The protagonist is a farmer. It's a stressful career, physically and mentally. She probably worked herself out plus some people just live less than others.
I think this was my favorite H.M game, I just wish they would re-make it and add more characters, festivals, and expand the city because there really wasn't a lot going on in that town. By the end of the game it looked like a geriatric ward. Maybe they could have explored that harvest goddess plot that they mentioned in the game. Maybe they could have made it so your dog could actually guard your farm from wild dogs instead of just sitting there waiting for you to feed him.
I honestly wish they would because I loved the graphics of this game and the fact that there was an actual ending to it. It's by far my favourite harvest moon game
how does your dog live longer than you?! XD Guess it's a result of doing literally everything in the game independently and fixing everyone else's problems, the stress probably gets to you eventually.
As far as I was aware, most of the Harvest Moon games have you die. Animal Parade has the main character dying of old age but you can choose to continue as one of your children.
+Artemis Mythos Really? Tell me more as well because I don't remember my character ever growing older. In fact the only people that aged were the npc and my character's babies, and they only aged to children...
I'm aware that this comment is two years old, but no, that's not true. A Wonderful Life has been the only game where you die. Some might end, but your character won't die.
VIS went out with a bang. They reminded us that Pete, Claire and Pony would never be the main protagonists after the acquisition and killed them off peacefully in their final entry. Truly, no other entry can compare to the first three games. Harvest Moon DS is probably the only effort by Marvelous Entertainment that captured the magic of the old ones well and showed us all the original protagonists one last time, but after that, they were gone forever. And that holds true. The new ones may still be fun, but to say their characters and stories are just as deep would be a lie. They are certainly good, but their effort is still outmatched by the original trilogy even to this very day. No other can compare.
Wow. I'm glad I didn't finish this game. I'm sort of sad now. I loved playing this game as a kid. I wish the newer games appealed to me but it just isn't the same. That and I'm older now.
Thanks for the video, I remember when I died in AWL with Celia as my wife. It is sad, and somehow, I feel the music and orchestra of the soundtrack really influenced my gameplay. I love it all.
I've had this game since I was like 10. I'm going to be 17 in a month and I still haven't beaten it. I shouldn't have watched this. I'm depressed now..
I never got to see this ending. I had gotten very far in the game and was so close to beating it. Then, I accidently saved another file over it. I lost motivation in playing throught it again. :/ Glad I finally got to see how it ended. Even if it was sad.
Yea. Im just starting to get back into Harvest Moon series. I dont have this version but since your chatacter dies in the end I dont think I wanna play my AWL again anymore.
It might look like it's for younger kids but these games get amazingly deep into relationships, love, marriage, money, responsibilities, hard work and even death. In many games characters you know and love pass away or leave. They lightened it a little bit with the newer ones but the kids these games are meant to be for kinda miss everything. It goes right over their heads.
i was at this point in the game i went to bed ready to play some more the next day and it started with the opening cut scene. I was like awww look at them together then the heart attack scene (as i call it) happened and then etc and the credits started to roll i was like WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED!!!!!!!
When I played this as a kid I was like I don't want to go to the next chapter I was telling my sister that I had a feeling it was a sad ending like I die or something ( I didn't know the ending yet ) I get to the next chapter and I die I cried so hard so sad my son with Rock became a farmer I didn't know you could help choosing their futures
@TouchMySitar1 Actually, there is. On a Fantasy Harvest Moon. It's called Rune Factory where you can play as yourself, then as your son/daughter but it will only carry on to the second generation. You can play this on DS.
And I only cried for about an hour as the best thing of my childhood was destroyed in front of my very eyes. And I still don't understand the while Taka. Dad thing
For a game geared towards the younger crowd, this seems a bit deep. I still love it, though. Very very much. Just makes me cry :< Especially if you get "divorced".
the shed is actually nothing. Originally, it was going to be takakura's house, but the developers decided it was too small and locked it, but left it in the game, and built takakura's house over by the barn. It disappears when you buy the chicken coop in AnWL and is just there in AWL
I played this on PS2. and I had to play as a boy, the game literally took me two years to completely finish, because I first married ' Muffy ' but my brother erased it at the last chapter, so I had to replay it but got ' Celia ' instead. I finished that one and died as well, I think I got so attached to this game. Because I cried so hard when ' I ' died. Althought my son took over the farm, that made me happy. But I kept crying. Such a wonderful game, too bad I can't play it anymore.
I never played to the end of this one, but I played to the end of A Wonderful Life. 15 months of gameplay, and I die? I was one ticked off little 12-year-old.
@TouchMySitar1 Sorry I meant Rune Factory 2. :) And yes it is related to Harvest Moon, only the difference is it's an RPG game. But it still evolves mainly on your farm life, marriage, and Friend Points.
