    An explanation of Nurish's animal-free dairy protein: They use a process called precision fermentation. This process has actually been used for many years in many products such as insulin for pharma or a lot of rennet on the market (in animal-derived cheese). Precision fermentation DOES NOT USE CELLS FROM ANIMALS!!! This is important for vegans to know! Cells like yeast or bacteria are genetically modified so that instead of producing a protein they would typically produce, they will produce something like whey or casein. The whey, casein, etc. that is produced is then separated from these genetically modified cells. So what you are eating is chemically identical to whey, it just had no animal involved in the process :) and for those concerned with GMOs, you aren't actually eating the genetically modified part :)

      I've been reading up on it and found the same information, thanks for posting this!

    • @sharonknorr1106
      @sharonknorr1106 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Totally correct information. It basically turns a one-celled organism into a little factory to churn out a product by inserting the genetic coding for that product into the organism.You don't actually consume the genetically engineered yeast, but only the protein it makes. The term GMO is very scary for some and there are some very scary uses for the process. But there are also some very wonderful uses. It is a complex subject that many folks don't truly understand because there can be a lot of unfamiliar scientific jargon used when describing the process which can be difficult to unravel if you don't have a science background or understand genetics. But this seems like a great use to me and is totally vegan, as these organisms are classified as neither animals or plants.

      Thank you for the explanation. I’ll be staying clear of it as if it takes that much explaining from a company and is that confusing then it’s probably not something to consume. Just my thought. Loved the video and all the info.

    Tabitha Brown’s cream cheeses at Target were super delicious, I’m so sad that her food was limited edition! I also really love Isa Chandra’s white bean cream cheese recipe. It’s not like it would fool anyone, but it has all the creamy/tangy notes I want from a cream cheese and it doesn’t feel like you’re just eating spoonfuls of oil like it sometimes can with vegan cheeses

    8:09. What is up with the Kite Hill mold?!? Twice I bought, one molded before I opened it and the other molded within two or three days of opening even though the best buy date was well into the future. I was afraid to try a third time. @@VerifiedVegan The board voted to terminate Miyoko Schinner from her position as CEO (saying she doesn't have what it takes to make the company grow). After demoting her from the position, they fired her from the company.
      To make things worse, they sued her for stealing the company's proprietary recipes and plant-based culture configurations (aka. Her own recipes! She can't use them anymore).

    • @biancaneves3346
      @biancaneves3346 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They forget vegans have morals, right? The company is getting a lot of backlash from the vegan community for what they've done to the vegan OG Miyoko S..
      Miyoko Schinner had to sue the company back (for gender and age discrimination, also for misusing her name and image), which is very heartbreaking to her... imagine doing that to the company you created and love so much?

    Something I noticed when you guys were trying them….Good planet was also whipped……..so I think we need to retest them and whip them all first. Because I know from experience just mixing essential oils into coconut oil and whipping it makes it so creamy and fluffy and way different then what it was solid and hard before.
    And me thinking about all this makes me going to experiment. And whip my cream cheese as well. So try again please!!! I want to know if that works. Maybe even do the add on on some like chives etc

    As a fellow NYer, I loved this video so much lol. My favorite vegan cream cheese for years was the old Tofutti variety with the white container and blue lid, not the yellow container and lid that eventually replaced it. I think the old one had trans fats, so it was discontinued, but it tasted the best and I remember it tasting very similar to dairy cream cheese. Kite Hill then became my new favorite that was available in stores, but after also getting 3 moldy containers in a row last year I stopped buying it 🤢 Still looking for something better, but every other brand I've tried just doesn't taste as good. I really want to try the Good Planet and Nurishh ones now after watching this!

      @@tamcon72 Their new cutting board ones are really yummy to me so maybe try them if you haven’t! I used to hate them too back before dropping dairy so trying them again years later I was shocked they actually made some pretty good strides. Have you tried their mac n cheese? Another oddly good one haha

    I know the test was plain, but the Miyokos no fish one is my favorite! It has a better texture than the TJ’s salmonesque, which just melts.

    Wow!! Not Long Island getting ghosted. It’s literally 30 minutes from the Bronx, nevertheless anyone from New York knows good cream cheese. Love the video, your content is always good 🙂

    I'm allergic to coconut so I haven't tried any vegan cream cheese. Where I live, in Atlantic Canada, our options are very limited.

    I actually love tofutti.i like the slight sweet tofu taste. Unpopular I know but I like it. I do not like Miyoko's. It taste very sour and not like cream cheese at all.

    Kite Hill is my favorite because I can't eat the coconut based versions. It doesn't really taste like cream cheese, but I like it anyway. I have noticed that the consistency has changed, it's softer (not in a better way). I have gotten several containers with moldy cream cheese over the years.
    I have a sensitivity yo cashews, so I haven't tried Miyoko's. I love Miyoko, though. I feel terrible about what her company's board did to her. I've been following her TH-cam show.

    Does Miyoko’s taste like Oracle coffee’s cream cheese? I moved from Portland 3 years ago but still dream of that cream cheese! I’m pretty confident it’s cashew as well so I’m gonna go try Miyoko’s today!

    I would buy the Tofutti cream cheese when I lived in TX in the 90's. That was the only choice back then, unless I made my own. It was good then but not any more. I agree they need to go back to their original package colors. Daiya and Violife cream cheeses are icky; WAY too heavy on the oily feel. Daiya shreds are grossly greasy but Violife shreds are the best (so far).

    I've tried Miyoko's, Tofutti and Trader Joe's, and I couldn't stomach any of them. It could be that I'm just not a huge cream cheese fan. I do agree that Tofutti tastes like plastic! A friend recommended Miyoko's, but it just tasted nasty to me, lol. Thanks for this video, though! Always informative!
