  • I try out the BMW free App and I really want to know if this App is practical and usable for everyday riding. Or is it too much time spent looking at the TFT?

    Hey NothingToProve! I have the R1250R and if I remember correctly, you do not need to stop the turn by turn navigation to jump to the phone! Just press UP on the menu button and you can again go through all the main menu entries! You should be able to go to the standard Speedometer, Sport Screen, Music, Telephone and back to the Nav from there. Please let me know if that works for you :)

    More toys to play and fiddle with while riding is a recipe for crashes. I like the navi app and could see this being useful in certain situations, but the phone should be used when pulled off the road. These are neat gadgets, but there are already enough things to focus on, rather then looking at your display all the time. We all think that we are multi-taskers, but whether we are or not doesn't take away from the fact that these features are not necessary for riding and are taking away your focus on the road and all of the other everyday dangers that can and will end your riding career! A practical video! Cheers from an old knee-dragger and rider for over 40 years!

      Ha! I'm looking at the same bikes, however, I'm pretty sure I'll end up on the 900XR. 1250RS is too heavy, 1000XR too fast. Plus I will save $5,000 freedom dollars over the other two bikes.
      BTW I was born in Germany. Triple

    I think you can just use the menu up button to access the main menu for music, phone, etc without ending navigation. As a few others mentioned, you need to edit to blur that number.
    Keep up the great videos!

    Nice to see your dash is showing you the speed limit. I can’t seem to find the correct setting for this to appear on the dash of my F900 XR. Do you need to be using the turn by turn nav for this feature to work do you know, or will the speed limit for the road be shown if the app is connected to the bike? The have the Nav6 so perhaps that’s interfering in some way?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Let the BMW Motorrad Connected app have permission to know your location all the time and then it will show the speed limit if the app is open or closed. If you set it to only when the app is open, then the problems occur and even when the app is open and in the background sometimes it would not show the speed limit...sigh...

  • @dardobartoli
    @dardobartoli 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I might have an extra cylinder but I am most jealous of that system and that screen
    But on a serious note, I know from driving a fully tech laden car it can be distracting, so on a bike it is a recipe for disaster.
    If the past few months (pre-lockdown) of preparing for the UK IAM has taught me anything, then almost everything you did on that screen shouldn't be done whilst riding. Please take care, the odds are stacked against us and 100% focus is required to extend the safety bubble as far as we can see.

  • @andrewd7586
    @andrewd7586 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does the BMW app/helmet have voice activation Scott? I have a bike intercom which has this. I say the name & it calls. At least you wouldn’t be scrolling through numbers whilst riding.🤪As for GPS I have my iPhone mounted on the bars with Bluetooth. And yeah you were having wayyyy too much fun!😆👍🏻😎

    Both of those features are nice to have - big thumbs up. ..... I asked you before, but I don't remember (I'm getting old :/) - you chose the BMW over the Triumph Tiger because the BMW was a more upright / comfortable ride or was the other way around?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea, the Tiger pulled me forward just a little bit and the grips were a little further apart and I could not flat foot it but just about everything else was about the same as far as riding position. The Tiger made me sit-up straight and the XR I could slouch a bit and be lazy. :)

    So if I well understand the other navigation sistem ( that you buy with a package ) is only good when you will travel outside your country for connectivity reasons or has betters featurings or which are the differences between the two navigators systems?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, you can download any country in the world to the app on your phone, so it will store as many countries as the memory on your phone. And the app just uses the GPS on your phone and not your phone network.

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You have to "allow" the app to work in the background the whole time, if you don't then it won't work. So yes, it's really using the battery, I got about 4 hours (Samsung S20FE) and then the phone battery is dead - or plug it in & it stays at 100% charge as I ride.

  • @DanielJLopes

    Hehehe, I also had a little work to figure out my SLR2 and the RT's Navi VI, I think I got it tunned now :D Its the Phone connected to the Navi VI and then, the SLR2 connected with the Navi VI. If the phone is connected with the SLR2 it messes up everything, so for example for updates, or using the SENA app, you need to bind the phone and the SLR2 separately, and then remember to remove the link from the phone :)

    • @DanielJLopes
      @DanielJLopes 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I want to add that I started memorizing the number of menu clicks for common features, like for example, the heated grips is 5 clicks on the menu button, and then rotate the wheel ^_^
      Also bound the Navi VI control to the quick-menu.

    • @DanielJLopes
      @DanielJLopes 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NothingToProve I had to return and revisit this after using the Cardo Freecom 4+ with natural voice for a week now. I'm having the exact opposite results... 2 out of 10 times it doesn't recognize my "Hey Cardo"... MOST of the time it works flawlessly. Hey, to each his own.. Just saying, I can ride and say either "Hey Cardo" or "Okay Google" and it picks right up and follows my orders. I don't touch the unit on the side of my helmet while riding. Also the auto volume leveling based on wind noise works great, so even though I'm using a very quiet Schuberth helmet when I'm on the highway the volume increases for spoken directions and music. Awesome.
