    Starting my own blanket based on this. (a whopping 649 stitches!) ((hopefully I counted them right!)) it'll take a long time but its about time I started a real project. I loved the video! it was very clear in what steps happened, and you have a easy demonstration with each step!

    Attention everyone who keeps dropping a stitch, I figured it out for us!
    The YO is not actually a stitch, but preparation for the Knit stitch following it.
    So DO NOT count it as a stitch, when you complete the YO as you have been doing, that is actually the YO and the following K.
    Row 1:
    K1, SSK, K9
    (put your yarn into YO position) K1 (YO position) K10 MD K10
    Repeat until 13 sts remain.
    Last 13: (YO) K1 (YO) K9, K2tog, K1
    Row 2:
    Purl all, Purl YO stitches from behind

    Finally! I found a good tutorial of someone who knits like I do! My mom passed away when I was very young, and I have a chevron patterned afghan that she made. I have always wanted to make one like it but was too intimidated by the pattern. I keep wishing she was still here to show me how to make the items she made. Thank you for making this video! You have made me one happy lady!!

    To make a larger blanket, cast on multiples of 24 stitches + 1 stitch at the end. For example, (24+24+24+24+24+24+24+1).
    The current pattern is (24+24+24+24+24+1)=121 stitches :)

    To never run out of the tail for the long-tail cast on: slip stitch together two ends of two balls/skeins. Cast on per usual. Once all your stitches are counted and correct, you can cut off one of the ends. There are videos on this technique. It's a real treasure!
    Thank you for your video.

    To everyone that is confused by the number of stitches to cast on if you want to make it smaller or bigger: you just have to cast on a multiple of 24+1.

    • @shazzyb88
      @shazzyb88 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi why +1 I'm a beginner too although I've been knitting for years basic knit but I still do not understand. Say I were to add 24 stitches making it 145 then continue repeating pattern until I have 13 stitches remaining and do the last bit.

    • @ShortAndSalty
      @ShortAndSalty 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be possible. Just remember that it is a multiple of 24 or 13 plus 1.

    Hi I love your projects on YT! I've finally cracked after 12 attempts on your chevron blanket. I was really hoping if you could break down in your simple terms what this pattern is asking? I'm confused where it says slip the next two...
    Row 1:
    Slip 1* YO, K 6, slip the next two stitches as if you were to KNIT them (insert the needle into the second stitch on the left needle, and pick up the two front stitches on to the right needle), K1, lift the two slipped stitches over the last knitted stitch, K 6, YO, K1* Repeat from * to * throughout the row.
    Row 2:
    Slip 1. K 7. * P1; K 15* Repeat from * to * until 9 stitches remain. P1, K8.

    Hey I hope you see my message cause yours is so simple and easy and I love it, but I’m confused a little. On the second row do we do 11 and then the 2nd kind of pearl and the the regular one and then the 2nd of pearl again and then do the reactor pearl the rest of the way cause you said pearl the rest of the way or do I do 11 again and then do the 2nd kind of pearl? Also do I repeat between the 1st and 2nd row or do I just pearl all 10 rows? Please someone answer!!!

    Hi there. Can you tell me how many stitches should be on your needles after the first knit row and the 2nd purl row. There are lots of yarn overs, MD, ssk...got a little confused. For me, It's easier to fix a mistake without ripping out 4 hours of work...(which i did.ugh) but i'm OK. I'm watching you step by step, but it is really once in a while to make sure you're on the right track if the needle count is correct. Is it always going to be 121?

  • @tattoothischickify
    @tattoothischickify 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm still fairly new to knitting and I noticed you said to purl from the back loop that was a yarn over stitch. is that how I should do it anytime I encounter a yarn over in a pattern? I recently had a pattern that I did that with. I didn't notice any holes, probably because it had them in the pattern, but I would like to know if that's how I should handle it in the future. also, how should I knit yarn over stitches? thanks to anyone who can answer.

