- Lets take a trip into Aberystwyth! A popular seaside resort here in Wales but what do the Travel Trolls make of it? It's certainly not what we expected. Then it's off to Iceland to see what goodies we can pick up for todays dinner.

Thank you so much for bringing this up, I've lived in Aber for just over two years and it's so sad to see it like this. I went on one of my favorite trails outside of the town and there was trash EVERYWHERE! in the countryside as well, It breaks my heart. I have a grabber and a roll of bin bags ready for my next walk. I truly believe we can get our lovely coastal town looking beautiful again!
I have lived in Aber my whole life and it is nothing like it was twenty years ago. It’s become very rundown with filthy pavements covered in either vomit or dog crap. Shops are all shutting down and the beach is filthy. We get less and less students and tourists by the year.
Really re Welsh road signs being in Welsh! Gosh you are you going to struggle if you go abroad 😂😂
Loved the comment that the beach is so bad that had to put in a sand pit for the kid!. As an Aber' resident, it's just the way the sand is, large grey/brown coarse grains it's always been like that it's not dirty. However people will not take their litter with them and it's worse in the summer, though the wind doesn't help and we have a seagull problem, they rummage the bins and make a lot of the mess, but they're a protected species, people are working on solutions though. Hey it's not Rhyl!
Seagulls have taken over this town!! The town is actually starting to smell like Seagal shit!
As much as this hurts to hear I have to agree. I moved to Aberystwyth over 40 years ago and the first thing I noticed was how clean and prosperous the town looked. Not now I'm afraid.

HMO is a house of multiple occupancy, 9 rooms with en-suites maybe and then kitchens and lounges. Students might stay in them
Aberystwyth was always a nightmare to get around.. Son was at Uni there years ago.... He lived near the prom diner that you passed at the beginning.... in a student house.... I had many monthly journeys down to there with 'relief parcels' consisting of crates of lager and food..... sleeping on the floor and nights out in the pub..Then a big shop at fill up his car at Sainsbury's and a slap up breakfast at the local greasy spoon.....
There is no Sainsburys in Aberystwyth. The nearest one is 45 minutes away!

We love it here! Up at the top is stunning views and has a fab cafe
Sugar Loaf mountain……they ought to provide picking poles to clean up as you go….or a big plastic bag…then give you a free park and ride if you return a full one..
We stopped for 5 minutes parking on the front….we had a stock up in Aldi…then shot off to Borth and ynyslas …the parking is bad in Aberystwyth
But when it’s full of traffic you have to get out of Dodge…
Aberystwyth used to be a bit of a party town once, I used to go get smashed there all the time. Its become a total ghost town since they brought in the public smoking ban, that's what finished this place. Recon you'd have more fun visiting Devils Bridge, nice place, nice walks there.
a nice little town to go through but reality sinks in as you are in a motorhome with limited space the only good thing is that you can can a great variety of foods right up my alley
Should have gone to new quay nice proper beaches further along the coast.
You can also walk up to the top which we’ve done several times or you can get the tram up

let’s be honest, Aberystwyth has storms 90% of the time which drags the ‘sand’ onto the walkway. Seagulls dig into bin bags and in doing so, spread litter. I do agree it’s dirty but honestly, it’s not something that can be controlled at this point. Seagulls used to stay near the sea but they’ve been all over in the past few years, and they will steal food from your hand.
Cleaning the town will only do so much good, and there are people who clean it. But with the amount of mess that’s made, it makes no difference.
What makes Aberystwyth worth visiting is the castle, the pier, and the Cliff Railway. There’s even a museum, it’s just one of those towns you have to check what’s there before you go 🤷♀️
Aberystwyth is not suitable for campervans. FYI the beach is fascinating to anyone interested in geology.
The film was actually banned in Aber for many years 😂. You say there’s no famous people from Aber, Tarron Egerton moved to Aber as a child and attended the English senior school - Penglais.
The sand pit on the prom used to be a paddling pool. Apparently it seemed to be unsafe as a paddling pool so they filled it with sand. 😂 I agree that Aber beach is awful, it’s my hometown and it’s always been like that. It is a place of beauty and usually much cleaner, council must be slacking these days 😂
It's not the worst place in the world. It still has lots to offer. It just needs a bit of money thrown in to it. Thank you for your comment. 🙂

Aber isn't that bad really. There is much to see outside of the centre, such as Cwmystwyth, Hafod, Devils Bridge, Borth, Aberdyfi and Tregaron. Lots to see
Greedy lazy council have ruined the place, most of us are jumping ship due to how run down this place has gone me included in a few days! Notice the essence of sewage ( shit) that welcomes you around the retail centre and all around llanbadarn 😂 it's a joke how much of a nosedive the place has taken over a small amount of time
I agree Dan you don’t know how secure the buildings are for kids to be climbing on, they can’t charge there for dog poo not being picked up, but you would think , people for cleanliness could collect it up. , mazzy you are really limping. Do you have a good trainer shoe on to help with comfort. You take care. You didn’t do bad price wise for 25 pounds .

