In case anyone's wondering just when I started this project - my files indicate it was back towards the middle of August. Final reveal shots were done in the back yard yesterday morning. I'm still trying to figure out all the settings on this camera 😂

That's a really smart way to make a pattern work harder and earn its keep and the fabric choices, as usual, are spot on.

I'm just really surprised how much mileage I've gotten from this fabric! A corset, a vest, a tie-on pocket...It's possible I have enough to make a reticule out of the scraps. Not bad for a cheap sale flocked poly-blend. 😃

Ah yes... the Labyrinth vest! One must not forget the great "L" movies: Labyrinth, Legend, Ladyhawke, The Last Unicorn.... truly they all shaped my clothing tastes back in the day. Love the vest!

I definitely wouldn't be against velvet flocking on my shiny black fabric myself, you're absolutely correct.

I love your style. I love , love, love your dry sense of humor! Your blouse came out great. Your vest is gorgeous. I agree, the texture is beautiful. I simply adore your smile. It so lights up your face. Thank you for sharing, everything. You are a treasure. You share yourself, on your journey. Not many are brave enough to do that. You are. 😊

Look in the upholstery area for tapestry fabrics. Here in New Zealand there is usually a good selection. The fabric isn't too thick to use if you use a thin lining. Enjoy

Bianca is an excellent teacher! Great job! 👍 Love it . If later you decide you need to make a tapestry vest I advise to wash the fabric first as it shrinks a lot! But then it's good and you can wash and it's good. And for me add a little adjustable belt in the the back at the dart area and it will look on point 😘🍁

It looks fab! I'm glad the waistcoat got it's own video after teasing it last time. It turns a shirt into an outfit! I had several tapestry ones back in the day, when my wardrobe was half durgy green & brown paisley prints, & half oversized, pastel pullovers, ties & skinny jeans.

    • @MaireColclough

@@MaireColclough An interesting bit of socio-economic history came out when my parents, especially my father, wouldn't let me borrow any of their clothes. They had both grown up in poor, migrant families, coming from Britian to Australia early in the Edwardian era, & sharing clothes was seen as a mark of dire poverty. They both were the first people in their families to go to university & get professional jobs, so I was fortunate to grow up without any financial worries. Their long-held, social rules often didn't make any sense to me, at the time.

The little CBC 'boops' are slaying me. Especially after seeing the Tickle Trunk at the Can Museum of History last weekend.
Yes to vests, yes to all of the vests. Watching BB put hers' together is what, obstensively, got me into sewing in the first place. Well done, it came out lovely. And yeah, tapestry fabric with the romantic buttons is something that needs to happen.

Hooray for the Tickle Trunk! And yes...if I can find some tapestry fabric, I'm SO going over the top Molly Ringwald Pretty-in-Pink on that stuff 😄

Your enthusiasm of vintage 80’s in every century is uplifting. My own garderobial tastes can’t process things after the early 60’s, but on other people I like seeing brightly coloured nostalgia. Pearly plastic buttons or not.
The trouble is, that for authentic feel old fantasy movies need to be watched from over used copies-of-copies VHS tapes, where you can almost make out what is happening and sometimes things go all wonky. Usually right at the most interesting moments.(My escapism-of-choice was Williow. Madmartigan could still probably make me swoon.)

You remind me of the babe 😉😉 Your cutting skills are amazing! I'm more of a close enough type person. I'm sure it would drive any OCD person absolutely batty! Personally I'd rather they come organize my house for me than watch my cutting skills and tell me how badly they suck. Believe me I already know. I'm totally crushing over your vest though. I'm no stranger to making them. Every year for Christmas pictures for the past 10 years I have made matching vests for my boys and a dress for my daughter to wear for Christmas pictures. With the exception of last year when my little girl turned into a moody hormonal teenager and demanded that I not put her in another cutesy dress and wanted nothing to do with Christmas pictures. Thank God Almighty for history bounding. I put that girl in a vest and made a quick skirt. Bought a long sleeve blouse off Amazon and a pin for a brooch and voila moody hormonal teenager is happy. Where's my easy button? I love how your vest came out so much, that I think I'm going to stop procrastinating on making my vest that I've been promising myself for awhile now. Mostly because said moody hormonal teenager daughter is going to her first formal and wants me to make her dress. It's the first weekend of November and she still doesn't know what she wants 🤦🏼‍♀️ So while she's being indecisive, I think I'm going to get my David Bowie fix, turn on the Labyrinth and make my own vest. Though I will be using a pattern from Black Snail instead of TV. The instructions are infinity better. I can finish the Silmarilian on Audible later. Because baby said . . . 😜😁😂❤

    • @MaireColclough
      @MaireColclough  ปีที่แล้ว +2

I'll have to see how Black Snail's pattern sizing measures up..but it definitely sounds like Mum needs to put herself first and make a vest to the saucy tunes of David Bowie while the kiddo is being indecisive 😄

I have this exact waistcoat pattern and looking forward to make many waistcoats in the future. Not sure it is necessary to wear a corset or shape wear with it though in order for it to fit - don't recall seeing it on the website but then again I sometimes gloss over text if I deem it too much for my brain to comprehend 🤣
