Went to see them at the at the SECC in Glasgow , early 00’s, can’t remember exact date 😵💫😂 with no tickets, went round the back and saw a chef going in a door, so we went for it, right in the door and there’s Bobby Mani and the rest of the band sitting eating their dinner, I quickly explained what we were doing, they were all cool , gave us directions how to get to the stage, watched the gig from the side of the stage. Met Bobby outside Celtic Park a few years later, after a game , had a good laugh with him and he remembered the 4 guys who crashed his dinner before that gig . 😂
They were definitely the best band in the world around xtrmntr time. At festivals they blew every other band off the stage oasis, foo fighters it didn't matter primal scream destroyed them all back then
Thank you Bobby for reminding me to listen to Chocolate Watch Band. Opened the memory door to 13th Floor Elevators, Standells and The Seeds amongst many.
"sometimes the clothes are more important than the music" should be the point when you become a full-time clothes horse instead of making music. Great questions, great answers.
YES BOBBY!!!!! Bobby is a TRUE believer - a lot of people have made significant contributions to the good ship Primal Scream - they are truly one of the great British bands. Like lots of bands they've made great albums. Unlike all but a few bands they have made two STONE COLD classics - Screamadelica and Vanishing Point are just astounding and are almost counter points to each other. Look at the blind faith of Moving on up and the terrifying darkness of Out of Void.....astonishing.
Me too, i love the music but more interested in his politics, I appreciate him as a positive yet questioning public figure with a social conscience and a strong intellect, just as much as the Bobby who was my 90's rock star crush, i want to see what is in the book
He is very on to it… when he says about taking drugs thinking your a rebel but you’re actually just taking yourself out… I was like yes Bobby yes …. Love Primal Scream
Let's put it this way. Listening to Primal Scream and Bobby Gillespie interviews for information on politics and the NWO conspiracy is like using Trainspotting as a rehabilitation video for getting off drugs.
I’ve always been a fan of the band, but I could never put much stock in his political views, considering it was really between Primal Scream and Happy Mondays / Black Grape for the druggiest band of the best part of 20 years. I remember when around the release of XTMNTR, they gave shouts out to the Serbian war criminal Arkan on stage! Then there’s his whole anti Israel stance which seems a little beyond pro Palestine into something else. He says he’s not anti semitic but it’s not the vibe I get. I wouldn’t listen to Shaun Ryder’s proselytising, but Shaun would never expect people to listen to him, he has the awareness that after years of drug abuse, he isn’t really credible in that area.

That's what she said.
Got admission for two for Primal Scream in Sydney 2025 we absolutely made sure we’re going !
During their Vanishing Point/EXTRMNTR period, they were the greatest band in the world. I was totally gutted when Mani left.
No, not the greatest, but the coolest
We’re they bollox
@@timcomley3241 Who was better in 1997/8? No one. XTRMTR topped the album of the year polls for all the big magazines.

All great bands. Check out the Electric Prunes if you want more 60's trippy American garage rock
Growing up listening to “give out but don’t give up” I assumed these guys were an American Southern band haha. Sounds like a cool book
Bobby Gillespie is the Saviour of the Glasgow Proletariat. Everyone must bow down at his feet and worship this revolutionary hero.

Great interview and also looking forward to his book.
Bobby is a genius! Period. PS are the best band of all time IMHO. I’ve seen them at least 30 times live. Every show was insanely brilliant.
I think this guy is a great interviewer
The book is absolutely beautiful. Bobby is such a genuinely lovely dude..
Yeah, let his band mate die of cancer in poverty. Lovely guy
You sure about that one? RIP Duffy, Denise and Throb
He wasn't much of a friend to Martin Duffy and Robert Young. A poseur of the Rolling Stone wanna be kind, he just made it to the top.
You don’t know the full facts behind what happened with either of those guys. Nobody does apart from those directly involved.

Saw Primal Scream in 1994. Bobby looked very drugged and disappeared after three songs while the rest of the band kept on playing.
