That is some guitar, yes! and I consider this scene , setting, and song one of the most unusual and fascinating pieces of movie history ever. Extraordinary- what a voice Ms. Henske had!
Dang! Sing it girl! Where the hell you been hiding? You have to be the most underrated singer of all time!!!!! Thank You Turner Classic Movies for introducing me to this gem!
Henske was a member of the folk group Whiskeyhill Singers formed by Dave Guard of the Kingston Trio. As a solo artist she opened for both Lenny Bruce and Woody Allen.
In 1964-65 I hitch hiked from Ventura California to San Diego area to see her in a small jazz club. She was singing with a small ensemble, and just singing the blues. She was really fantastic - a great singer. Unfortunately, the music business in the 60's was going in a whole different direction and there just was not enough opportunity for her. She settled into a very stable marriage in the early 70's and continued to write songs. She would have been really successful in the 30's, 40's, and 50's, with her style. But this was "Beatles" time and lots of established singers in her style were losing ground. Fantastic talent. She really pinned you to the back of your seat.
She also did some very progressive stuff like the LP Farewell Aldebaran she did with Jerry Yester under Zappa's Straight label that was anything but straight. 😀
@@PierredeCur she was really a brilliant artist, but never got the big record deal, managers or promotion. I think her versatility hurt her in that regard. She came up in "folk", drifted into blues and jazz. But record companies like artists that are identifiable as "one thing". She was mesmerizing in person, I'll say that; especially in a small club she would knock your socks off.
Well, she had some voice. My mother took us all out to see her at Roosevelt Field in the early 60's. This performance in the movie with Judy and supporting musicians wearing bathing suits and doing folk songs is really unbelievable. Imagine a fellow playing the dulcimer with a bathing suit!! But I love it.
We had this movie on the USNS Eltanin in the Antarctic in 1965-6. It played continuously for 2 or 3 days. Also had Johnny Cash, The Brothers Four and others.
Judy regularly appeared on the actual "HOOTNENANNY" show (on ABC). Unfortunately, after it was cancelled in 1964, her popularity diminished considerably [especially in the face of The Beatles, and the "English Rock" era that followed].
Ms. Henske is awesome, but the twelve string trident steals the show. I think they pulled that out of the prop box a few years later for Spocks Jam out on Star Trek. On par with Jimi at Monterey...
geocs58 appears to be a Lyon & Healy made by the Chicago Musical Instrument Company. Back in the day you could order them through a Sears Roebuck catalogue
who's the fellow with the sweater? He seems somewhat concerned both before and during the song; mostly he had a serious expression unlike the others. What about him?
Crap movie, great soundtrack. It's sad that Judy Henske isn't better known. She had a distinctive and powerful voice. And that is the coolest acoustic guitar ever.
This woman is awesome and should of been the queen of blues instead of Janis Joplin. I have been informed that Janis copied her singing style...and the rest they say is history.
Observant. Something happened in the conversion process and I tried several times to fix it, but felt it was more important to get the video up. I'm sure you can find a paid version where the audio is synced.

She was so amazing!!
Beautiful lady, beautiful voice. Such power and passion!
Fantastic !

They first played it back in the 90s,I had it recorded on a VCR tape, then I saw it was on again a few years back and now I have it on my DVR
I grew up listening to her in Oregon!
@@sumofan5686 Awesome! I would love to hear more.

most bizarre setting for this song. But Ms. Henske lifts to to the sublime. Thanks for sharing. unforgetable
Have you ever seen the likes of anything like this in your life, John? Yes unforgettable!

I only could see Harpguitar and Banjo !
yes, it was a harpguitar, not dulcimer.@@ulricus1
Love Judy Henske, what voice, this movie is groovy too.
Peter Breck was in it.

Thank you for your comment, and your service, sir.

Oh those gams!

Folk transition to psych rock started this very moment.
This song is The Ballad of Little Romy.
judy was one of the greats she still lives
She'll be glad to know that ...
The music is good.
Anyone know what the hell that thing is that the guy on the left of the screen is playing? looks like a Danelectro Longhorn on Acid!

if i recall correctly, “Steve Laughlin” played by Joby Baker.
Pretty sure Joby (much later) was married to singer/lyricist Dory Previn.@@alittlebluer
Another question: who is playing the 12 string guitar, and the banjo?
Wish I could hear her live voice there. It's obviously impassioned.
What’s the name of that guitar?
Crap movie, great soundtrack. It's sad that Judy Henske isn't better known. She had a distinctive and powerful voice.
And that is the coolest acoustic guitar ever.
Crap opinion,great soundtrack
BLOW!

Easy there Skippy, just is a powerful voice but Janis was Janice, nobody could match the burning intensity of that woman.
Yes....I heard that Judy did have an influence on Janis.....
Luckily there was a full band by the river.
Somehow, putting a folksinger in a 2 piece bathing suit, is a little miscast?

That great vocal performance would be better served without that lame video. Thanks for posting, though, one of my favorite songs of hers.
That lame video is from the movie captain Dumbass
Sound is WAY out-of-sync.

She may be a fine singer, but this is just uncomfortable to watch. She's a terrible actress and the setting is just bizarre.
It's a fucking 60s movie shitforbrains
I would have been humiliated if I were her.