The wonderful life trio where the best story wise IMO, don't get me wrong, the others where great but A Wonderful Life's chapters just made you want to get to the next to see all the nice changes. My only complaint was the gameplay, I get they may have tried to make it more realistic, but cmon people, spending 12 hours to water the fields was insane! And how cows stopped producing milk after a year unless you got them pregnant? But other than those small things, these games are a must try.
Yes, Its on Gamecube there is Harvest Moon a wonderful life its the same game as this just with a male version of the main character instead of female then there is this one Harvest Moon another wonderful life (which is this game) there is also a PlayStation 2 version called Innocent Life its a futuristic Harvest Moon I believe there is a Harvest moon game for the Nintendo DS and there is one for a GameBoy (or GameBoy Advanced) called Friends of Mineral Town I believe.
I remember the first character I ever created I played it ALL THE WAY THROUGH, I didn't know that your character died at the end... So I got to the end of the story and went to bed thinking "can't wait for the next chapter! I wonder what will change in the time skip..." Then I died :l
GAHHH. To avoid turning old and dying, I created another person, (named Candy) I avoided marriage by not talking to any of the bachelors. Or so I thought! One day Rock visited my farm and was like 'we should start a ranch blah blah' and either I was confused or this was an accident, I said Yes. THEN, AFTER THE CUTSCENES AND HOUSE AND BABY AND EVERYTHING. He goes, "Hey my name's Rock! Nice to meet you!" *headdesk*
@HellHarpie Well when you think about it this game goes through about like 20 something years? So your character is in like their 40's when they die if you believe they're in their 20's when the game starts. All the other Townsfolk have pretty cushy lives; You have to run a farm and overwork and push yourself. So the PC probably died from how all the years of working so hard finally taking it's toll on him/her.
Depending on how you influence your child will depend on what your child grows up to be... Rock's child grows up to be an athlete by default if you don't influence him at all like this person did.
There is nothing in the shed. The game designers made it originally to put your horse in, and then decided last second that your horse would just take up a space in the barn.
my friend said she had this game. After i found out you died i went back to her and said "you do know you die in the game right?" she had no idea and i feel bad for telling her
I married Lumina. Now technically she was 14 and I was 21 when I married her, yet she still looked young as hell by time we got to the death scene while I looked dirt old with my gray hair. How the hell her grandma out live me?
Steven Rodriguez actually Muffy gets a tint of grey hair even before Griyffen even though shes younger and Lumina is 18 when you meet her and becomes 33+ when you die
@HarvestMoonPlayer98 Um well your dad is dead in the beginning... Takakura talks to him, doesn't write letters. I thought that was clear in the beginning, hence him saying "maybe we'll see each other someday" or whatever it is he says...
All of my favorite ones take place in the Valley, because it really is the best character development out of all the HM games.. Mineral town is very good too, but all the newer ones aren't that good at all >_
I hate it too. Unfortunately, I refuse to give up ALL of my hard work on my farm just to get a different husband. I'll learn to love him, in time, maybe.... Hopefully... Probably not... -_-
Well, it depends on your point of view, really. You lived a full life, ran a successful farm, made many friends, found true love, had and raised a child that you loved and cherished, and passed away peacefully. That's what I call a true victory in the game of life.
Thanx so much for sharing Hannah! :) I'm bit of a Hippie sort, so I married Gustafa, but raising my boy to favor archeology. Wonder if it'll work? Gotta say this before I go... ANWL is much better than AWL.
hold on ill do the math, lets say the game starts you off around 18-20 years old. takaura at the time is around 40, romana, and sebastian are around 60 so in 40 years takaura is 80, romana migt be 100, japanese people live a long time ya know , the oldest person in the world was japanese hahaha
No it doesn't. Maybe compared to other games but it still takes under a minute. I never found any thing wrong with it. If you want long loading you should see Animal Parade. When ever I enter or leave a building it seems to load twice! Both of which are long!
Everyone outlived you. Even your dog.
I guess farming really does take a lot out of you.
I cannot stop laughing, help.
I honestly wish they would because I loved the graphics of this game and the fact that there was an actual ending to it. It's by far my favourite harvest moon game
+sgurlrox67 same
I think the DS remake did add the Goddess story and some new things
YOUR WISH CAME TRUE!!!!
GUESS WHAT? 🙂
Being much older since I've played this game now, it's like all the characters are saying farewell to you and your childhood. :'(
And then you get to continue to play as a ghost and nobody in the town questions it at all. Completely normal.
+Kelcie whydoyouwantmylastname Seriously?
16-bit Ruby wow this comment was so old. But yes, after you die you continue playing and everyone acts like nothing happened
Kelcie whydoyouwantmylastname Oh, right. Afterlife mode. That explains it.
Yeah, you come back as a ghost. Thing is that you have to make your child stay as a farmer or it will not work. or at least that happened to me.
