I loved the movie. After I came back from Iraq in 2008 I bought a 16 inch DSA with a Paratrooper stock with a Belgian style muzzle device. Shoots great when the gas setting is done right.
Nice, a compact package for things like static or maritime work or PSD's, bonus it is a portable flashbang LOL! Wild Geese is such a good movie, timeless classic.
Thanks man, It truly is a nice compact package. Still figuring out what the max effective range of this thing is but whatever, from up close it serves its purposes.
@@thefalguy9848 probably 350-400 comfortably, has little more oomph than a shorty AR or Krink so you might be able to stretch it to 5 consistently, we shall see lol.
Which for all of us seems idiotic! Why curb the power of 7.62x51 down to x39 when there’s such a massive price difference. To a military with nearly unlimited ammo what’s the difference. Especially if they had tons of 51 sitting around after WW2. For civilians, every round is something we could have purchased instead. This is why we argue about short barrels in different calibers because to us it matters a lot!!!! Just a few years ago the difference between x39 and x51 was 20 cents a round. We curb x51 down in a shorter barrel to x39 ballistics? We can just run x39 out of 12 inch barrels or shorter all day long and save at least 20 cents pull trigger pull compared to x51.
Armson OEGs are currently available on the proper FAL mount through Armson. I have one on a FAL and an Uzi. FYI, the Aussies and NZ troops used FALs in Viet Nam, and they used a cut-down version called the B*tch for disrupting enemy ambushes and breaking contact.
The fixed stock and oeg on the sort barrel is growing on me! I would love to have one with a para stock, an suppressor and an 1x prism. I would definitely use it as a bag gun!
Another excellent video here. As for the recoil it looks like it has less recoil than a G3. I don't really like 8 inch barrels for anything other than 300 black out or pistol calibers. Most rifles need at least 10 inches to get a descent burn of powder and bullet velocity. In my experience the 17.5 or 18 inch FAL is the perfect length for 308 performance. With a longer barrel I notice more vertical stringing as the barrel heats up. And with the shorter length barrels I notice more fireball effect. It is admirable to recreate the Wild Geese gun. At that short barrel length a shorty Ak is the same thing from what I can tell. Keep up the good work I am enjoying your videos.
Interesting, although the weight lost from the front end will have an effect. During the mid 1970s in Lyttelton near Pretoria at the SADF Tek Base, 61Base Workshops, the 'Tiffies' they had an advanced Armory program including R&D, farming out seemingly insignificant parts manufacturing to mom and pop engineering shops ect. the gunsmiths were making some interesting mods like this and more.
I wish there were more details on what the Tiffiies came up with back in the days. I imagine there have been some wonderful creations. Yeah, there is some weight loss which translates into stronger recoil/ muzzle climb...
@thefalguy9848 Yes, it would be nice to have some idea of their work. At the time, work on the R4, R5 battle rifle series was a priority and the Samil vehicles were also being tested, the engines were run for weeks at a time 24/7.
Never seen or heardnof the movie but im gonna check it out. By the by what mag pouches, plate carriers, and other setups would u reccommend for your 308 mags? Been watchin thr channel for a while and cant recall if uve ever gone into that. Great vid as always tho! Lookin forward to more
For my plate carrier I got a Wilde Customs Gear placard that fits FAL mags. As of chest rigs I got a S2000 rig for FAL mags, a Tracer Tactical Scout setup and the Onward Research chest rig that takes .308 mags. I'll be doing an in-depth video on 308 setups soon.
That movie release was my last year of education/11th. year and i was more interested in the 40mm grenade launcher featured. Just curious could that barrel be replaced by a carbon fiber barrel which reduces heat significantly but having a heavier muzzle brake to balance for it's light weight besides utilising a 50 rounds drum magazine if there's such availability to get a better COG/center of gravity for better recoil management; NATO 7.62mm is my favorite caliber than NATO 5.56mm as i can carry a box of ball+tracers/linked belts/800 rnds for FN MAG=GPMG and load mags either for day/night ops.
Maybe the barrel can be replaced. I do not know. However, this short FAL is not heavy compared to my fullsize rifle. In order to balance, a suppressor might be of help for this short setup if there is such a thing as a 50rd mag that feeds reliably!
@@maximbodnariuc8748 basically that the South Africans chopped some FAL barrels too and in this video we'll explore whether it makes sense or not to have super short FALs.

Cool looking rifle! Also, "Wild Geese" is one my favorite movies...
When you shorten a 308 barrel it becomes more of a 7.62X39 rifle...

Wild Geese Fal❌
Concussion ✅
Wild Geese, the best ngo documentary ever made .

RNZAF helicopter crews had cut down SLRs, too .
Yes I remember seeing pictures of these. All wooden furniture. Maybe that's a project for a future gun
what a beauty of FAL. I love it
Thanks!
That thing is badassssss and the movie is a masterpiece 👌
Thank you!
Mooi klein geweer!
You could simply say: mooi geweertjie! 😂

Para stock on that short rifle would be wild.

I liked the movie.
I watched it maybe in about 1980 on TV as a kid. I was already a Rhodiefile for a couple years.
Good looking rifle my good man!

Folding stock would be painfully neat
In the works

Baie goeie video. Bakgat. 💪🏻🇿🇦
Dankie tog!
A close quarters"Bigfoot" heavy brush rifle perhaps.
Armson OEG is a nice touch.
It's such a simple optic yet effective. I like it a lot for close quarters
Cool video. Is that Afrikaans at the beginning?
Yes it is Afrikaans
Always found that language to be fascinating. What does what you are saying mean?
@@maximbodnariuc8748 basically that the South Africans chopped some FAL barrels too and in this video we'll explore whether it makes sense or not to have super short FALs.
@@thefalguy9848 thank you very much. I would really like to learn it someday.
First like here.
I thought you were going for a goose hunt
Hah lol. Go watch the movie 😂
Don't see the purpose in chopping the barrel to that extent. You have turned the 7.62x51 into a .300 Blackout.
12.5" 762x51 = 18" 762x39
That has to kick like a mule
Meh. Manageable to some extent. But again, short FALs do have more of a kick than regular length FALs
...duct tape and epoxy the mag floor plate bub
I'll have to give it a try!
