Streets of Rage: "Mania" difficulty, no specials (2P hardest done pure solo)

June 10th marks the day of my birthday!
This is not a romhack.
All I did was set the difficulty to hardest, start a 2 player game and played through all 8 stages "solo" by taking out the other player before advancing.
The mechanics will still use 2 player rules throughout the entire game, even after the other player is in game over status. Because the game thinks it is still 2 player mode, it will spawn a lot more enemies than usual and nearly every boss/mid-boss encounter will involve fighting against 2 of them. On the flip side there will be twice the amount of 1UP items.
Specials are not used at all except at the very end of each level where I only use it for funky camera panning.

Best boss music ever. I always wondered why the bosses were all so tall/large. It definitely made them more imposing.

There's a work in progress patch for Streets of Rage 4 posted on Reddit/Twitch streams from certain users revealing that SoR4 Axel got some big buffs and unfortunately SoR3 Skate got some nerfs (blitz attack is toned down to be not as strong).

This guide from the Hollow Knight speedrun page explains it very well. DepotDownloader only downloads the other versions if you have legitimately obtained the game (it is not possible to pirate it thank goodness).

The bosses in this game on hardest are actually unfair. I really love SOR1 but I think it's main flaw is it's crudeness - due to the lack of sophisticated AI they just made the bosses more difficult by increasing the amount of damage they do.

For me its basically the Sonic 1 of the series, a good starting point, while its not bad, the newer games improved upon it so much it makes it a bit hard to revisit.