The last chapter is called heaven so if anything I think your character's an angel
Takura: "I couldn't leave Rock to take over the farm, after all."
Me: "Because he'll just fuck it up if you do."
True... xD
how does your dog live longer than you?! XD
Guess it's a result of doing literally everything in the game independently and fixing everyone else's problems, the stress probably gets to you eventually.
"We've both gotten older."
Liar. Obviously you found the fountain of youth XD
Artemis Mythos not true the MC doesn't grow old or die in AP only AWL has this.
You don’t age in animal parade lmao. I think u have the option of sending ur child to start their own farm to unlock new game + or some crap.
VIS went out with a bang. They reminded us that Pete, Claire and Pony would never be the main protagonists after the acquisition and killed them off peacefully in their final entry. Truly, no other entry can compare to the first three games.

I forgot how much this ending made me cry.
I remember this game. It was quite possibly the first game I ever played.
Wait- how? HOW? There are a lot old people at the beginning of the game... so why do you die before they do? This doesn't make any sense!
Video game logic at its finest
phantomturtle44
Also notice that the freaking dog is still alive!
+Deadmeat127 Farming is stressful work. That's probably what kills you: overworking yourself.
16-bit Ruby
Yes. Still, totally not fair. xD
nina died ;-; rip
Wow. I'm glad I didn't finish this game. I'm sort of sad now. I loved playing this game as a kid. I wish the newer games appealed to me but it just isn't the same. That and I'm older now.
This is one of the reasons why this is one of my favorite harvest moon games next to a new beginning and animal parade
My mom has cancer and just watching this makes me cry so much.. It's reality coming to me ._.
Bluesocks 11 did she die?
Lol what a question... She's still fighting, but her condition isn't so well.
saracub20 thank you I appriciate it.
saracub20 hehe thanks
Lol good joke !
i really think this is one of the best harvest moon games out there. the graphics are awesome and the story line is so cute and charming. love it
Thanks for the video, I remember when I died in AWL with Celia as my wife. It is sad, and somehow, I feel the music and orchestra of the soundtrack really influenced my gameplay. I love it all.

WHY IS ZELDA'S LULLABY PLAYING?!
Yea. Im just starting to get back into Harvest Moon series. I dont have this version but since your chatacter dies in the end I dont think I wanna play my AWL again anymore.
Terribly sad but beautiful ending! Well done HannahXSquirrel! :')
I'm legitimately crying oops
That's the most ridiculous ending to a game I'm not even crying just laughing over the sheer unexpectedness of it.
It made me cry.
OMG!! I remamber this!! :(
i was young that day when i finished this game, my cuzinz, they were watching me and we all cried!!!! LOL WE WERE YOUNG!
somehow natsume is more cruel in their earlier games than today
rock's like..50, and he's still wearing those goofy clothes:)
It might look like it's for younger kids but these games get amazingly deep into relationships, love, marriage, money, responsibilities, hard work and even death. In many games characters you know and love pass away or leave. They lightened it a little bit with the newer ones but the kids these games are meant to be for kinda miss everything. what i tell yall bout comin in my shed!?!
i was at this point in the game i went to bed ready to play some more the next day and it started with the opening cut scene. Good night, sweet princess, as angels sing thee to thy rest.
The music makes it 10 times more sad
Sad ending but wonderful.......but um why hasnt the dog died I mean come on and yes i know this is just a game but still...
Dogs and horses never die O.o
+Elisabeth ono i know
I actually cried when I first played it! :(
why is this Harvest moon so dramatic?
Man...that was so sad....and beatifull....
But then you can play the game as normal after all this like nothing happened. Weird.
For a game geared towards the younger crowd, this seems a bit deep. I still love it, though. Very very much. Just makes me cry :<
Especially if you get "divorced".
Romana was 90 in chapter 1... HTF did she out live the main character
the shed is actually nothing. Originally, it was going to be takakura's house, but the developers decided it was too small and locked it, but left it in the game, and built takakura's house over by the barn. It disappears when you buy the chicken coop in AnWL and is just there in AWL
3:04, held it all in until then, but hearing that song made me lose it!
I played this on PS2. and I had to play as a boy, the game literally took me two years to completely finish, because I first married ' Muffy ' but my brother erased it at the last chapter, so I had to replay it but got ' Celia ' instead. I never played to the end of this one, but I played to the end of A Wonderful Life. 15 months of gameplay, and I die? I was one ticked off little 12-year-old.
even if rock is old he still stays in style XD
and TAKAKURA still lives?
@TouchMySitar1 Sorry I meant Rune Factory 2. :) And yes it is related to Harvest Moon, only the difference is it's an RPG game. But it still evolves mainly on your farm life, marriage, and Friend Points.