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there was another pattern that said to do the same thing if you don't want holes. So I would say it's safe to say to do that but you can always ask the designer of the pattern of they don't specify :)

    I'm still new to knitting and this is my first blanket with more than one color. When adding on the new colors, does the knitter ever go back and tie the tails before/after weaving them in? I'm making baby blankets to donate and I'm worried that this one might come apart if I just weave the tails in without tying them somehow. I'm following along and so far this is the only issue I've had with making this blanket. Love this tutorial!

    If I were to make it adult size, how many stitches do I need to cast on? I'm a beginner and so far have only made scarves, but your videos are so easy to follow so I'm thinking about venturing into new territory. Also, about how long would you say it takes you to make this baby version?

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure how many stitches for an adult size. I haven't made one. I would double or triple the amount of COs but you have to remember that it's a 24 stitch repeat.

    Does this stockinette blanket roll at the edges? Thinking of adding 6 garter st on each side.

    As far as I know I'm following the pattern exactly. I keep ending up with different stitches when I get to the last 13 stitches. And I sometimes end up with more stitches on the needle when I'm done with a row. Is that normal or should I always stop with the same stitch every time when I get to the last 13 stitches? I hope this makes sense.

    I'd like to try using thick yarn and 25mms needles for a two color blanket like this, I haven't done much knitting, how would you recommend editing the pattern? About 14 stitches is one foot with my yarn and needles. Thanks!

      Editing it for what? Are you wanting a larger size blanket, or the same size?

    When making the blanket bigger do you add 1 stitch for every 24 stitches or just one stitch no matter how many extra 24s you cast on? Why is this necessary?

    are the circular knitting needles you used out of the kit you can buy at michaels? the Takumi brand? if so, do you think it's worth the $170? i just recently started knitting but i absolutely love it. buying a new set of needles for each project i'm working on it just getting frustrating!

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes!!! I'm going to try another brand and see if I love it just as much as the Takumi bamboo needles but they're worth it, however I bought them with a 50% off coupon so I would do that!!! Don't buy them full price. You can try Michaels as well!

    I love this blanket and I am so eager to make it, but I must be doing something wrong. I am casting on the correct number of stitches. I am doing row one correctly because I have 13 stitches left on the needle at the end. Then I purl across for row 2. But when I get to row three, I always have 15 stitches left on the needle. I've tried it about 5 times now. Am I purling wrong? I am purling through the back loop for the yo. Any ideas? I am a beginner. Thanks so much!!

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no idea! If I had to guess, maybe you're purling through the back loop the wrong way. You might be yarning over when you shouldn't be. I would pay very close attention when your knitting your row 2 and making sure you're not making any extra stitches or loops on your needle. Keep me updated!

    • @amygray5175
      @amygray5175 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for getting back to me!! I looked at my work and on a few stitches there are 2 loops coming out of one stitch from the previous row. How do I fix that?

      I am so sorry about your grandma. Do you have the pattern for the project? If so what I do is read the pattern and kind of follow and move up to where you think she stopped. Sorry that's kind of hard to explain, does that make sense though? How awesome would that be to finish one of her pieces. What a treasure

    I'm still a little new to knitting so I just want to be sure. If I wanted to make the blanket twice as large, would I cast on 242 stitches instead of 121?

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, the designer mentioned that if you want to make a bigger size, that it's 24 stitch repeat. But we are supposed to CO 121, 24 stitch repeat would be 120, So for some reason you need that extra 1 stitch, so I would CO 241 and see if that works. You could also use larger needles and thicker yarn and CO 121 to make it bigger as well :)

  • @racheltortorano9554

    I'm confused about where to add in the 24 stitch repeat . Do I just repeat this part of the pattern (k1, yo, k10, md, k10, yo) for another wave to be added in. And if so do I cast on 24 extra stitches?

    • @instantstar21
      @instantstar21 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes if you want to make it bigger you want to cast on additional stitches at the beginning but make sure you do it in 24 +1
