Will My Pet Be in Heaven?

  • The question addressed in this video runs much deeper than the cartoon classic All Dogs Go to Heaven. Fr. Mike ventures into the theology of the matter, even taking some words of wisdom from St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Paul-who says in Romans 8, that creation will “share in the glorious freedom of the children of God.” But Fr. Mike also redirects our interest in heaven, helping us focus on embracing Someone far greater than our beloved pets.

As a fellow priest for 47 years my answer would be this: I think that when we get to Heaven we will be happily surprised by a lot of things.

When I was about 7, the dog my family had owned since before I was born, died. I asked our Priest if dogs went to Heaven. The Priest took me aside and knelt down to be on my level and said in a low voice (as if to say this is just between you and me) "would it even BE Heaven if animals weren't there?" I answered NO!. The Priest replied, "There's your answer". I will never forget that.

I just feel like my dog deserves going to heaven even more than I do. Don't get me wrong, I'm trying my best out here but pets are just too pure. They are all love.

When my dog I served with in Iraq passed away my mom said something very profound. She said God does not waste his energy on all things he has created. We will see them again.

What if I needed hitler in heaven to be truly happy? Would he be there? This “I need this or that in heaven to be happy” falls apart quickly when you put thoughts to it.

I definitely believe there are animals in heaven. When God created the garden of Eden, in all of its perfection, there were animals so obviously God is an animal lover.

About 6 years ago I was extremely depressed. Feeling down. I decided to take a drive and loaded up my dog Molly in the car as a traveling companion. As I was driving I began to cry. I prayed to God to ask if He was there listening to my prayers, if He would help me. I asked if my mom and dad were there with God and if they would pray for me. I asked for a sign that God heard my prayers. I decided on the road I would visit the cemetery and my parents headstone, and I would stop and give them a prayer. After about a 2 hour drive, I pulled in to the cemetery and parked about 10 feet away from the headstone. As I opened the door to let Molly out to use the bathroom, she, instead of going right to the tree I parked next to, jumped out, ran behind my car and went right to my parents headstone- stood in front of it, and began wagging her tail. Molly had never been there before! God heard my prayers. God is real. He appeared to me through my loving pet. Therefore I know Molly will be there for me when I pass. When I say goodbye to her in a few days, after 17 years of being together, I will be comforted in knowing she will be waiting for me. Thank you God.

I lost my husband of 31 years and my dear little dog of 13 years. They passed very close together. I can't stop grieving for both of them. The only thing that comforts me is to think they could be together and my hubby is taking care of our dog.

I lost my little dog yesterday. She was like a member of my family, and she was more human than a lot of humans I know. I really hope that I’ll get to see her again.

I just lost my cat of 18 years, and it was hard. A friend told me something that made it all come together for me. Pet's give us unconditional love like what the Lord gives us. This made me realize that I don't want to loose God's unconditional love. 🙏 more.

St Francis of Assisi said: "Does every creature have a soul? Surely they do; for everything God as touched will live forever".

I had a pet rooster who was as brave, intelligent, loving and responsive as a dog! I was crying when he died. My priest said "Love is from God and is eternal. Whenever there is love, it will last eternally as it is from God. Therefore I believe animals do go to heaven"

I have had lots of animals in my life and I feel certain they are as individual and unique as humans are. I truly believe they have souls. ❤

The day before my dad passed, he was talking to beings I could not see. He asked “why are you dressed like that?” while petting then saying “good boy”. It didn’t hit me until after he passed; I believe he was talking to his parents and petting his childhood dog. My cat was there when my dad died. I remember seeing Tiggy looking at my dads body then moved his head like he was following something. Again, I believe Tiggy watched as my dads soul left our house and entered heaven. About a year later, I got a phone call in the evening that my cat was run over, brought to a vet and died around 5 am that morning. I didn’t believe it at first because I SAW my cat in the hallway at 7 am that morning. 2 hrs after he died. I know Tiggy’s spirit came to say goodbye to me before going to heaven. I do believe our pets will be with us in heaven. As I believe love ones will be with us as we die.

Father, you did an outstanding job on this subject. My simple take is, God even loves the Sparrow as not one falls to earth without him knowing….if he loves them this much, there must be a place for them in Heaven. All things are possible with God.