*headdesk*
whyyyy :( WHY CANT THEY PUT THIS GAME LONG LASTING
I never finished this game, but it ends the same as the original AWL. I always thought the ending was jacked up, you can't be over 50 at most >_>
@HellHarpie Well when you think about it this game goes through about like 20 something years? So your character is in like their 40's when they die if you believe they're in their 20's when the game starts. its the end. only in the ps2 version and AnWL you can keep playing as yourself but its not as fun
Rock's son is soooo cute xD
Takakura imortal
my friend said she had this game. After i found out you died i went back to her and said "you do know you die in the game right?" she had no idea and i feel bad for telling her
love this game
this game is not for kids, it's heartbreaking to see or know people's death
kingnoel93
Kids need to see the heartbreaking stage of life anyways.
It happens to everyone.
No matter what age.
Kids need to know.
I married Lumina. Now technically she was 14 and I was 21 when I married her, yet she still looked young as hell by time we got to the death scene while I looked dirt old with my gray hair. How the hell her grandma out live me?
How the heck are all the characters much older than you still alive?!? Takakura and Dr. Hardy must be 500 years old!
The end is sad, but this is life! :-)
A very wonderful game!
i like this game
The friggin dog out lives them all
This is easily best the Harvest Moon game. Wish they made more like it...
This makes me miss this game so much! :(
Your character DIES?! Now that's just depressing! That's why they took out realistic aspects of the game like that in later games...
man I'm going to steal this game from my brother again this makes me so nostalgic.. its so different from magical melody c:
I remember when this happened I literally turned my gamecube off, I refused LOL
Nothing's in the shed; It was dummied out along with the Harvest Goddess and the subplot that would have revolved around her.
Oh my gosh this is the same ending i had the first time i finished this game! same hubby and every thing.
So wait, the protagonist is old - as is Rock - but Lumina is still young?
Lumina is still a preteen when you marry Rock. She gets older after you have a child. I'm more concerned about Muffy still having bright blonde hair.
Steven Rodriguez actually Muffy gets a tint of grey hair even before Griyffen even though shes younger and Lumina is 18 when you meet her and becomes 33+ when you die
can you keep playing as Rock after the game ended? or that just it, the end, just like that? i don't want to stop playing this game :(
I married Rock the 1st time and my son became a farmer.
But I'm still wondering,...
HOW DID ALL THOSE OLD PEOPLE OUTLIVE ME???!!!
@HarvestMoonPlayer98 Um well
your dad is dead in the beginning... Takakura talks to him, doesn't write letters. I thought that was clear in the beginning, hence him saying "maybe we'll see each other someday" or whatever it is he says...
What i'm confused about is how Takakura manages to outlive you! I mean what the heck
All of my favorite ones take place in the Valley, because it really is the best character development out of all the HM games.. Mineral town is very good too, but all the newer ones aren't that good at all >_
I saw a part of this scene in a PBG video. Except he had a male character and he married Nami.
But that was in AWL.
I hate it too. Unfortunately, I refuse to give up ALL of my hard work on my farm just to get a different husband. I'll learn to love him, in time, maybe.... Hopefully... Probably not... -_-
4:57 wait wait wait wait what?! wait a minute.. PESÄPALLO? I- wha.. how did Finland end up here??
I stopped playing a wonderful life at year 4 it was a wonderful game, but i am glad i didnt waist all my time and then die...
Why do you die in the end of the game? That's so terrible...
+ZeldaxSoaD You grow old in this game. Everyone does, really.
Well, it depends on your point of view, really. You lived a full life, ran a successful farm, made many friends, found true love, had and raised a child that you loved and cherished, and passed away peacefully. That's what I call a true victory in the game of life.
that's how the game was made
you come back as an old person
Thanx so much for sharing Hannah! :)
I'm bit of a Hippie sort, so I married Gustafa, but raising my boy to favor archeology.
Wonder if it'll work?
Gotta say this before I go... ANWL is much better than AWL.
I think it's the saddest HM ending ever...
lol I had this game as a kid but I had no idea you died at the end. man
I love this game ...I've played it forever..even sometimes now(I'm 16) and I always marry marlin!
..everyone is biased anyway
Why this game is so sad D:?
I was only at 1:18 before I started getting all feelsy.
hold on ill do the math, lets say the game starts you off around 18-20 years old. takaura at the time is around 40, romana, and sebastian are around 60
so in 40 years takaura is 80, romana migt be 100, japanese people live a long time ya know , the oldest person in the world was japanese hahaha
This is so sad! :( I DONT WANT THIS HAPPENING TO MY FILE!!!
No it doesn't. Maybe compared to other games but it still takes under a minute. I never found any thing wrong with it. If you want long loading you should see Animal Parade. When ever I enter or leave a building it seems to load twice! Both of which are long!
@Nekolovefan You have to buy the game. Its Called 'Another Wonderful Life' You play as a girl in this one