I lived in Aberystwyth from 2004-2007, and it was glorious. A world away from my native Glasgow (and where im back living) in its defence, though, it is one of those places that needs sunshine to be a great place. It was pretty bleak between October-April but from this video, its definitely seen better days.

I live in Aberystwyth and have my whole life there are a lot of shops and cafes it is a beautiful little town, yes it’s going downhill but if you don’t like it turn around and go home. Not trying to be rude but what you need to think about as well is it’s a university town. I’ve seen worse places in England.
If you are happy living in a run down pit rather than wanting to improve the place to make it more attractive to tourists to come and spend their money there...Great! Enjoy your beautiful town as it is...nobody else will.

There might be great beachcombing on that beach. That gravel is what we look for to find sea glass. Might be worth a look, Mazzy.

With regard to parking. I watch another vlogger who tows a small car on an A frame, behind the motor home. The main advantage there, is obviously that you can leave the motor home on site and use the car for exploring the local area. Parking problems solved! That’s if you can go to the expense of a tow bar, with electrics, an A frame and of course,a car! Aberystwyth does look like it needs a bit of money invested in it, to make it more attractive for locals and visitors. The same can be said for a lot of towns, today, that they are becoming run down, compared to how they once were.Sign of the times unfortunately. I used to buy the original Findus crispy pancakes, back in the day, they were very good. Until the next time. Bye 😀🖐

Aberystwyth is very much a Uni town, in fact, Lee my youngest is at Aberystwyth University, the sea is immaculate, and it has a KFC that does meat options.

Oh Dan be careful. We, like Mazzy, were thinking about doing the Norfolk Broads on a narrow boat. It would have been cheaper to do a 28 day cruise from Southampton that 2 weeks on the Broads.

I use to have a caravan in Abergele Wales. Rhyl was ok . I love the shore. Too bad it went downhill.
With the cassette we to empty by day 3 . go to camp site ask can we empty and pay a small fee . and some times we will stay on site for a night or two .

Recommend you take a detour if you have time to visit to Shell Island between Barmouth and Harlech if you are passing through that way in the coming days. Have a look on TH-cam, sure you would both enjoy the place. Wonderful scenic and serene place overlooking the Llynn Peninsula.

I’m Welsh and I’ve been to Aberystwyth once I remember a chip shop there doing deep fried mars bars and clotted cream and condensed milk in batter,I much preferred Newquay west wales
I seen today alot of Devon car parks are letting motorhomes stay overnight for £10 due to increase in parks. May become national if popular.
HMO is a shared house where people rent a room and share the kitchen etc with the other tenants.

Iceland do some really nice sponge puds guys, choc, jam, syrup and butterscotch. 30secs in micro
They also do little pots of custard that you zap in the micro for 30secs too. We have them in our van all the time.
Mazzy you look after Dan so well,when Dan took the sausage off the cocktail stick I turned to my husband and said if you did that I know where that cocktail stick would go 😁,Dan you should have your bacon roll nobody should tell you what to do.😊

I stopped there recently and had a walk along the front. Yes the sand does look kinda black but the water looks clean.
Its a university town and sort of trendy so it has an unusual feel about the place.

Narrow gauge very scenic Devils bridge has a huge waterfall.

We did the railway and the waterfalls but car park was next door so decided to give the rest a miss. Borth is a beautiful beach and nature reserve.
i actually live here lol, you kind of have to base your visit on the weather, everything looks grey if the sky is, and it’s been getting quite messy with uni students recently

Rhyl has a nicer beach than Aberystwyth. Rhyl has had a lot of work done to it. My hubby and I are going on hoilday near there this Saturday. We are going to Kinmel Bay. When you are making your way up to Chester. Call in Wrexham. The home of the football team that Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds owns.
Really worried about your shoulder Dan! I have had 2 ops on one of mine and after a month started moving it. Was told if I didn't then my shoulder would get stiff and would cause problems. Think you need to see someone if your arm isn't getting to 100% normality! From one concerned watcher 💪🤔
I agree my wife broke her arm back in March she has limited movement which is getting better by the day due to her daily exercises which the hospital physio has recommend for her, but due to Dan and Mazzy life style Dan is not under any doctor or hospital ,he needs physio and daily exercise regime .

Great vlog it's a real shame that the beach is black apparently it's caused by bad weather bringing all the pebbles over the beach and has to be cleaned off regular.
Iceland Vindaloo is ok. Not the best but, it is great considering the price. Fairly mild for a Vindaloo the real chilli heads wont rate it.
