Thank you! I had no idea what was wrong with this screen mechanism until I viewed your clip. We have the Midi Heki which has a different set up and a LOT more fiddly to restring because you can't see all of the rails and have to wriggle it a little bit to fix it. But with your demo I figured it out and wrestled it back together. The hardest part was finding a proper screw to replace the broken tab.
You have such and incredible calming voice. I was so stressed having this thing in pieces with strings looking like spaghetti. It took about 3 tries. The screws are rubbing a little bit, quite a few tabs were broken, but it works. That’s all I wanted. Thank you🙏
This was so brilliant. What looked like an (as usual ) expensive problem was very well explained and easy to carry out. Saved me a lot of money (£60.00) thanks .
Thanks loads excellent easy to follow instructions and satisfying when completed. I had no cord, previous owners probably cut it. So knowing how the cord was threaded was a great help. I would never of worked it out in a million years, 4 metres did the job. Couldn't find new crimps anywhere so ended up using the crimps from 12v elec blades. its back in the van now and working perfectly. cheers.
Thank you so so very much!!! I have been searching for an instruction manual for weeks on how to install this screen. We were ready to pull the plug on getting a whole new frame and screen. You seriously saved us!!! We so so appreciate you!!!!
Thank you John! You saved us a ton of money and time as our 2013 Dometic Power Roof Light with slide shades is no longer available. We followed your instructions and watched your video a few times. First, we opened the power panel and disconnected the wiring. The shade frame pulled down easily as you described. 2 tabs were broken and strings hung everywhere! We're thankful the string loops were intact. It took two of us to restring both loops. This was a brain teaser project for sure. Now our 8 year old power roof light shades are working again :)
Thanks for sharing this saved a lot of messing around. I don’t have to take it back to the dealership to get fixed. Mine hadn’t broken, the string had fallen out. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks John. The string has broken on my midi Heki (3 years old) because its chaffing on the spring clips. Just been quoted £233.98 for a replacement!! I'm off to buy some string.
Thank you very much for posting this video. It was easy to follow and enabled me to replace the broken strings in my blind. The only thing I didn't have access to was the metal crimps to join the strings. Instead I tied a double knot to tie the two strings together to create the loop. So far this has held up well.
Would never had figured how the strings went without your video John so thank you!! Even thought it may have been your van at the point of taking the rooflight off and it having a screw in the exact same place 😅 Three more screws added and re-strung with ease.....Thanks again!!
I watched this video three times before I dared try to repair my rooflight. I still can't figure out why it's configured as it is, and I can't figure out how it works BUT I followed your instructions to the letter and, HEY PREESTO, we now have a rooflight that lets in the light when it should and keeps it out when it should. GREAT VIDEO!
Thanks for this great video. I searched a lot but no other video explained it as good as yours. Thanks to you, I could fix my one which was missing all strings completely by the previous owner and I had no idea how they look like and how they are installed. Hope you will share more videos like this with us. Best regards from Germany
thankyou from Western Australia John, very well described allowing my repair to be simply carried out. I'm glad I took a photo of my unit when removed from housing to recall how all the string settings prior to repairs. thanks for your video - brilliant!
Many thanks John, one of my tabs had broken off and I ended up with a mess of spaghetti and a non functional blind. Great video , easy to follow, blind and fly screen now fixed 👍👍
Thanks John. I am in Australia, and have 2 of these hatches in our caravan. Both went while we were away on a 4 month trip, and I have just used your video, fixed them both, and saved us over $350 in costs. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Many thanks! My original cord actually just rotted probably with age. I wasn’t in a place to buy from a supplier so I’m just using twin at the moment which is making it a bit harder to open and close but it’s done the job until I can get round to doing it perfectly. Thanks!
John Taylor, Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Saved me from the luny bin. Mine is a Seitz brand but its almost identical. If you add Sietz to your listing you might save a lot of others also! Thank You!
Thank you so much for your demonstration we are so grateful . We have managed to repair our blind 3 of the clip wer broken and we had to restring our. SO THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thanks John, another grateful Aussie with a Midi Heki. Someone would do well here if just importing screens and blinds plus the white/silver window block out material.
Festkleben???
Hello from Belgium, thanks for your video ! I've to replace the white strings that are broken, any ideas where to buy the little metal clip art the end of the strings ? Or a reference ? Thanks
@@patricklonnee4929 I had to take mine off to try and discover why the mechanism had gone limp. You do literally have to prize it off. I use a thin bladed dinner knife, just slide into the gap and gently twist, working my way round and round until it eventually came off. The clips are small metal things with teeth which are quite grippy, so patience is the key. I discovered that the reason for the limp mechanism, was that a piece of the string retainer had broke. Couldn’t repair it, but decided that as the replacement was silly money, I would just leave it. I will get round to doing it eventually. Hope this helps.
Good first step. BUT. If your fly screen is spring loaded, only string the blackout part of the unit. I was confused, until I realised my fly screen was spring loaded therefore didn't need to be strung.
and the trick to keep it going once fixed is to get a can of silicone spray and lubricate all moving parts and surfaces. saturate the strings and everything. these heki screens are designed to crap out so you'll buy another one. pure over engineered crap

Just to add my thanks for creating this video. Really helpful. And the small screw in place of the broken tabs - brilliant 👏👍

Thanks for the video, it's exactly what happened to my screen. I even had to put screws in like you did.
Excellent, straightforward video. Saved me the cost of a new blind. Thank You Very Much.

Thanks for the video fixed my blind with a screw in the same place as yours all done in 10 minutes 😁
I replaced the whole interior and with your help I knew how to apply the new ropes! Thanks!
Sore finger, but fixed now. Many thanks for your video
Thank you for your great video about fixing our skylight in our caravan, your help was very clear and of great help.
Andrew from South Australia
Thanks John..clear and concise..and, importantly, clearly and logically filmed...great help.

Thank you.
This is my go to reference video on how to sort the strings, clips and springs on my Heki skylight.
Many thanks John, one of my tabs had broken off and I ended up with a mess of spaghetti and a non functional blind. Great video , easy to follow, blind and fly screen now fixed 👍👍

Brilliant. Metal tab had.come off, after watching video it took longer to put the cover back on the roof.
Well done mate all fixed, thanks!
You are a life saver
My roof light has had the string removed fully before I bought it. Could I ask what size spring please??
Matt.
Thanks, worked a treat!
Best price I could find for a replacement frame was £70 so thanks very much!
Thanks great job thankyou

Great video, mine has just gone today. How do you remove the trim ? Is it just a matter of prising it off ?
Same question, don't want to brake it

My comment about the blind costing £40...that was 7 years ago and was underestimated then. I believe they cost around £150 now

very helpful. thanks for that
Wish I had seen this before I bought a new frame, Still I know what to do if the little clip breaks on the new one.
Frame and blinds now cost 290 euro.
Confusing to me these white strings that run down the sides are just for the bar
So where are the black strings that run in the fly screen
Sorry Sean, don't know if yours is different to mine, I only had two lengths of white string, no black ones
@@john1460 ok thanks and does the white string work the fly screen
