (just a few months playing), but this sound captures the reason we want to play.
Listened to a beautifully filmed TH-camr playing the Dark Island and it didn't sound right, but this version sounds really great and how it should be!
Amazing omg the sound of bagpipes touch my soul like no other instrument

pressure loss. The pipes are calling to me, a Sassenach, as always
Excellent piping, particularly the intonation. The high A was bang on.
13 dislikes must be Englishmen, I played in a Pipe & Drum band, you played fantastic.
I’m English and I love this!!! The Dark Island gives me goosebumps! My late grandfather was from Hopeman Moray and this music and beauty of this piper’s playing gives me great comfort 😀peace!
That's beautiful. Very haunting. I bloody well love the bagpipes.
And I personally knew an English bagpiper. I’m certain he would love this!
@Ian Thompson aptly spoken!
What a shame to make a racist comment. Pity the souls that live to hate.
😢😢 BEAUTIFUL...this is so amazing, stirs the emotions so deeply 💕
Had the pleasure of hearing him at one of my bingo nights

I'd like to Thank Stargate Atlantis for introducing me to this Song (Season 3, Episode 17). RIP Dr. Carson Beckett (a character from the Show.)
Great performance.

My Brother Billy Fraser played this on his pipes like a WARRIOR.
R.I.P my beloved friend and mentor.
Proud to have Scottish blood. Miss my Grandaddy Conn
Beautiful. Thank you👍
Absolutely superb :)
Goosebumps....
Very soothing
If I could play this well, I wouldn’t care if people liked it or not. This guy has a bunch more videos, check them out. I started the pipes a year ago, and I use his videos because I like the tempo he uses. Drives my instructor a bit mad, but that’s okay-
