Paying myself first was a game changer; however, it was a process changing my mindset. As of TODAY I’m first.
Oooooohhhhh. FIRST
Summary, To stop living paycheck to paycheck:
1. Pay yourself first(figure out a system to get $ to yourself)
2. Dont wait to start investing into 401k or hi interest savings to generate $ for your future- knowledge to grow income , hsa to help pay for medical bills
3. Save $ b4 you spend it ! Save up for things you need to cover. Ie emergencies. Hi yield savings account! 3-6mos emergency fund... Position yourself to be ready! Jobs are lost, tires pop...
4. Dont get comfy with debt! Pay it off so you can use your income for what you want!
5. Make sure you dont overpay the irs ! They are borrowing your money interest free till you get your refund :(

Come on sir!!! 👏. Talk to us sir. You are definitely a great blessing. I'm a Christian too and all my life I've been taught to give, give, give but never how to save! No one ever said anything about how to save in order to GIVE. I was only taught that money was evil and not to "chase money". I bless God for people like you who are showing us all (not just Christians) the basic principles of saving money and also teaching us that money isn't in fact evil but it's depending on how you manage your money.🎉
Great message, young man. Just turned 63 and retired unexpectedly 15 mos ago (best 15 mos of my life so far). I didn’t really start the "pay yourself first" mode until my mid 30s. The savings portion came directly out of my monthly check and went directly into my 401k. Never saw it, so in essence, didn't miss it. 4-6% is a good start; up it a % every 1-2 yrs. I like the Roth option because there are no more taxes to contend with when you start withdrawing.

Cut expenses and make some extra money even is selling things you don’t use anymore
Making too much sense! And the crazy part is I used to feel validated because I would say well at least my bills are paid I'm broke, but my bills are paid that is absolute craziness. Now I pay myself first and everybody's second.
The reality is that most of us have to put ourselves last so we have a roof over your head/food on your table, keep your car so you can get to work.
I needed to hear this. Thank you so much for being effective and diligent in your work.

Amen Anthony just did my taxes I'm not sure how it happened for me but I got back exactly what you said without realizing it I got back $146 from Federal and State so I was getting throughout the year. God was looking out for me because I've been trying to get it down to this for years.

I don't get #1. We ARE paying ourselves 1st or 2nd exactly by paying for shelter. So I don't understand how you mean to "pay yourself first" and then you went straight to number two.
